Oh, and I've heard that there's a really good twist at the end of the book...

I hear it picks up around where you are. I'm on page 36, so I have a little bit of catching up to do, but at this point, it's a little slow.

It's pretty interesting... I think I like it!

This book picked up a lot around page 60! It almost feels like a different book. Now I am sucked in... I'm in the mid 60s and am finding Vida's story much more interesting than the narrator's.

Crap! I only made it to 105 last night before my mommy voice decided that I should go to bed, or regret it this morning. Vida's stories are much more interesting!

It was around midnight when I quit. I was having trouble keeping my eyes open before that, but I wanted to keep reading... You don't have to be 100 pages ahead of me you know... (Though I understand that you're not competitive at all ;))

You're right, I'm not competitive at all. :)~

Actually, I just REALLLLY want to start Fall of Giants as soon as possible. Plus, I have about 13 more books that I have to read this year if I want to finish all of my challenges... GRR!

I made it to page 111 last night! It was a little bit creepy because that was the point when she first brought up the ghosts (after the Doctor's wife had been hit in the head) and when I looked at the clock as I was shutting the book on page 111 it was 1:11 a.m..

That is a little spooky! :) I made it to about 179, but was too tired at that point. Not much will happen tonight, but I'm still hoping to finish it by the end of the weekend. I want to read Fall of Giants!

Me too! I saw you already started a thread for it... The Thirteenth Tale is going pretty quickly. I think we can do it!

I made it to page 216 last night! This is a twisty, turny book!

I couldn't help myself! It kind of sucked me in! I started reading around 10 and the next thing I knew, it was midnight...

I didn't get too far last night... I made it to 250 before I fell asleep on my book. I'm confused now though. Is Emmeline still alive? Who is Aurelius's mother? How does Margaret tie to the other characters (it seems like she's got to have some connection other than getting a letter and writing a book... oh and being a twin...)? aaaaaahhhhhh

message 19: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
I'm not quite to 250 yet, but am close. I have all of these same questions! The thing that I want to know the most is what the connection with Margaret is. There HAS to be a connection... especially with Vida Winters snagged Margaert with the line about twins.

AHHHHHH! Plus, I guess that there's another twist coming - near the end. That's what my friend Pamela told me. I guess that it took her by surprise.... ARGH!!!!!

What time are you leaving on Saturday?

I'm leaving sometime Saturday morning. I need to mow my lawn and finish cleaning my house and then I can leave. Why? Do you want to do something Saturday morning?

Sonja | 881 comments Mod
There has to be a reason the Vida picked Margaret out of all of the people that would have been lined up to do the biography. It can't be just that they are twins. Also, how did Vida know that Margaret was a twin? Apparently not many people knew about it...

Exactly! I have a budding idea... but I'm not sure how to write it down just yet...

OMG! The twists! (I'm on page 321...)

The answers come pretty quickly around page 345. I just finished the book. While the first few pages seemed a little slow, the last ones went by very quickly! I'm still a little stunned...

What did you think about the end? I thought it finished very quickly and things got wrapped up very fast at the end, but it worked. It didn't feel out of place to me.

Yeah, nothing felt bad - but it was sudden. So much build up, and then it was all done. I felt like there were a lot of twists and turns in the story. Yes, there were clues throughout, but there were lots of them. I think that the one that struck me the most was finding out that Vida Winters wasn't even one of the twins... oh, and that Margaret was actually a conjoined twin. Could you imagine going through life with large scar on your torso (or anywhere on your body) but not know why it's there? I find it hard to believe and quite cruel that Margaret's parents never told her while she was growing up. Yes, it's awful that the other twin died, but that twin is and was part of her identity.

Isn't it also kind of interesting that we've now read two books with conjoined twins in the last few weeks?
