Jen (jenniferjuniper) | 8 comments I'm looking for adventure book suggestions. I love to read Indiana Jones style adventures. I've read most of the Clive Cussler books and I'm looking for something like them. Does anybody know of any?
Jen

Jessica (jessicabaccus) | 2 comments If you like Clive Cussler, you'll really like James Rollins and Steve Berry. Vince Flynn is another one that is somewhat in this vein, but he tends to be more on the political side. Fantastic reads all.

Laurin (scylla) | 2 comments Amazon by James Rollins is a good one to get started with. That was my first James Rollins book and now I'm hooked!

message 4: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenniferjuniper) | 8 comments Thanks. I'll definitely have to check them out.

message 5: by Douglas L. (new)

Douglas L. | 4 comments If you like Vince Flynn you will also like Joseph Finder. Finder's books tend to be more about business hi jinx versus military ones, but they are good reads. I would start with Killer Instinct.

Rob | 4 comments Hi to everybody in the group. I'm Rob Turner of Glendale, CA.
Another author worth mentioning is James Byron Huggins. He writes very exciting adventure novels sometimes with a healthy dose of mysticism or science fiction thrown in. The latest novel I've read was Sorcerer, about a retired detective, Michael Thorn, who discovers a skeleton in their retirement house. Unknown to him, the skeleton used to be a sorcerer who was serving the Egyptian pharaoh, when Moses was trying to bring the Israelites out of Egypt. The skeleton was chained and entombed in the basement of the house, but it managed to come to life and get free. Now, Michael must battle a nearly immortal being with magical powers. To his aid comes a secret society of warrior-priests. I don't consider it the best from James Byron Huggins, but still very good reading.

message 7: by Betty (new)

Betty (nightreader) Sounds fascinating, Rob, what a combination!

message 8: by Mike (new)

Mike Rob,

Thanks for the detailed description! I'm going to track down some James Byron Huggins books.

Jen (jenniferjuniper) | 8 comments Thank you all for your help. I can't wait to try out one of these authors.

Jen (jenniferjuniper) | 8 comments For anyone else looking for these kind of books, Matthew Reilly is another good author (at least what I can tell so far). ":)

message 11: by Stan (new)

Stan Tremblay (stantremblay) | 13 comments Yes, Matthew Reilly is an amazing author (Contest is my fav by him). I actually work for a publishing company (hence the namesake), and all we publish at this time are thrilleresque novels. Now, they vary in genre (sci-fi, action/adventure, military, political, etc), but it seems like most of what people are talking about in this post are a/a & political/military titles.

I cannot recommend enough Jeremy Robinson! He's got the pace of a Reilly, but the story of a Rollins. He has also been endorsed by Rollins (since his first self-published novel many years ago), Berry, Alten, and Pavlou (to name a few). Antarktos Rising was an amazing story (probably my most favorite book to date) and his first release through us. He labels it as Indiana Jones with monsters. Kronos just came out less than a month ago and is a deep sea thriller along the lines of Alten ("James Bond meets Moby Dick thriller, with a twist" per Alten). He is definitely becoming a driving force in the industry. If you want to check him out, he is a Goodreads author.

If you have any questions or thoughts, feel free to contact me! I would love to be a part of a discussion on him/his books if you all decide to have one.

Thanks!

Rob | 4 comments Hi Variance. Thanks for letting us know about Jeremy Robinson. I just looked up some of his books and they sound like my type of stories. I've read Alten's previous novels about Meg and he seems to be repeating himself so I have just about given up on him. Have you read any of James Byron Huggins' novels?

message 13: by Stan (new)

Stan Tremblay (stantremblay) | 13 comments You're very welcome. As far as MEG goes, I don't want to give it away, but there are some excellent scenes towards the end that certainly make you think that these 'crypto'creatures still could exist! Give him one more try... he may have the same themes, but I really think this is a great book from what I've had the luxury of reading.

I have not read any of Huggins, but would be interested in hearing what your favorite book is and maybe I'll have the opportunity to check it out!

message 14: by Betty (new)

Betty (nightreader) I just added Antarktos Rising to my wish list. Thanks for the comments.

