Aeba sat against the cold wall. The room creaked and groaned, leaving eerie silences around her. The windows were shattered, and shards of glass lay scattered across the floor, letting in a cold, bitter breeze that cut at her fingers.
((Ah, sure, but I'm reading a mega assignment and it may take a while to respond.))It was cold, but Kyou had long since gotten used to that. Or rather, he told himself he had and forced down discomfort when it tore ravenously at him as a result of the icy atmosphere. He had to creep, as usual, because one could never be too careful and life here relied on being silent. He longed to straighten and charge through this broken city, but he couldn't. He just couldn't. So he continued on slowly, watching the long-dead and crumpled leaves wash over his path with the breeze.
Aeba leaned forward and reached into her pack, pulling out a piece of old dried meat that seemed impossible to bite through.
Ash lay on the floor of one of the buildings. The gray dust had settled itself in her hair and made it turn ghostly. She sat up and coughed, looking at her breath come out in small white clouds.
But still, she enjoyed it. The fact that she even had food pleased her stomach. But Aeba thought about times, times before the war, when food was something you didn't have to fight for.
He passed a concrete building that seemed near to falling apart and stopped to stare up at it. There were plenty of small hiding holes created by the fissures in its sides in case hiding inside became dangerous...it seemed perfect. There were even square holes in the walls, like windows, which was a luxury Kyou was willing to take a chance for. There was nothing he hated more than being cooped up in airless, lightless places.
Aeba pulled herself up from the ground and stretched her stiff legs. After she had finished packing her stuff, she swung her pack over her shoulder. She took a look out of the shattered window and saw a man standing below her, looking up at the building across from hers. She became still and watched the guy curiously, interested in what his intentions were and who he was. He was obviously alone.
Ash was outside now. She hid under an awning then slowly wandered out into the clearing. Then she ran to one of the buildings across the way.
Akira walked through more rubble and coughed as dust flew into her mouth. She remembered before the war people would try to help you keep the dust away. Now every stayed away from each other. Anyone could be a scavenger. She continued walking some more saw a man staring at a building and walked up to him. "So are you gonna go in it?" She asked him. Akira was sick of having no friends and was willing to risk this man being a scavenger. She hated being alone.
Chaha'oh waited in a hollow between several slabs of rubble as his rifle charged via the folding solar panel he had placed outside. He wondered if there was anyone in the area who was a friendly.
Ash grabbed Crabe by the back of his shirt and dragged him inside the hotel. "What were you doing? Did you want them to hear you?"
"The... well, I don't know what they are. But they're still here, and they want to destroy the remaining bits of the planet along with the survivors."
Aeba saw Akira walk up to Kyou and she watched their encounter, seeing there was no a threat to her. They were survivors of the ruins and she had no interest in them. All she cared about was to survive, and inviting in trouble made things worse.
Caha'oh glanced over the top of the hollow and spotted a single scavenger creeping over the ruins. He grined and grabb up his rifle and plugged in the power source. He pressed a solid aluminum slug into the breech and leveled the rifle. the hollow thump of the mag rifle going off was followed by the loud crack of the impact and the scavenger's head vanished in a fine pink mist and a splash of red behind its body.
Ash let go of Crabe angrily and walked up the stairs to find a room. She eventually found one and settled herself on the cot.
Kyou cursed under his breath. He was so sure, in that instant, that it was someone dangerous. A scavenger. He whirled, already drawing one of his rusted, broken knives as he did so. He stared tensely at the newcomer, judging who they were. He couldn't just attack if they were a survivor, but there was a good chance that his life was in danger. "Who are you?" He demanded, his usual greeting recently.
Ash walked down the dusty hallway until she found a bathroom. She turned on the faucet, waiting for the tinking noise to cease. The water slowly came at first, then poured out as if no one had used it in years.Probably true, she thought to herself.
She pulled her long black hair into her hand and dropped her head under the faucet. The water was cool and refreshing though it tasted metallic.
"Um My name is Akira. I see you use knives too." She said as she noticed the other person's tense posture. She then laughed. "I'm not a scavenger. I'm just sick of being alone. Your the first person I've seen in forever. Um, So who are you?"
Caha'oh plugged his rilfe in to the solar panel once more, and ducked back in to his hide. He would have to move soon, or the scavengers might find him. He drew out one of his knives and begand to sharpen it. The gentel scrape of stone on steel calmed him as he waited.
Ash went to her room and sat on the cot, the springs squeaking loudly. She rummaged through her old backpack and found her gun. She lay it underneath her pillow and moved her head into a position so it wasn't on top of it. She shut her eyes and relaxed.
Ash awoke to something scratching quietly at her door. She grabbed her gun and stood up, ready to shoot.
The lock on the door jiggled, and she got ready. The door flew open. It was a scavenger.
Ash shot at its head and it fell to the floor in a crumpled heap.
She folded the gun in the depths of her coat, picked up her bag, and stepped over the body calmly. She walked to the door of the hotel and quickly ran outside.
