Lady Pirates
Ok so the ones Ive read are The Pirate Queen: The Story of Grace O'Malley, Irish Pirate by Alan Gold (5 star for me)The Pirate QueenDiana Norman Sea Star: The Private Life of Anne Bonney, Pirate Queen this one is about Anne Bonny there was another book with Anne Bonny & Mary Read but I cant remmeber the name..anyone know? a good book about Grace O'Malley is by Anne ChambersGranuaile lots of good info.
Another couple of good books about Grace O'Malley the lady pirate Graniaand The Wild Irish and Anne Bonny Heart of A Pirate: A Novel of Anne Bonny
I recently read Captive Passions by Fern Michaels, where the heroine sails a pirate ship seeking revenge for the man who raped her and her sister. It's a cartoony book and not all that serious, but it was notable IMO for the heroine killing and maiming enemies while the hero didn't get his hands bloody at all. I'm used to a lot of old school heroines getting rescued, rather than being the rescuer.
Gosh Karla ..Havent read that series in so long..I still have the orginals! should give it a go just to see what I think of it now..
Joeena I have that book too.let me know what you think if you get to it before me..

I've got the rest of the Captive series as well and want to read the book about Caleb - I think it's Book 3? He was awesome in CP - an unobnoxious kid. Very rare animal.
A great leading"lady pirate" read
although Henry Morgan was a real Pirate himself, "Jamie" his daughter in the book is fictional(I googled but came up with nothing)
I put this aside to finish some other group reads..but will come back to it and give a review.

I've read The Only Life That Mattered: The Short and Merry Lives of Anne Bonny, Mary Read, and Calico Jack. Ok, so I like Jim Nelson's other pirate books (but be forewarned -- they are NOT romances), but this one didn't do it for me. Why? Because Nelson can't write women. He makes Anne Bonny out to be a heartless maneater. The characters are not people you feel for, one way or the other.
Good to know R.L...books on *lady Pirates* are hard to find..let me know if you find some ..maybe we could do a read & discuss? dosent have to have *romance* but its also a nice touch to the story fictional or otherwise.
Does anyone else have a hard time reading lady pirate stories? I have not even picked one up. I enjoy living vicariously (sometimes) through the female the sexy pirate is pursuing!
MY first & still favorite "lady Pirate" book was by Pamela Jekel
I love stories where the lady is the Pirate....the "leader" I guess for her independence...own person..but has a soft side as well..I cant stand "wimpy" winey women,..there are some "lady Pirate" stories that are a little more "hard around the edges" & are more "true" to form. but they had to be to be Captain of a ship & earn the mens respect in a time when it was considered bad luck to even have a women on board.
so if your going to try a "lady Pirate" story for your first Jana you might like the one above as your first.

Grace O'Malley will always be my favorite female pirate..but these two (Im reading this book) Ann Bonny & Mary Read..are close on Grace's heels..this is a really good book so far also with handsome dashing Calico Jack in it.

There is romance in it but not like the "historical romance" kind.

I like the sound of the first one! Is yours a paperback or HC? Amazon has the HC for $1.99. The other two books I have but havent read yet either.
Xtina Skye - The black rose was a great 1 ! I glommed 4 a while & still have her books in my stash. Haven't read the other 2.

I guess I just wanted a fiestier lead with more back bone :3 I'm just so picky >.<

Ok Sandi, you seem to know everything there is to know about pirate romances, see if you can figure out this one. I probably read this book 20 years or so ago. All I remember is that the lady pirate had to get rid of her virginity, so she either captured a guy, or a ship and the guy was on the ship in order to do so. Then she ends up tying him to the bed to get the deed done, not knowing this is about the worst way possible to get rid of your virginity. Something happens and they have to leave him there. I thought it was Leigh Bristol's Hearts Aflame, but I just reread that one and that isn't it. Any ideas?
20 years ago! LOL now thats a challange Kity since Ive read quite a few, and alot have the same plot/theme capture/captive ect. But some of those stand out..capture of the guy,has to lose her virginty, and leaves him on the ship stand out but the title is not coming to mind. This is why it pays to do a review...let me work on this...
LOL! No problem. I spent like 4 hours reading reviews of books on the web to see if any sounded familiar. Leigh Bristol's sounded right, but wasn't quite right. Shannon Drake's was a possibility, but I don't have the book to verify it. If you can't help it's ok, but I figured if anyone I found might know, you would (: If you can't find it, not a problem, this was sort of a last ditch effort (:

by Rebecca Brandewyne?THEY CALLED HER THE CRIMSON WITCH...
Born Genevieve Saint-Georges, she had reigned as the belle of Paris until the French Revolution sent her fleeing for her life. Now, masked in scarlet, the salt breeze whipping through her hair, she is the beautiful, brazen sea capitaine who leads her pirate crew in the name of freedom -- and revenge.
THE CALLED HIM THE BLACK MEPHISTO...
Notorious spy and mysterious master of disguise, the black-masked bandit of the seas, only he can match Genevieve exploit for exploit, sword thrust for sword thrust, as he dares to rescue the innocent from the guillotine. Only he can awaken her sleeping senses with the softest, most seductive caresses tilll she is burning with the liquid fire, beyond passion, and the sweet prisoner of...Desire in Disguise.
I think I read somewhere that the heroine had a nasty first time.
Jenny
Another possibility Lady Pirate by Lynsay SandsAt the age of four and twenty, Valoree, has been successful in her masquerade as her murdered brother - the Notorious Captain Red. That is, until she finds out about her inheritance of Ainsley Castle. She will be able to claim it if she marries a nobleman and gets pregnant before turning twenty-five, which happens to be her next birthday.
Lady Reluctant
It does sound like something Lynsay Sands would write.
I havent read that one yet by Lynsay Sands Jenny, but that sounds close to what Kity described. I read "Desire in Disquise" many years ago but I dont think its that one (will have to do a re-read now!),I think this book she seeks is more along the BR type...
Thanks Jenny! :)
Thanks Jenny! :)

I don’t know if this counts, since I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but Yasmeen in Heart of Steel is a little bit of a pirate. Okay, maybe ‘pirate’ is too harsh. She’s a privateer. Of course, this is steampunk, so she’s the captain of a zeppelin. This looks to be a great series. I read the first book, The Iron Duke and was wowed by the amazing world building. And Yasmeen is a pretty big character in The Iron Duke. Heart of Steel is her own book though. I really liked Yasmeen. I would love to step into her psyche. I need to read it.

I guess because they are independent & strong willed.
In a time when women had limitations & were to serve "man & his hearth" I applaud women who dare to bend the rules! a few of my favorites are Grace o'Malley..Anne Bonny..Mary Reed.So factual or fictional let us know of ones you have read.