Barbara ★ Hi everyone, I'm Barbara from New Jersey. New to the group. Jeremy Robinson sounds like my kind of author. I love Matt Reilly and James Rollins both so I'll give JR a try. Both books sounds excellent. Thanks for the recommendation.

Betty (nightreader) Hi Barbara, welcome to the group!

message 18: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Thanks. I'm hoping to get some great book ideas as I've been kinda stuck on paranormal romance (which I love) but looking for something a little different to break up the vampires. :)

Stan Tremblay (stantremblay) | 13 comments Oh, by the way, is anyone here into Military Thrillers? You know, Tom Clancy, etc? If so, I highly recommend AJ Tata's Sudden Threat. Brad Thor labeled him as the new Tom Clancy... what a compliment! Tata is an active duty brigadier general, so he knows what he is talking about. Has anyone read it yet? If so, what'd you think?

Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child have a great series about Agent Pendergast. Start with Relic. Ludlum's Covert One series is pretty good also. The first one is The Hades Factor. I haven't had a chance to read either Brad Thor or Daniel Silva even though I own several of there book (So many books, So little time). But I thing other members would agree that they are similar to Steve Berry and Cussler.

I wish you many hours of good reading!

Barbara ★ I just picked up Blood and Ice by Robert Masello. Haven't started it yet so I can't tell you if it's any good but the reviews are terrific and it sounds a lot like a Matt Reilly or James Rollins book.

After a great tragedy in his life, journalist Michael Wilde hopes a month long assignment on the South Pole will give him a new lease on life. On a routine dive he finds a young man and woman, bound with chains and sealed forever in a block of ice. Besides them is a chest filled with a strange and sinsiter cargo. Wilde must unravel the mystery of this doomed couple.

3/31 - Just finished Blood and Ice and it was terrific. Definitely akin to a Matt Reilly adventure with a little paranormal twist. Good stuff.

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) I read Vigil and Bestiary. They were both quite good.

1/20 UPDATE: I haven't read either of these books but I bought them both so someday.

Depending on your interpretation of Military Thrillers, you might try "The Grave Breach" by James Macomber: As the story unfolds the reader is introduced to atrocities performed over a span from WWII to the present, centering in particular around Bosnia. Full review posted on my profile.

Stan Tremblay (stantremblay) | 13 comments Hey everyone!

I realize that this isn't an Undeniable and Undiscovered Thriller subject, but I told my author that I'd try getting his message out as much as I could. As many of you are authors/writers, I know that you will appreciate what Steven Savile has to say in his Storytellersunplugged.com posting. You can reach it through our blog: http://variancepublishing.blogspot.co...

To those of you who didn't appreciate this post, I apologize for taking up your time. I do hope though that you take the time to go read it - real life sometimes hits hard.

Take care all.

Rob | 4 comments Just finished reading The Orpheus Deception, the second in the Micah Dalton series by David Stone. Somewhat of a letdown after the The Echelon Vendetta. Hopefully the third one coming out this month, The Venetian Judgment, can restore the series on track.

Betty (nightreader) I just finished a debut thriller by Jamie Freveletti, "Running from the Devil" which should be out in May 2009. What I read was a proof for the paperback, there is already a hardcopy version out. Review posted on my profile.

Stan Tremblay (stantremblay) | 13 comments 1975496 Hey everyone! Sorry I've been gone so long, things have been very busy here. I'm just checking to see if anyone read Steve Alten's newest, MEG: Hell's Aquarium? If so, I look forward to hearing what you have to say. If not, did you have any interest in it - with giant killer sharks, how can you go wrong? =)>.

Talk to you all soon.

Sean Ellis | 3 comments Greetings all. I have lately discovered a whole new crop of action-adventure writers, some from less well known publishing outlets and some that are bursting onto the mainstream. Too many to recount here, but a very good resource for getting exposure to these authors is the Megalith: Books the Rock blog. Check it out. http://megalithbooks.blogspot.com/

Barbara ★ Sean, that looks like a great site and a good reference tool. thanks for sharing.

