I'd buy it. Plus with Amazon adopting book lending for their Kindles, B&N will need something new and better to remain competitive.

I'm not sure if I'll like the new nook. I tend to dislike change. haha Every time I have an update, it takes me forever to get over the changes. Haha
Well, I won't buy it - have no problem with black and white, but it does look like fun. I wouldn't buy it when it first comes out, anyway, as new products typically have bugs. But good for B&N! I used to be a big fan of Amazon, but recently they've done some crappy stuff, and since getting my Nook I shop mostly at B&N unless Amazon has something they don't have.
My dad was really excited when I told him about it, but he loves new gadgets to mess with.
Well I normally buy the newest thing to come to life. So...that means I will probably buy it.
I'm fine with the one I have, my books aren't in color..LOL
I love it when there are major players like Barnes and Noble and Amazon competing for my attention in a space I dearly love. We all win!
They are coming out with a software update to 1.5. Wonder if that will be what they will announce?
I would hope the new software is the announcement, but if it's a tablet... I don't really mind. So long as they aren't announcing a new nook device, I'm good. I'm just afraid that if a new nook comes out the earlier models won't get any love.
They have already announced the Software, so I doubt it would be a main event topic, maybe a side note.
Wow - that looks awesome! I love my nook and can't wait to get a nook color! I won't upgrade though until my current nook breaks or B&N stops supporting it...by then the bugs should be all worked out :)
A colour tablet would be nice. Not sure about the battery life though.The picture they show is not the new Nook, it is the other new colour display mentioned in the add. it looks cool though.
I had problems of checking into my B&N tomorrow since I'll be out that way. I want to see if any good in store stuff is out for this month since I haven't been out there this month yet.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think now this is going to be backlit without the Mirasol screen speculated about in the article. And therefore the battery life will probably be terrible. I think I'll hold on to my good old original Nook for now. But I wish them luck.As a side note, I love all the outraged posts about people who "just bought their nook a few months ago" and want some kind of trade-in program. What I want to know -- do these people live in the real world? LOL!
It seems B&N is now in the tablet computer business. I think the e-ink screen is what gives the Nook an advantage. The Nook Color must compete more directly with the iPad and all the other tablet devices flooding the market. Not that this is bad, but B&N will be devoting more resources to non-eBook functionality.
I dunno, but when you're reading a book, who cares about color? Not me. Color covers are nice to look at but I can live without that.
Ugh!!!! One thing I hate about technology is that when you get something in the next year the next newer and better one will be out! Well I put it in for my Christmas NEED list! Maybe I will get it if not then maybe I will have to wait and see if I get an end of the year bonus. :)Plus I think I want to wait and see if Best Buy will get it. It is pretty much where I buy everything.
The NookColor is similar to an iPad and the screen is LCD.I prefer the e-ink while reading. So I will pass on the NookColor.
Several color ereaders have recently come on the market in addition to the iPad. Borders offers one. The PanDigital has B&N installed, so I am guessing that B&N books will transfer easily. Tou can see a list here:

I am also disappointed to have purchased the Nook only to find it immediately out of date. I may sell mine and buy one of the others, possibly the PanVision. Undecided atnthis time.
It's not out of date, it's just a different eReader. The two devices shouldn't be viewed as the same thing but different versions. They are two completely different devices.
Yeah, I am not jumping on the bandwagon. If I wanted an iPad, I may be tempted to buy a NookColor. I will definitely stick to my nook with the e-ink screen. :)
I bought my Nook for reading. I don't need all of the extras. That is what my computer is for. Also, my Nook has 3G which you can't even get with the NookColor. I wouldn't even consider it until it came with 3G.
I have no use for 3G, so that's not a factor for me. I love my iPad and love reading on it. However, it is too heavy for comfortable extended reading for me. I was originally looking for something liked an iPad for an ereader that was smaller and lighter. So the Nook Color is very close to what I wanted.

Undecided atnthis time. "It's not "out-of-date." B&N is still selling the Nook E-Ink models. I think they are being smart and targeting several audiences with a range of devices. The E-Ink is clearly aimed at the moderate to heavy-readers of long-format text. The LCD is aimed at magazine, newspaper, Kids, and light to moderate novel usage.
Hopefully it sells well and B&N does well with NOOKbooks - more for all of us to read!

I just got my nook in september..and I'm fine with it. The only thing that I'm envious about is the all touch screen. Oh well...I'll upgrade when this one goes, but not before..and I'm certainly not paying $249 for it. I do have a question though..I'm excited about the software upgrade coming, what do I need to do to get that on my nook?

The software update is via manual download, available here or, for NOOKs connected to Wi-Fi®, via automatic download. (Note: This update will not be distributed via the 3G network.) For an automatic Wi-Fi® update, you may need to tap 'Check for new B&N content' in the My Library area in order to initiate the update.
I do think that it is incredibly smart for Barnes and Noble to be targeting a variety of costumers by providing both models. I'll be keeping my E-ink screen. If I need to look at anything else, I'll just use my computer. The nice little gadgets are nice, but I love the nook I have.
Maybe at a later date, but I won't be buying into the NookColor anytime soon.

I guess because I am almost always near a WI-FI connection I do not personally see the need for 3G. Do you pay a monthly fee for that? Thanks :o)

Do you pay a monthly fee for that? Thanks :o)"I bought my Nook when it only came as WiFi+3G and I am glad I did. Now this is the $200 model. When I am not near WiFi, I still have access with the 3G. Therefore, I pretty much always have access. The 3G is FREE.
I held off getting my Nook for a month or two wondering whether B&N would release a new version - because this always seems to happen with me on product purchases and a new version or model is released soon after. The B&N sales associates reminded me that even if a new product was released the current version would continue to get free updates to enhance it. So, I went ahead and purchased my Nook wifi and I have to say that I've been very, very happy with it. The new features on the new Color Nook look great: the new touchscreen is awesome and I love the idea of having Pandora radio to listen to and reading books to my granddaughter either in portrait or landscape format. I love that they added crosswords and more to come they say and wow all that memory now. I don't really need another web browser since I can do web searches on my computer, but the social network aspect does sound fun. I just bought my Nook in September so I won't be buying this Color Nook - yet! : >
I think $299 is a bit pricey. Maybe they will offer a ColorNook later that is 3G only. Or, iPad might come out in a smaller, lighter version. I prefer the backlight of the iPad, so I would probably like the ColorNook. I haven't found eyestrain to be a problem, especially since you can adjust the level of brightness.
I hope the software update will let us make folders or collections! That's one thing I did like about the Kindle. Keeping my fingers crossed.

It is only $249.
True! My bad. $249 is still $100 higher than the non-color Nook and $80 higher than the color Pandigital or panvision, I can't keep the name straight, and the color Cruz. That's alot of ebooks. Sorry for the edits. I'm all thumbs today. LOL

they pandigital is not worth it. picture is great but the touch screen sometime flips more than one page. the browser is really slow.

Its fun to go back in time and see what people were thinking before the nookColor came out. Just curious but did any of you purchase the color after all and if so, what do you think of it?
I LOVE mine. And the update makes it even more awesome. My home computer is being used all the time and is SO slow. My nook is awesome for quick searches and what not. There are only a few things that I miss from my computer and a keyboard is the major one.
