OK, it seems like the general sentiment is that we'd like to continue talking about films. So, this thread is for us to decide some things about that.

Do we want to continue with just period films? Or add another type of film--like modern comedies? Or maybe we separate certain months into certain time periods?

Tell us which films you'd like to talk about and I'll make a schedule. If you want to name films you suggested for the summer discussions but we didn't get to them, throw those out again. It's up to you all!

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) It doesn't matter to me, I am amenable to whatever is agreed upon. Comedies are good, since it is a different genre of film away from the Austen films which I do enjoy also. I am good either way.

I am fine with a mix up of genres on the same list, and it might be fun to add comedies. I have been wanting to see Greenfingers (Helen Mirren, Clive Owen) for a long time. And I would certainly like to continue with some period movies too -- I am sure we haven't even made a dent in the great movies that have been created.

Do you have thoughts or personal preference on creating the viewing schedule, Hon. Miss Moderator? Megan?

Maybe every a movie every other week? Fall is so busy for most people.

OK, I suppose a film every couple of weeks would be a more manageable schedule. Since that would leave only a handful of films for the season, I think I'll extend the schedule through to the end of the year.

I like the idea of adding other films with the period ones, so I'll use my best judgment.

Sarah, could you send me a message with a list of the suggestions from last season--I can use at least a few of those we didn't get to. Then I'll add more to the list and get out a schedule to start with the first weekend in October.

Thank you, Sarah! Just got your message. :)

I also wanted to throw out this idea to you all: what about a scary film (maybe period) for Halloween? Like Dracula or The Wolfman? It also doesn't have to be period, just a good frightening film. Just an idea!

Oooo, Dracula!

message 10: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) That would be thematic, I like the idea, Frankenstein's Wife with Elsa Lanchester, perhaps.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

If we need comedy and scary, we could do Young Frankenstein!

message 12: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Yes, that is hilarious.

We might even have a little Halloween film festival that could be going the week of Halloween or something. Since the film discussions don't have the time constraints of the novel discussions, that might be possible. Then we could get in both spooky and spooky/funny.

message 14: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) yes that would be terrific.

message 15: by Lani (new)

Lani (lani14) | 57 comments Arsenic and Old Lace with Carey Grant is always great for Halloween

message 16: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Yes,s that one is good. What about the Haunting with Julie Harris?

message 17: by Kim (new)

Kim | 181 comments The Shining? or even the original Halloween?

message 18: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina ooohhhhh Bram Stoker's Drakula is one of my favorite movies
. . . love all the suggestions

message 19: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum We watch Arsenic and Old Lace every year; it never gets old! The one-liners that we use from it throughout the year always make us laugh. My daughters use, "Of course she was. She's my mother, isn't she?" all of the time. Charge!!!!

Oh, Arsenic and Old Lace, good one!! Good scary (and scary-funny) choices too! I'll put these down on a separate list and draw two or three for Halloween weekend, because that Halloween Film Festival idea is a GREAT one, Sarah!

I also thought about putting some of the recommendations on the "Must See Classic Movies" thread in this group on the list, for some variety. Would everyone be okay with that? That way, we'd get mostly period films, with two or three scary and a couple others mixed in. I'll do the random drawing and put up the schedule tomorrow!

Sabrina Can't wait :-)

That will be fun, Rachel :)

message 23: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum Looking forward to it -- and thanks for doing it early so we can get ready, Rachel!

message 24: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Same here, can hardly wait for the choices.

message 25: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 226 comments For December could we maybe do Hogfather? You can read the book outside the series and still pick up on things. BBC did a wonderful mini-series based on the book, available on Netflix (streaming or DVD). It's one of my new films to go into my holiday video box.

message 26: by Amalie (new)

Amalie Can we make suggestions? Rachel if that's the case, Lorna Doone (2000) and Middlemarch (1994). And if it's not, still, all of you please watch them, they are really good. Well, may be Lorna Doone is bit altered from the book, but still really nice :)
