Shelly (shellye77) This is my absolute favorite sub-genre. I love history, and I think it's so neat to incorporate a love story, especially in the regency era - where restrictions were so plentiful!

Gabrielle Blaque/~Bhlack Benehvolence~ (werewolfgrl1) | 226 comments I'm kind of fond of the historical romances that incorporate the tales of the old west, I'm especially fond of the historical romances that have Native American people and lore in them.

I love the regency era, especially the dukes, marquesses, earls, and viscounts.

Gabrielle Blaque/~Bhlack Benehvolence~ (werewolfgrl1) | 226 comments Xia? Have you heard of a historical romance called The Naked Marquis by Sally MacKenzie?

It was a pretty good read, it wasn't my favorite but it was pretty good.

message 5: by Xia (new)

Xia (xiat) No, but I'll check it out. Thanks.

Comanche Moon (Comanche, #1) by Catherine Anderson Comanche Heart (Comanche, #2) by Catherine Anderson Indigo Blue (Comanche, #3) by Catherine Anderson and Comanche Magic (Comanche, #4) by Catherine Anderson

Oh, I know, and the rakes and rogues, the ultimate bad boys of proper society who fall hard!! Yum!

Gabrielle Blaque/~Bhlack Benehvolence~ (werewolfgrl1) | 226 comments I like some books with rakes and rogues in them, but the thing I like most about the Regency Era is the clothing.

message 11: by Shelly (new)

Shelly (shellye77) Oh yes, the clothing is so interesting! I have been looking online at some fashion plates from the era, so cool!

message 12: by Xia (new)

Xia (xiat) I just finished Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart (Love By Numbers, #3) by Sarah MacLean . Great book to end the series.

Bridget (bekeown) | 126 comments Has anyone tried any of Laura Lee Guhrke's works? I made her part of my May Challenge reading and I love her work! The two I've read thus far are His Every Kiss (Guilty Series, #2) by Laura Lee Guhrke and And Then He Kissed Her (Girl Bachelors, #1) by Laura Lee Guhrke and adored them both.

Bridget, I've read Guilty Pleasures (Guilty Series, #1) by Laura Lee Guhrke and The Marriage Bed (Guilty Series, #3) by Laura Lee Guhrke and Secret Desires of a Gentleman (Girl Bachelors, #3) by Laura Lee Guhrke all of which I loved. I'm currently reading Wedding of the Season (Abandoned at the Altar, #1) by Laura Lee Guhrke and have the 2nd book in this series Scandal of the Year (Abandoned at the Altar, #2) by Laura Lee Guhrke on Kindle.

Gabrielle Blaque/~Bhlack Benehvolence~ (werewolfgrl1) | 226 comments I'm pretty sure I've never heard of her. I take it she focuses mainly on regency novels?

Speaking of which is anyone familiar with this author? Her name is Virginia Henley

I just got done reading this book for the last challenge. Here it is, Ravished by Virginia Henley .

Bridget (bekeown) | 126 comments Glad to hear you enjoyed them, Carol--thanks for the recommendations. Might have to make a bookstore run tonight... :)

Aditi (givemeabook) | 7 comments Hey everyone :)
so i'm really new to this posting on message boards thing but i really love historical/regency romances..but i'm not sure what to read
i have read pretty much all stephanie laurens, julia quinn and mary balough books ( i might have spelled some of the names wrong :/)
but i was just wondering if any of you had some good authors of the same caliber that i could read?

oh and also have any of you read the latest julia quinn book from the symthe quartet "just like heaven"?
what did you think?
xx

Bridget (bekeown) | 126 comments Hi Aditi!
I absolutely love Loretta Chase and Elizabeth Hoyt (though they are not strictly Regency, they are splendid historical romances). Also, Laura Lee Guhrke has recently been added to my Must Read List. She gets a smidgen formulaic sometimes, but it's such a good formula, how can you resist?

Gabrielle Blaque/~Bhlack Benehvolence~ (werewolfgrl1) | 226 comments Hi Aditi! I just found out about Stephanie Laurens the other day when I was at the library.

Anyway while I was there I found these other authors that you might get into, I don't know if they're all Regency Romances but they looked like that when I looked at the covers. You might want to check into them.

1.Tamara Lejeune

2. Julie Anne Long

3. Sara Lindsey

I took a look at the author names as soon as I got a chance, and although I'm not usually into regency romances some of these sounded pretty good, so you might get into them as well.

