I wasn't a big fan of his books, Ann, but he did have an impressive film background. Some of his books might have suffered from being "screen plays" doubling as novels.

Sad, so young. There was a time you couldn't watch TV without stumbling across his name in the credits.
I watched his TV stuff, but was always amazed that his books were the same time and place, and the same people as, say, Michael Connelly, yet did not have the level of suspense or realism.
I'm sorry to hear about this. I haven't read his books have one or two unread on my shelf. I remember seeing him on Castle. I wonder if they will put something at the end of castle this week. Also I know he was working with Janet Evanovich on a book. I was looking forward to it. But everytime they came up with a issuing out date they kept moving it up. Haven't heard anything about it in awhile.
DonnaJo:Perhaps the Evanovich collaborative project was delayed while he was ill. His latest Shane Scully novel has excerpts on the website and will be out soon.

Maybe but it's been talked about for over a year. And I forgot to ask Janet's daughter Alex when I was talking to her at the booksigning.

We spoke recently of his later Shane Scully books being more Hollywood than literary, but he did have a very impressive body of work in print and on film.
