Since Goodreads is about books let's have some sailing oriented book recommendations, fiction or none.

Sounds great! A little while back I finished up Dead Run by Tony Gibbs; the sailing passages were excellent though I thought his female protagonist's actions at times were a bit plot-driven and unconvincing. Still, vastly better than Patterson's Sail which I put down very shortly after starting. The characters are dreadful and the sailing... well, let's just say this man didn't even have enough of a clue to do his research. The first chapter of my book Last Exit In New Jersey takes place under sail, much of the story is set aboard boats and around boatyards and the two main characters are both full-time liveaboards.
I'd love to hear any good sailing/boating recommendations; my TBR list is getting short!
Shameless plug: If you are looking for a last minute Christmas gift for a sailor friend (or yourself) check out my novel, Sex, Lies & Spinnakers. It's basically a murder mystery wrapped in a sea adventure. There is also a GoodReads Giveaway for it this month with two books up for grabs.
Looks like this topic has been dead for awhile but The Long Way by Bernard Moitessier and Maiden Voyage by Tania Alba are two of my favorites.Voyage for Madmen is pretty incredible as well.

Yeah, Lance, we need more members to increase the frequency of posts. Spread the word to your sailing friends.
Based on your selections, and if you like humor, you might also like Reaching Port: A Montana Couple Sails Around The World. I laughed out loud several times while reading this years ago. May be hard to find though.

Joining the discussion sometime after it has stopped - but thought I'd add my two-pennies worth . . . and give a shout out about my book Cruisers' AA (accumulated acumen)- published last year - details at www.jackieparry.com. It contains over 1,800 tips/tricks/advice & ideas, with short stories. Just finding my way around Goodreads, so any advice there appreciated! Fair winds.
Hi Jackie, thanks for checking in with the Sailing group. When I clicked your link I did not see anything at that website (parrie.com) about your book.
Do you have a GoodReads page you could share?

Hi Steve, thanks so much for letting me know. I actually put an extra . in the address(!). I think am having a senior moment. It is www.jackieparry.com. I do have a GoodReads page to share, just figuring out how to attach it (and finish it!) - thanks for getting in touch.
You guys might want to check out How the Winds Laughed by Addie Greene--basically she and her husband sailed around the world in a P28--the trip took almost three years--twice as long as anticipated. A story of guts and grit and a sense of the absurd. It totally educated me in island geography, by the way.
Hi Molly, thanks for the tip - I will check it out. My book which includes details of our sailing trip around the world (9 years) is almost complete, it will be out this year. It is about our journey, but also about a woman's journey (me), how my life completely changed when someone died and how I knew nothing of boats (not the front end or back end)!, all the way through to becoming a professional skipper. Our latest book Cruisers' AA (accumulated acumen) is out, this contains over 1,800 tips, tricks, advice and ideas of living on board. All details on www.jackieparry.com
Hi Guys, Just wished to share a new feature on my blog called the Logbook Tales where I'll feature stories taken from my flying and sailing logbooks.http://www.bequiamysteries.com/blog/
I also include many sailing passages in the Bequia Mysteries, which is set in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and involves a protagonist living on a staysail schooner. http://www.bequiamysteries.com

Flag 9: Written by a liveaboard sailor, Flag 9 is a nautical zombie tale that shakes up the played-out genre. Happy Halloween! http://www.amazon.com/Flag-9-AG-Rives...
Hi all, I am new to Goodreads, to this group and to so many things as I self-published a children book which is now available on Amazon https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8....

Merlin's Voyage
Le Voyage de Merlin
Hey everyone! My horror novel Pandora is set aboard a cruise ship. I began writing it while sailing aboard the Carnival Magic and partially based the layout on the real vessel. Check it out if you're interested!10% of this product’s profits help fund ocean exploration
Evil is rising. Shortly after retrieving a survivor from the ill-fated research vessel La Magia, cruise ship Emerald Rose mysteriously disappears. But evil isn’t content to stay lost forever. The ship reemerges a week later transmitting a single word—Pandora—prompting business tycoon Patrick Carver to send out a team to investigate.
He seeks out Aubrey Pittenger for reasons beyond her. She’s not a soldier or a rescuer, just a doctor who spent the last year suffering from the loss of her little girl. Yet when Carver makes her an offer she can’t refuse, she finds herself hurtling toward the crumbling ship and the dark things that flit through its once elegant hallways.
Mercenary Julian Eduardo receives a similar offer. Having lived most of his life on one battlefield or another, he now fights to ensure his little brother Ricardo won’t have to follow in his blood soaked footsteps.
But all is not as it seems aboard the Emerald Rose, and evil comes in many forms. Carver’s cutthroat team will have to band together if they hope to survive the night and find the essence of hope, the hope they’ve all been searching for, the distant promise at the bottom of Pandora’s Box.
Available on Amazon!