Also I did read one book that you might also consider a regency romance it wasn't a bad read either.

The book's called The Naked Marquis and it's by Sally MacKenzie.

Like I said you might get into these. Good luck!

Bridget, I agree with you about all those three authors. They are all must-read authors for me.

Gabrielle Blaque/~Bhlack Benehvolence~ (werewolfgrl1) | 226 comments Ok! I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person in this group that likes Historical Romances. So I need an opinion here.

I'm getting ready to read this series and I have one book from the library, but I just found out that according to the goodreads site that it is the second of a series.

So my first question is this; is anyone familiar with the Historical Romance Author Cathy Maxwell? If so has anyone read her series called the Seductions and Scandal series?

Here's where the needed opinion comes in. Do you feel that the books should be read in order or is it ok to read them out of order?

I appreciate any ideas and opinions regarding this matter.

Thanks guys!

message 30: by Bridget (new)

Bridget (bekeown) | 126 comments Hi Gabrielle!

I've never read Cathy Maxwell, but according to a co-worker, you can read the series in any order and there aren't any spoilers...well, I got the sense that there aren't enough spoilers to ruin any books that aren't read in order. Hope that helps!

Along the same lines, has anyone ever read Anne Stuart's Heavenly Host series, starting with Ruthless, I believe? I've heard mixed reviews and wondering if they are worth the read...
Thanks!

Gabrielle Blaque/~Bhlack Benehvolence~ (werewolfgrl1) | 226 comments Thanks for the info Bridget! I'm still contemplating it the author herself said the series didn't necessarily have to be read in order but she also said "Every book stands alone; however, I do use recurring characters for some of my books."

So I'm still debating about whether or not I should just go ahead and read the series in order, just to be on the safe side.

Gabrielle Blaque/~Bhlack Benehvolence~ (werewolfgrl1) | 226 comments Is anyone familiar with Historical Romance author Sophia Nash? If so has anyone read her series entitled Widows Club?

If so would you think the series would have to be read in order?

message 33: by Aditi (new)

Aditi (givemeabook) | 7 comments sooo i saw my mum reading a novel by an author i never heard of..

Emma Wildes?

sorry i have been gone for so long uni is killing me i have 3 assignments due tomorrow!

xx
ps. i haven't heard of the widows club but they sound interesting :) i can't wait for your review!

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) Aditi, I've read Lessons From a Scarlet Lady by Emma Wildes and An Indecent Proposition by Emma Wildes and enjoyed both books but particularly the second one. I have My Lord Scandal (Notorious Bachelors, #1) by Emma Wildes and Our Wicked Mistake (Notorious Bachelors, #2) by Emma Wildes from her Notorious Bachelor series on my TBR pile and hope to get the 3rd book His Sinful Secret (Notorious Bachelors, #3) by Emma Wildes soon.

Aditi (givemeabook) | 7 comments awesome!! thank you i will definitely have to check them out!

i was recommended to read the naked nobility series by Sally Mackenzie and i have read all of them except the naked baron (which i will hopefully start and finish over the weekend) I loved them!! not much as the julia quinn books.. however they were hilarious and heart warming two of my must haves in historical romances!!
i would give the series a 3 1/2 to 4 out of 5 so they a definite read!
thanks for the suggestion!
also i came across this website which lists a tonne of books if your ever stuck for what to read so i thought i would link it just in case some one wants something new or different to read

Elizabeth Carter (eecarter) | 2 comments If you enjoy historical romance with equal lashings of history and romance, then I hope you might like Moonstone Obsession:

Secrets, scandal, and passion…

Selina Rosewall had given up on love, but while helping her brother further his merchant fleet business, she meets Sir James Mitchell, Lord of Penventen. Their attraction is mutual, but what James wants from the relationship goes further—much further—than Selina could have expected. And she learns that in the world of the Ton, scandal and deceit are commonplace.

For Sir James Mitchell, Lord of Penventen, it’s hard to say which is more dangerous: being a spy or being considered husband material by the Ladies of the Ton. With political machinations threatening to draw England into the violent wake of the French Revolution, the last thing James expected was to fall in love with Selina Rosewall, daughter of an untitled seafaring family. But when James’ investigation stirs up a hornet’s nest, can he protect Selena from danger that threatens her very life?
