RandomAnthony | 14536 comments What's the scariest movie ever?

(besides that one of Kevin and me dancing on the speakers at that Sarah McLachlan, concert, I mean.)

Ok, I can't remember which one of the "Dead" zombies movies it was, but the one from a few years back with Sarah Polly, set in Wisconsin, with the fast zombies...the first fifteen minutes of that scared the SHIT out of me.

You?

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Oh, and the NY Times has a good article on that new "Walking Dead" zombie thing starting Sunday on tv...

Alien
Night of the Living Dead
The Exorcist
The Omen
The Birds

message 4: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments original omen still is scary to me. original halloween still makes me jump even though i know mikey myers is around the corner and original psycho still has that psychological scariness to it.

side note: we were not slow dancing. i started to fall and RA caught me and held me for a sec to make sure i had my balance

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Scariest movie ever: The proposed Justin Bieber biopic.

RA, that's the Dawn of the Dead remake you're thinking of, directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen); I thought it was surprisingly great, and one of the few remakes that's just as good as the original.

And I am ridiculously excited over The Walking Dead. I loved the graphic novel series, and the trailers have been nothing short of fantastic.

Had no idea, Gus. I loved that series as well. Should make for a VERY grim (read: great) flick.

ms.petra (mspetra) why 2 threads for the same topic? it is dejavu all over again....

Jim | 6484 comments I vote with Kevin's Omen and Halloween.

I think he held you in place a little too long for it just to be so you could get your balance :)

message 9: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments when he whispered in my ear "let's put on a show" i thought he meant me continuing to pretend to lose my balance

message 10: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Oh the naivete of Indiana :)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments The Ring freaked me out, especially since I was watching a videotaped copy of it.

message 12: by Andy (new)

Andy | 5 comments Signs made me wet my pants with fear. Having said that nobody else seems to find it scary...

The start of Day of the Dead, gave me a small heart attack!

Yeah, the original "Omen" and "Halloween" get my vote as the scariest films ever. Both have that real creepy, stomach-tensing factor.

message 14: by Harry (new)

Harry (harry_harry) | 226 comments Jack Nicholson is awesome in The Shining.

The Ring is F'ed up!

message 15: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimie476) | 664 comments The original Amityville Horror scared the crap out of me. It was all about the music and the two attic windows that looked like eyes. I grew up in Philadelphia and that type of house was common.

The first Halloween doesn't exactly scare me but that music again!

The original Nightmare on Elm Street scared me when it first came out. Now I just see it as the brilliant movie that it is.

The Ring scared me because I have a serious phoebia of deformed/mutilated faces. That first shot of seeing the first victims face had me hiding my eyes for the rest of the movie...until they realized how they could stop the curse. REALLY?

Jim | 6484 comments In case I didn't respond with your first post, welcome to TC Andy.

The Ring was awesome. For some reason that scene with the horse on the ferry was most terrifying for me.

Also very scary:
The Omen
Deliverance

message 20: by Michael (new)

Michael I thought Audition was a pretty scary movie. Also liked The Exorcist, Jaws, Psycho, Night of the Hunter and Sorry, Wrong Number.

message 21: by Jan (new)

Jan | 241 comments For me, Nightmare on Elm Street.
For my children, Rosemary's Baby.

Is that the Barbara Walters biopic?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I also agree with The Ring and The Omen.

The original Nightmare on Elm Street scared the crap out of me as a kid because of that "1...2...Freddy's coming for you... song.

The original Friday the 13th scared me as well just because I was so young the first time I saw it.

message 24: by janine (new)

Ha! Okay, I might have a new scariest movie ever now!

message 26: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (bonfiggi) I was frightened by "W."

I tried but I could'nt even sit through the first 1/2 hour.

message 28: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca White (rebecca_white) | 1027 comments To really scare me, it has to have an element of the supernatural. I am a huge horror movie fan and most of them don't bother me at all after they're over, but the ones that start making me feel nervy just remembering them are: The Ring, Candyman, Paranormal Activity, Blair Witch, and most of all, The Excorcist.

