lol! Aditya i read the comments here first and thought u calling Nalini( im not going to say aunty or the sorts bcoz i dont think 51 is old)old was actually kinda rude!
then saw the comment u posted in the word association game and actually laughed out loud! :)
Wish i could convince my mother to use the net , let alone join a social network! :)

@Nalini: What subjects do u teach in biology?

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Hazel, i wudn't say the thought didn't cross my mind too. I was worried that someone might actually lash out at me, but decided to take the risk :-) Rare chance to pull my mom's leg. For a fact i know she'd be itching to call me 'old' for various other reasons too!!

message 11: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Am sure intellect is much more than a couple of degrees or a few hundred books. But yes, we will look like a family of bookworms for sure. My dad was an avid reader, currently not in touch only because of his work-demands. Am sure he'll get back to books once he retires maybe in 4-5 yrs. And my bro, he is a PRO! Reads a variety of books, right from Wodehouse's comedies to biographies to travelogues and many many more, i ll try and get him to be more active here on Goodreads!

As for bringing my dad on board, i think it's mom's job, amma listening?? ;-)

Sujaritha Guess I should have done this introduction of myself a long time ago.

Sujaritha

Job: That's right. You guessed it from the city.

message 14: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Welcome Deepak! EMF theory is the equivalent of "sleep science" in our curriculum and am surprised it's been so since decades. Ur 'format' of introduction is interesting, maybe we can have it as a 'standard template of introduction' with a few tweaks :-)

message 15: by Mohit (new)

Mohit | 415 comments Before the standard template gets introduced ... :-)

Mohit
27, B'lore
Business Analyst (okay okay ... basically IT only :P)

message 16: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments once the standard is in place, all the old introductions will be obsolete ;-)
"Business Analyst" is quite a title. That reminded me of mine which i wrote down as "VLSI Engineer". There was this time when a colleague of mine used to introduce himself as Hardware Engineer (to emphasize the point that we aren't into software) until one of his relatives asked "Beta, do u own a 'hardware store' where u sell commodes and sinks"?
From then we are using "VLSI Engineer" as the standard, a 'non-understandable' designation is better than misunderstood one!

My linkedin profile tells me that I'm a 'Financial Derivatives Analyst', though I'm not entirely sure what that means. Long story short, a clueless college-grad who is still struggling to come to terms with the ways of the big, bad world.

dely | 5488 comments Good afternoon to everybody. I'm new in this group and I am also new on Goodreads.
I am italian, I live in Italy and I'm 39 years old; I'm mother and housewife (not disperated!). My english is not very good because it's a long time I don't write it so if you will find a lot of mistakes please tell me so I can improve.
I would like to make you a lot of questions about India in order to know it better and to know if I imagine India in a right way. It's 6 years that I practise hatha-yoga and in these last two years I like reading about hinduism because I feel attracted by these religion. I am fascinated by India and I imagine that there everything is much more spiritual that every where else. Perhaps I only idealize India and its life and I have never read any book about life in India. I have many other questions for you but I don't want to be too boring the firts time I write in this group :D If you agree I can open a new discussion where we can make each other all the questions we want; so, if you have questions about Italy or italians I will be glade to answer you.

message 26: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Hi Dely, it's great to have you here. Interesting reasons you got to join this group, you are first of the kind and you are welcome.

You are free to start discussions and ask questions that are harmless and might enlighten you. Hinduism is but one religion in India. Though its in the majority, India is truly defined by its mix of religions, cultures, languages, races etc. In this small group of 460, we have people from different religions, regions, and languages.

And all the question and answer sessions and books about India will just give you so much information that at the end of the day you got to experience it to know it. Nonetheless do go ahead and ask whatever it is that you want to, we are humbled to have you here :-)

Coming to Italy, my connection with Italy is through my FIAT Palio that i bought an year ago. Its one amazing car that has got a soul, there are so many fans for this car, we have a yahoo group for palio users in India and we simply worship Palio and FIAT. No other Indian, Asian or American car manufacturer comes closer to making such beasts! And the second connection is through my reading of Godfather and its sequels. I understand almost all Godfather books are set in America but i remember one of them is set in Italy where the son of the original Don gets to spend a few days. That's about it.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Aditya u forgot the pizza's u live on! lol!

message 28: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Oh dear, that's almost bordering on betrayal. Really, how can i forget that delicious dish called Pasta and the cheese burst Pizzas and the Thin crust ones too. You see it's been a whole day since i ate a Pizza, hence i was forgetful! Never mind, i'd just add that to the second item on my list above the Godfather novel. Nothing beats the Palio :-)

message 30: by dely (new)

I'm italian but I have never had a Fiat and I suppose I will never buy one! I love pizza but also all the spices you use in the indian cookery.

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Ohk, welcome again Miss Cool!!

@Akanksha, Welcome here, so i suppose u r the second youngest member here (not exactly sure), no prizes for guessing the first, but u might put to test ur sleuthing skills. And am sure u r on ur way to become an Analyst :-) You have many seniors here, watch out!

ps: this group would love to see u start a thread on poems, i remember there is an old thread already on that topic, plz feel free to go ahead and revive that if u can!

message 38: by Akanksha (new)

Akanksha Singh (akankshasingh92) | 1414 comments @Aditya Thanks :) I'll try my best to revive the thread that is, if i can find it!!! As for being an analyst, i'm an engineer through and through :D

message 39: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Great! Even if u dnt find it, just start a new one!

@Analysts et al, Am sure all/some of u are out there analyzing this thread and ready to pounce on me in some dark spooky street on the Goodreads and analyze me to death ;-) Ok no more 'professional' digs, doesn't sound fair!

message 42: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Akanksha take it this way, u got three more years to enjoy life, add 2-5 more if u continue topping ur class and decide to do ur masters/research! Don't be in a hurry to analyse :-)

message 43: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments My company has come to IIT mumbai last friday for recruiting, unfortunately they took none! I have one colleague who joined us from there an year ago, but all these are Masters candidates!

MBA at IIMS is not at all 'lofty' by any standards, esp for someone who tops the class :-) . IIMs is not a big deal, let me boast a bit, when i took the CAT, i got calls from 5 IIMs and i haven't joined any. trust me it isn't a lofty pants regd TM!

message 44: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47125 comments Mod
I dont know about IIMs and IITs, but one thing I do know is that once you start, you never stop learning (or in some cases, being forced to do so). I had great hopes of leading a carefree life as an adult, but my bubble burst a long time ago. In my field, we are forced to renew our knowledge continuously, do research and publish as far as possible ( only good thing in this is that I love research, publications and learning new things so that it doesnot tax me too much unless my fiction reading is compromised). Sorry for rambling on and on and good luck
