Avatar the Last Airbender Debate discussion

It is said that before the avatar they didn't bend the elements, but instead the energy within themselves, so is this where the bending came from? I mean, yes, originally someone learned the bending from the bisons, the dragons, the badger moles... the moon (which i think originally had an animal, that went extinct...) But their children didn't... did they teach their kids, or was it through genetics? Is it something that the spirits did to you?

I'm pretty sure genetics and spirits because they chose certain people for certain bendings.

Yes, but if it was spirits and genetics, than Sokka should be a bender...

My beleifs are as followed.... I beleive that before the avatar everyone was a bender, but a bender of energy, so they could basically bend all the elements, and energy. so there are five elements.
then everyone started using their energy bending to master a certain element and then teach their kids to master that element, and then there were specific benders, but because the fifth element: Energy, was just part of all of them, there was no specific energybenders. Then because of the new differences in the tribes, and all were not equal, others (fire) thought they were better than others, and began a war, or they just started fighting or whatever. then the spirits created the avatar as someone who could be the equal, someone who could be a part of all, and was in fact a part of each nation. Then it sorta went downhill from there.
But nowadays (or thenadays) when people like Sokka can't bend, it's because their spiritual energy is not high enough, and/or has just not kicked in.
