A gripping and outstanding new novel. One occasionally comes across a book that changes one’s perspective of the world. Revolution is such a book. This powerful novel follows Andi Alpers, a grief-stricken teenager who has lost her younger brother to a madman. She is perpetually suicidal. Her parents are no help: her father left them after the incident, and all the mother does is paint pictures of her son. The only way Andi copes is through her music. When Andi’s father realizes the state of their home, he decides to send his ex-wife to a mental hospital and forces Andi to accompany him to France. At first she is angry and hurt, but when she finds a diary of a teenager much like herself during the French Revolution, and gets more involved in the plight of the young prince, Louis-Charles, she starts to recuperate. She even finds love in this unlikely place. The section in the middle did stretch my credulity, but it was worth it. This book is compelling and heartbreaking. I would advise you to go out and read it right now!