Stan Tremblay (stantremblay) | 13 comments Hey folks,

To those of you who don't follow what is going on at Variance Publishing, SILVER, a thriller from #1 international bestseller, Steven Savile, has been released. So many good things have been said about the book from the industry - from authors like Douglas Preston, Steve Alten and Kevin J Anderson (labeling it a Combo of Indiana Jones, The Da Vinci Code, and The Omen!) along with review sites like horrordrive-in.com and authormagazine.org - it would be a shame to pass on this book! As always, the author would be more than happy to join in on a discussion/q&a if you would want to host.

For all the info, visit our blog, http://variancepublishing.blogspot.com, and our website, http://www.variancepublishing.com/books/silver-by-steven-savile.html.

Thanks for your continued support.

message 41: by Tina (new)

Tina Hi Everyone! I am so glad I found this group. The authors mentioned here are some of my absolute favorites.

I read Crichton (was very sad to hear of his passing), Rollins, Berry, Preston & Child mostly. I read one by Vince Flynn, but I don't go in for political intrigue much. I tried to read Temple by Matt Reilly but about 20 pages in I found the plot too ridiculous to continue. Does anyone have a better suggestion for a re-do? I've gotten a number of new authors to try from these posts, so I'm excited!

I'm currently reading The Atlantis Code by Charles Brokaw. It's pretty good so far.

Has anyone read anything by Jack Du Brul, the Phillip Mercer series or others?

message 42: by Sean (new)

Sean Ellis | 3 comments The Jack DuBrul books are very good if you like early Clive Cussler. Lot's of action, very hero driven. Andy McDermott's new series (two books) bring the action of the Matt Reilly books, but without being quite so over the top. I really did like Jeremy Robinson's Pulse(first in a series) and Thomas Greanias' Atlantis trilogy.

And there's me of course...I've got a couple short stories you can download from my website if you want to test drive. The Devil You Know features the hero of my novel The Shroud of Heaven http://seanellisthrillers.webs.com

message 43: by John (new)

John Stipa | 9 comments Hi Jen, have you given Douglas Preston a try? I read The Codex and was creeped out by his description of the jungle, but it's the father-son dynamic that will suck you in. Hope you like it.

But if Indiana Jones is your style, my No Greater Sacrifice might appeal to your desire for an adventure with a romance at the core. I know that sounds so shameless, but if you like it, what the heck?

message 44: by John (new)

Dallas,

Sorry that you couldn't get into our Myspace friends, I'll look you up momentarily. I wish there weren't so many people trying to do bogus things on there, it is such a great way to get new readership and I was getting unnecessary stuff so many times per day. I have been made aware of your works, and though I'm not a part of the submissions team, I wish you the very best of luck in getting at least one of your books in our line up!

I will spread your word to the authors here and hopefully we get some people joining in to add some great content to your already popular group.

Thanks so much for your suggestion, talk to you in the future.

Rick Chesler (rick_chesler) | 1 comments Aloha Dallas and "Undeniable and Undiscovered Thrillers" members! This looks like a great group (judging by the titles being bandied about and the posts I've read so far) and so I'm happy to be a member.

I'm also an author myself, and my debut thriller WIRED KINGDOM will be released this May 25 from Variance Publishing / Deviation Books. It's about a whale tagged with a web-cam that broadcasts a murder at sea. Those who might be interested can follow this link:

http://variancepublishing.com/books/w...

...or even find me on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/WiredKingdomN...

Looking forward to discussing all kinds of thrillers.

P.S. For those of you into techno-thrillers, I'm about 3/4 into Suarez' DAEMON right now and loving it. Intense! (Please no spoilers from those of you already into #2 in the Daemon series!).

Hi Jen,
I'm new to goodreads and this is my very first post so bear with me:) If you're looking for an adventure/mystery novel with a female protagonist, my own novel, A SMALL FORTUNE has just come out and I've posted the first chapter under my account. You can read reviews of the book on the amazon kindle book page where the book is available to download, or you can purchase an early copy through my eStore with amazon here: https://www.createspace.com/3438754. The book will be available everywhere else within the next few weeks. I don't mean to self-promote. You just seemed to be looking for the very book I wrote so I couldn't resist. In the meantime, I'd love to hear about any new books you come across and recommend in this genre.
