Joseph Conrad was Polish living in Englad. "Heart of darkness" is about Congo, not from Congo.

I read Heart of Darkness last year and followed it up with The Last Expedition - about Stanley's last trup to the congo. This year I read Chief of Station, Congo by Larry Devlin about Congo post colonialism and all te machinations that went on at the time. It was fascinating

The Poisonwood Bible also takes place in Congo, although the author isn't from there.
