Lorena (lorenalilian) Hi, a woman next door moved away a few days ago and left her two cats behind. I have never had cats, know very little about them and have a dog that hates them, if not I would take them in.

My question is should I call animal control or are these guys able to survive on their own? I live in Georgia. I know she had a cat door, but the new owner replaced that door already.

Dave Russell She just left her cats? What a horribly uncaring person. If you can't find a friend to take them, I'd take them to the local animal shelter.

In Oregon Animal Control won't even come and get them. They only deal with dogs. If a cat is hit on the road, even if it is still alive, they won't come and get it. You can take them to the Humane Society though. Well, unless Georgia is more cat friendly.

Beastly woman, she should be prosecuted! Sometimes I really hate people...

Yeah, what Dave said. These cats are used to being taken care of. They probably don't know how to hunt to feed themselves, and could get run over, or drink from a puddle with anti-freeze in it, or shot by someone who doesn't want them in their garden.
The outside is not a very friendly place to a stray cat.

Ruth You could post an ad in the local paper, offering them for adoption. You can ask around and find out if there is a local cat lady, who takes in stray cats. Every community seems to have one. You can call the Humane Society and ask them for suggestions.

Not Bill | 1061 comments Left their cats eh? Nice. No place in hell hot enough. Damn... I seems to be sending lots of folks there of late. Ah well, guess that's how it is.

Lori I don't understand people who do this. Completely lacking in compassion. I'm so glad you are trying to do something for them, Lorena.

message 9: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) Wow. That REALLY pisses me off. Can you catch them or do they run from you? I'd take them to a rescue or to the SPCA. How can someone leave a pet behind? I am astonished.

Lorena (lorenalilian) Amazingly guys some of these posts are not giving me a lot of hopes for these guys! **LOL**

Wow, I want to believe that no one in our community is going to shot these guys, I was more worried about shelter once the cold sets in, now I am thinking about the other stuff like food. I'm not sure I can catch them to actually give them to someone, they sit in our porch, don't bother us at all, just the dog goes nuts and scares them.

I will call tomorrow to both Animal Control and the Humane Society, to see what can they do. I am just afraid they'll say that they'll come and get them and kill them if no one wants them like they do with dogs... I'll keep you guys posted ;o)

RandomAnthony I got my last cat as a stray...some drunk lady left him on my porch...I tried to take him to a no-kill shelter, they didn't have room, and I ended up keeping him for myself...turned out to be a good cat, although he was hell on wheels at first.

Dave Russell Oh, by the way the my first post on the "Not Bill Agrees With Me" thread tomorrow will be all about how dogs are superior to cats.

message 13: by Lori (new)

Lori Lorena, see if the Animal Control and Humane Society are no kill shelters. You can put up a flyer at pet supply store too.

The cats might be shy of you now, but once they see you are the one feeding them, you might able to get close enough to get them.

My 2 kitties were rejected by their feral mother and were fostered by a friend of mine. She said there were 2 other kitties but she couldn't get them. I often think of them.

Not Bill | 1061 comments Bring it on Dave..oh...D'oh! It's 12:01 PST and Iron Chef America is on. Dave, it's been my life's observation that dogs are indeed superior to cats. Please share more of your thoughts and I'll be happy to (ack, fthhhhhhhhhhhhhp!) as well.
