Sony Reader discussion
Which Sony Reader?
The 650 is really nice. I got one last week with a free light cover and I really enjoy it. I had a 505 before the 650.
I started with a 505, sold it, bought a Kindle 3 when it launched. Didn't like it. Sold it after a month in order to buy a 650. :)
Hello! I have a PRS-600! Love it, but I want to upgrade now...waiting on a possible color sony? I sent Sony and email asking if they were coming out with one soon....They wouldnt answer :-(
I have a PRS 900. My hubby got it for me last year. Love reading with it but think I might want to upgrade. Hmmmm...

I have... well, will have... well, have the 650. I am waiting for it to arrive :D
I got a gorgeous pink pocket edition (PRS 350) for Christmas. I just started playing with it. So far I love it! :)
I have the 900, bought it last year. Didn't even know they had a new one out, but that figures, they will always be upgrading them.I have heard good and bad about each one, I think it is best to find out what a person wants to do with it, then find the one that best provides that.
I had wanted the 900 because of the touch screen, it was big enough for me to easily see which buttons did what, LOL, yet small enough to fit inside my purse. It has plenty of room for books, and if I wanted I could get online.
Each have their pros and cons.
I just got the prs-300 from my kids for christmas. it was sort of an experiment because they didn't know if i'd like not having paper in my hand. but so far i love it.
I just got a Silver Pocket PRS-350 this week. I love it so far. I am using it to read NetGalley books and am going to go get a library card this week so I can use it for library books too. :)
I also have a PRS-300 that I got about a year ago. The only problem I have with it is the leaps and bounds by which my TBR list is growing. lol
Got a 350 a week ago and haven't put it down since. Looked at getting a kindle but it was ugly and wouldn't fit in my pocket so I opted for Sony's little gem.Very happy I did ;D
I did the same thing PJ. I have a 300. Its doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the kindle but it does exactly what I want it to do, allow me to read my favorite books.
Hi! I'm kind of new to this group. I'm having a PRS650 for a month now, and offered the 350 to my boyfriend for christmas (he kind of…tried it for us!). I'm so happy, that's very convinient and easy to use.
I bought myself a PRS-505 like, 3 years ago, and it still works today, with only one scratch across the top (not very deep). My mom uses it now, and she loves it. About 2 months ago I bought myself a Reader Daily Edition PRS-950SC, and I love it!! I think it's Sony that makes the best e-readers. They last forever. I trust Sony products the most. I have a 4 GB SD card in it and a 8 GB MemoryStick in it (I am an available space fanatic). I love Sony products.
I have the PRS-300. I've had it for almost two years and I still LOVE IT! I use it all the time and couldnt live without it! :)
I have a PRS-505 and love it. It's survived some hard knocks and travels with me in my purse everywhere I go. I like the screen size and the fact that the display is e-ink without a touch overlay. I worry that I won't be able to find a replacement with those features, so I hope Sony doesn't orphan it!
PRS-650 owner here. I really like this reader and once I get PRS+ on it and figure out a way to modify the software to my liking, I'll probably never put it down.
PRS+ is a firmware enhancement for SONY Readers which seamlessly integrates extra functionality into the default UI while at the same time, having it all be fully configurable. The two main reasons that I installed it was the change the default keybindings for the Size and OPTIONS buttons when I was reading a book and the fonts that I used. I have the single press of the Size button set to Prev. page and a single press of the OPTIONS button set to Next page. Long-pressing either of the buttons while reading a book brings up the default action they are originally set to (font size menu and options menu respectively). The fonts can be changed via a custom CSS file placed on the PRS-650's main storage that PRS+ can then call upon when displaying a book (I have yet to test this with books in formats other than ePub though).
You would first need to update the PRS-650's firmware to 1.0.00.14080 with the updater located on this page: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-... and then install PRS+ using the installer from this page: http://code.google.com/p/prs-plus/dow...
Installing the official firmware update and the latest PRS+ hasn't erased any of my notes or bookmarks but your mileage may vary.

I have the 950, I bought it 3months ago and I have to say that I love it so far!
So I'm thinking about a Sony for my birthday. I'm using my husbands 600 at the moment and I'm finding it really easy to use. But I do find it a bit cumbersome to hold in my hands especially in bed.Does anyone know just how much smaller the 350 is compared to the 600. Will it's smaller screen get on my nerves? Also has anyone bought the covers that make it more book like with the cute light? Are they any good?

That said the resolution of the screens are the same so you'll end up with a sharper display despite the smaller screen which I believe you'll enjoy.
As for the covers, I only have an official non-lighted cover which I don't use anymore so I can't comment very much on that.

I'm wondering how the new T1 compares as well. The plastic of T1 makes me hesitant to switch but I would love to hear if this bothersome or not really an issue.
The plastic is not really an issue with me. The T1 is very well put together and feels great when I am hiolding it to read. It is light as a feather and I appreciate that with WiFi I can get books from all my favorite places. You can also borrow directly from the library as the books are transferred directly to your device. There have been reports of people experiencing rapid page turns. I have never had that happen to me, but that is something that Sony acknowledged they are looking in to. I do not see any finger prints on my reader, but I am very careful with it. I had heard that people were worried about the glare off of the plastic. This has not been an issue for me in various different light situations. The fonts on the screen look crisper to me and you have more of a selection, unless you have installed PRS+The only bad thing I will mention is that I have not been impressed with any of the covers I have seen available. I am looking for a nice cover. but the ones that I have seen or read about so far have not measured up to what I want to cover my T1 in.
If there are any more questions you may have, just let me know.
Check out http://medgestore.com/ for a case. That's where I got my case for my prs-300 and I love it! :) I like the Executive Jacket! :)
I have a one year old PRS-650 and it still is my favourite reader. The newest Kobo's and Kindles I have seen in Indigo Books do not even come close in screen refresh and I feel the Sony construction is more rugged.

I've just ordered a PRS-T1 with a light cover for myself. Can't wait for it to arrive! It'll be my first e-book reader so I'm really exited.

I started with the PRS-505 (Christmas gift from wife). Then traded for PRS-300. Now, I have a PRS-650. Love them all!
