Having a bad day and just need some advice or someone to talk to? This is the place. Sit back, relax, and start talking.

SFBlau | 2 comments Just wanted to introduce myself...

I contribute articles to newsletters and websites about historic cooking. I do/have done presentations, food tastings and workshops on Medieval and Renaissance Cookery. I am also a vendor, selling period cookbooks and kitchen accessories at SCA events and Renaissance fairs in Northern California.

I look forward to exploring more interesting books on our shared interest. I welcome new friends.

Blessings*
Barb

S. P. Hendrick (sphendrick) | 11 comments Losing momentum. After turning out 4 novels in 10 months have gotten as far as chapter 2 on the third volume of one series and chapter 4 on the first volume of the third series (first series is written through October 2012 and I need to catch 2nd series up to it as they are interrelated. Third series is a whole different genre...mystery)

I know from experience the longer I stay away from writing, the harder it is to get back to it. I was supposed to be going to a convention this weekend to do a book signing with my publisher, but he spent the week in the hospital and just got out with orders to keep his leg elevated for the next week at least, which effectively put an end to our plans. I think I originally lost momentum getting ready for the convention, and I just can't seem to focus.

Beth (msbhavens1) | 24 comments Ouch! that is a bummer! does re-reading your last book help you out or? I know everyone is different, but that helps me re-ground when I'm lost on my writing, sort of re-focuses the story line for me.

S. P. Hendrick (sphendrick) | 11 comments It helps some. I write first person male, so it is a real head-change to get back into the flow. I have actually done a couple of pages since posting this. I find writing more like I am taking dictation from an outside party than actually composing myself. I generally do not know what is going to happen until the main characters find out. It is a very different form of writin than the omniscient off-screen narrator. If Dubhghall isn't ready to talk to me, nothing is going to happen.

It really is a case of momentum and inertia, as the first 9 chapters are always the hardedt. By the time I hit double digits I am rolling along and it comes out in torrents. Just got to get there.

Also, having 2 projects live at the same time is difficult, even for a Gemini, even if one is taking place in modern times and the other is currrently in the 12th century. I gey dizzy switching hats.
