Does Sean Connery play Brother William well? How does the abbey measure up to the description?

The movie is certainly full of enough grit and dirt to be believable for the medieval period.

I'd have to re-watch the movie. It seemed that the movie ended differently than the novel and also abridged it's details. Sean Connery and the other actors were mostly excellent in my opinion.

I rewatched it recently and found that a young Christian Slater looks eerily like James Marshall from his "Twin Peaks" period. He played James Hurley.

How does the movie experience compare to reading the book? I wonder if they could condense well enough and concentrate on the mystery without everything else to slog through...

The actors are great and the scenes are great. It's the story that's the problem in my opinion. They've cut it way too much, and the whole thing is kind of ridiculous I think..!
But I loved the Book! :D
