Eleanor seems almost eager to maintain ties with our family. If it were not for her visits, I would have no knowledge of Henri. I do distrust her motives though; I wish I knew what she was scheming.

February 13, 1796.
Henri became physically threatening this morning, and almost insanely angry. Initially, it seemed a harmless social visit, and one I had hoped to use to my advantage. I saw no threat, assuming he had come to posture.
We went into the study to talk and his demeanour changed immediately, becoming raging and menacing. He flung me against the wall, choking away my breath, demanding I cease all pretence of friendship with Eleanor. I could do nothing but gasp and choke and he soon realized his behaviour was wasted. He let me fall to the floor, and issued more ugly threats before leaving.
