Elias Canetti "Voices Of Marrakesh" (not by a Moroccan author, but about Morocco, a classical one); Abdelhak Serhane "Messaouda"

Dear Juliane, this community is about reading a book from each country, not about each country. Sorry, if I made you feel bad cause of my exactness, but it comes from my studies of administration where you have to be exact.
I think people interested in international literature would be interested in books "about" countries as well. IMHO, we don't need to be so exact.
"Dreams of Trespass" by Fatima Mernissi is a good book by a Moroccan about Morocco. She also wrote several other excellent books.
Laila Lalami's book "Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits" is a beautiful book (written by a Moroccan in part about Morocco, but really more about the human condition and the idea of home). Its prose is spare so it's a quick but enjoyable read.
