Both! Then we can compare them. Ok, maybe we should just pick one. It would be fun to read the book, too, but I'm thinking that might be better for another time?
Are we watching the Dracula with Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins and Keanu Reeves?I absolutely love Last of the Mohicans. The music from that movie is amazing.
You are so right, Grace: the music is stunning! We ran out and bought the cd after we watched the movie, and my daughters used it for ballet classes!
YAY, I'm so glad everyone is so excited!
Alicia wrote: "Which version of The Importance of Being Earnest are we watching, 2002 or 1952?"
The 2002 version with Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon.

Yep, the Francis Ford Coppola version, with Oldman, Hopkins, Reeves, and Winona Ryder.

If we have seen some of the movies already, can we comment on them when the threads come up,how are you planning to have questions and have topics on each movie?

Yeah, you can definitely go ahead and comment if you've seen the films already, especially if they're still fresh in your mind. These movie discussions can be about seeing new things or re-viewing some you may have forgotten.

If you are a Netlix subscriber, you can see both the 2002 and 1952 versions of The Importance of Being Earnest on Watch Instantly.
I haven't found the Dracula movie the one with Gary Oldman, etc. I did get Young Frankenstein. That one is hilarious. I already saw Wives and Daughters and Casablanca, and Philadelphia Story as well. Stardust who is in that movie?
Wow Robin! You are crazy about period dramas aren't you? Don't worry bit same here, just don't have enough time. You got a good taste. I loved 'Wives and Daughters' and 'Casablanca'. Who can not love Casablanca!!!
Glad you all are so ready for the films we'll be discussing later!

Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Robert De Niro star in Stardust and it is more of a romantic fantasy than a period drama. I hope you'll give it a chance, Robin--it is amazing!

Wow - that is a great (and quite diverse) list. I love Importance of Being Earnest -- I've seen it repeatedly. It's been a while since I saw Last of the Mohicans, but who could forget Daniel Day-Lewis in anything, really?!Young Frankenstein is a classic (my husband and I both love it) and it's now a Broadway production. Gary Oldman is flat-out creepy as Dracula.
Thanks Rachel, didn't recall seeing anything regarding Stardust. Will be sure to reserve at my library. Vicki, Young Frankenstein is so funny. I have it now, have to find a good time to watch it.
Hello! I'm just wondering if there is going to be a new schedule for the winter? Movies or Books? Cheers!
January 14th for Wives and Daughters, the movie. Okay, did not check the new posting. Thanks, Rachel.
Did you hear that Leonardo DiCaprio will star in Baz Luhrmann's 3-D version of "The Great Gatsby" in the new year?" Zelda is played by Carey Mulligan (Kitty in Pride & Prejudice, 2002) also Tobey Maguire, and Isla Fisher.Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rARN6a...
Release date: 5/10/2013

The discussions will take place on a two-week basis this season, to allow ample time for obtaining and viewing the films, and the schedule goes through the end of the year. This was a random drawing, with a small amount of classic films mixed in with the period films. Thanks to a great idea from Sarah, there is also a mini Halloween Film Festival--I chose from a handful of scary and scary-funny films for that weekend. I hope everyone is looking forward to this list--I know I am! ENJOY!
--October 1: Last of the Mohicans
--October 15: The Importance of Being Earnest
--October 29:HALLOWEEN FILM FEST--Dracula and Young Frankenstein
--November 12: Casablanca
--November 26: Stardust
--December 10:The Philadelphia Story
--December 24: Wives and Daughters
EDIT: The book discussion of Wives and Daughters will be six weeks in length, so the viewing of the film will now be on the weekend of January 14th, so everyone can read the book THEN see the film!
