If you find any great websites to get ebooks at... let us know the website! :)

BTW, a great way to get free ebooks is through your library. Many libraries have ebooks available to download in multiple formats. :)

If you like Science fiction www.baen.com has a free library with many popular authors like David Weber, John Ringo etc. that offer free ebooks in various formats.

Patricia (pg4003) | 148 comments I like DailyCheapReads.com, but they are Kindle books only. They list any free books offered every day, as well as bargain books.

stormhawk | 1184 comments The Gutenberg Project has upgraded their website to have files ready to read on a variety of devices ... they have epub, mobi, pdf, and a bunch of others, you just have to click the format for your device, transfer it with your cables, and you're reading.

All of Gutenberg is public domain, which means free and legal.

I also use the Baen Free Library.

Rowena (tirilien) I'm just wondering if anyone has come across an English translation of La Reine Margot - Alexander Dumas (Queen Margot) as an ebook. I have found several versions, including free versions in French but none in English.

I appreciate any ideas! I don't mind if it's free or I have to pay for it. Thanks!

Jackie (thenightowl) Rowena, do you have a nook? It's available for free at the B&N site: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Quee...

Here are some more freebie sites:
http://manybooks.net/language.php?cod...
http://www.feedbooks.com/

Both have mostly classics. Manybooks.net also has foreign language books...if you click on languages you can choose there.

Also, don't forget that GR also has en ebooks section: http://www.goodreads.com/ebooks

Rowena (tirilien) Jackie,

Thanks, I'll check the sites you've provided. Unfortunately, lots of Nook books are only available in the US and I'm in Australia, this being one of them. Also, I've an eReader (Sony) only just noticed this forum is specifically Nook. Sorry for the incorrect posting!

This thread is much more of a general ebook website list. It's okay to post here if you don't have a Nook, because it's just websites with ebooks. ;)

Jackie (thenightowl) Rowena, ah ok I see the problem :) I did a quick search of the sites I provided but I don't see Queen Margot. However, I did find a pdf copy of The Forty-Five Guardsmen, which says it includes Queen Margot. I've never ordered from this site before though: http://ebooks.ebookmall.com/ebook/180...

Hope that helps you.

Helen Hi, I've only just looked in here as I thought it was Nook only. Lots of super suggestions, looking forward to loading my lovely, shiny Kindle.

I really do like my kindle - as I'm sure you gathered!

message 12: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments Very cool! I like my Kindles, too. (K1, KDXg and K3wifi) Which one do you have?

message 13: by Helen (new)

Helen Kindle 3 - wifi. Do you use all of yours, do you load different genres on them?

message 14: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments The K1 has become an "in case of severe emergency" back up device. I mainly use the K3wifi, and keep the KDXg in my bed because I can changes pages less frequently. I also use the KDXg for unconverted .pdf files, although I'm often reading the same book on it in .pdf as I am on the K3 in .mobi format. I use Calibre for conversions. It's not simple to use, but can be figured out with just a little work and does a pretty good job.

message 15: by Helen (new)

Helen I've downloaded Calibre but not investigated it yet.

Helen I've been getting books straight from amazon - particularly in the sale.

Maria Schneider (bearmountainbooks) | 111 comments Books on the Knob posts bargains for Nook, Sony and Kindle.

DailyCheapReads handles Kindle in the US, has a sister site for the UK and one for "junior" reads which includes YA and younger (middle school and even childrens I think.)

Anne | 9 comments BargaineReader www.bargainereader.com posts books for Kindle and Nook.

BargaineBookHunter www.bargainebookhunter.com posts books from free to $2.99. (Edit: Just found out today that this site is also now doing Nook titles.)

Donna (ljldml) | 8 comments pixelofink.com lists all free and bargain kindle books

They're pretty good, but last time I was out there, they only did 99 cents and free. Are they doing all bargain books now (under what?)

message 22: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) Passion in Print http://www.passioninpring.com has mostly erotica, but lots of other kinds of romance too.

message 23: by Maria (new)

Maria Schneider (bearmountainbooks) | 111 comments www.smashwords.com is running a big sale this month. All genres; some free, some up to 75 percent off. I downloaded this great free short story:

https://www.smashwords.com/books/view...

It's short, it's free, but it's easily worth free!
:>)

message 24: by Nancy (new)

Nancy I get my books at http://the-cheap.net/ If you have Facebook they also have pages for romances, inspirational books, children's books and YA books. The links are all on the right hand of the main page.