I saw Halloween again this week. I like the beginning of it when it's setting things up, but once all the running around starts, it just doesn't do much for me. And it's fucking irritating that TWICE Jamie Lee Curtis gets the knife and drops it right next to the unconscious Michael Myers. TWICE! Even if I thought he was dead (after making damn sure of it) I'd keep the knife with me.

message 29: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) For me the scariest movie ever was The Shining with Jack Nicholson.

My favorite ghost story was "Ghost Story" with Fred Astair, Melvyn Douglas, Douglas Fairbanks Jr, and John Houseman.

message 30: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) When I was about 8 my older cousin took me to see a double feature of Return of the Fly, and Alligator People. They scared the living crap out of my 8 yo self.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) The second picture just looks sexual to me.

message 32: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) It probably was, Stacia -- but my 8 yo mind didn't recognize it as such.

Both are classics, Larry.

message 34: by James (new)

James (m0gb0y74) | 54 comments As I am a complete arachnaphobe Arachnaphobia gave me the absolute willies for weeks. I just watched Paranormal Activity earlier on this week and that gave me shivers up my spine - it's so underplayed for the most part it's fantastic.

message 35: by Aynge (new)

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments My mother let me watch The Exorcist on television when I was ten. I'll never forgive her for that. Okay, it was edited for television, ie, the crucifix scene, along with many other parts, were cut out. But I still couldn't sleep for 3 months.

This is probably why almost every other horror movie I've scene just makes me laugh or shake my head in pity. Evil Dead? Nightman on Elm Street? Halloween? Gimme a break! Kid's stuff. So FAKE. Puh-LEEZE.

Yes, as an adult, I did see the entire, unedited, complete-with-spider-walking-scene version of The Exorcist, which only seemed even scarier than I remembered. WHY? Why did I watch it? Holy CRAP!

Okay, Paranormal Activity was sort of scary. As was Aliens. But as I look back upon Aliens I have to admit that I loved it more for the ass-kicking tam of Ellen Ripley and the US Marines than the monster, whose inner-jaw really seems like it was built from an Erector set, doesn't it?

message 36: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (lesslie) Blair Witch Project and the EXorcist (which I loved when I was a kid, but have become totally wussy in my dotage)

message 37: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments The next scariest movie after "The Exorcist" was either "Jaws" or "Legion". The thought of being some shark's breakfast was very frightening as was the thought of getting my body hijacked after death by some scary, serial killer freak.

message 38: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Wait Until Dark
Night of the Living Dead (original)
Blair Witch Project

message 39: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments the original "Alien". that scene with the alien bursting through John Hurt's stomack scared the daylights out of me!

message 40: by Jane (new)

Jane I'm like King Dinosaur. I'm a fan of the horror genre, so it takes a lot to scare me. I will say that The Ring the holy bejesus out of me, and I Am Legend gave me nightmares for WEEKS. The Alien series I find scary because of the utter badassness of the aliens, and I would say that Poltergeist and the Exorcist are up there for respectable horror flicks. And Silent Hill was really creepy because of the ingenuity of the monsters, very well-designed.

message 41: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11846 comments What's the one that's set somewhere really cold where body parts grow legs of their own and scoot around? Is that "The Thing?" Creepy when I saw it.

Scariest was probably Jaws, because I was about 13 when I saw it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Seven was kinda creepy.

janine | 7709 comments i feel like i've answered this question here before. i thougt the original alien was scary, the girl next door (not the one about the hot neighbour) was very disturbing.

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments Has anyone seen the trailer for "Cowboys and Aliens"? I saw it when I went to see the Harry Potter movie. Harrison Ford as a villain? Obviously a summer blockbuster kind of movie. Put out by Dreamworks and Steven Spielburg. I'll probably go.

He was a villian in "What Lies Beneath", too. The movie wasn't so great, but was good as a bad guy.
