Just finished this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. I grew up in the Niagara Falls areas so I was familiar with the location and the legends. I thought the photos in the book really enhanced the story. The characters were very real to me and continue to be in my thoughts even though I finished the book. I was appalled to learn that the water currently going over the falls is 50% of what it was before the power plants. The falls must have been incredibly forceful as it is still very impressive.
What is the best balance between progress and nature? We have to face that question all the time. We need nature to restore our souls and keep us in touch with the natural rhythms of life. On the other had I love my electricity.

I really liked how Bess found herself not fitting in with either the rich or the poor after her marriage. That felt very real to me.

Marsha, I hears rfom seniors in Niagara Falls all the time that the thunder isn't what it used to be, that the earth doesn't shake as it once did. I'm reasonably satisfied with the current diverion arrangement. The falls are still wondrous after all. I do worry about what lays in store for Niagara Falls. Thanks. I wanted to portray a real marriage, one with conflict, such the Bess's and Tom's differing opinions about hydroelectricity and also there roots in different classes.
