If you like steampunk romance, then you might enjoy :
I only gave Soulless 3 stars (it was good but not a grabber), but I know several people that LOVE this series, so it might just be that I didn't fully appreciate it.
If you like Victorian era fiction, this might be your cup of tea.
I've only read Soulless of the Parasol Protectorate series and I actually enjoyed The Iron Duke more....but I did rate both books 4 stars. These steampunk books are definitely different so it does take some getting use to if you haven't read anything in this genre yet.
I actually like Steampunk, but Soulless didn't feel Steampunk enough to me (or PNR for that matter, since it was a collision with PNR).
I've only read Soulless and Iron Duke in this genre. So I don't have anything else to compare it to. Both these books were interesting to me b/c everything was all new and different. Are there any other Steampunk books that you liked, Stacia?
I read Soulless and Blameless and I have Changeless (yes, read it out of order - got hold of Blameless first and couldn't be bothered to wait an extra week for Changeless to get delivered!) and The Iron Duke in my TBR pile.I found that Gail Carriger just couldn't decide whether or not she wanted her writing to sound Victorian English or modern day American. Blameless killed my desire to read Changeless, though, when she had an upperclass English gentlewoman whittering on about "ladybugs" for several pages in a row. They're not called ladybugs in British English and they never, ever have been. They're ladybirds and Carriger's research should have allowed her at least that much information - or she's not doing it right. There's nothing more annoying than reading a story set in Britain but written in American and, unfortunately, you see it a lot.
I only have the first one, and I haven't picked it up yet.. I will, because I own it.. But I am not overly rushed to do so.
Kay wrote: "Are there any other Steampunk books that you liked, Stacia?..."I really enjoyed Clockwork Angel, but it is YA (although it does have a romantic love triangle).
, but I am in love with anything Cassandra Clare writes, so I knew that I'd love this one.Next up in steampunk for me will be
(which is not romance, just YA steampunk), and I really do hope to get to
(which we already know is adult romance), but I had to put in a request for my library to buy it.At some point I might try
and
.
Steampunk does seems to the be the it genre at the moment. I am hoping to read Scott Westerfeld soon, I own The Iron Duke, and I just read Clockwork Angel and though thought it was excellent!
Steam Punk Steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian era Britain—that incorporates prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy.
EX: The Iron Duke
I got this from the Lisa Keypas Group genre discussion, they are great with detail, lol

I loved Soulless but she lost me with the other 2. I think she forgot the romance in book 2&3.
Just fininshed the Iron Duke. I can't say enough it is AMAZING. Has anyone read it yet? Stacia -- you mentioned on the other thread -- that you're waiting for the book. Hope you get it soon so we can chat.

I actually have the book, but challenge reads (and a couple of new releases) have made me push this to the back. I hope to get to it SOON though.
I must have different tastes to everyone here. I enjoyed Soulless but not enough to read the other two books in the series, and I struggled to finish The Iron Duke. I just couldn't get into it. However I loved Cassandra Clare's Clockwork Angel once it got going about half way through. Cherie Priest's Boneshaker (not romance) was wonderful but being a romance reader I kept waiting for a love story to develop. Sigh.
I have yet to read a Steam Punk novel but I can say I'm loving the clothes inspired by the trend! Lol!

Loved Clockwork Angel (although I'm a huge fan of her other series so it was easy for me to get into right away because of the tie ins), didn't finish Boneshaker (but I did actually like the first half before I had to take it back...it was a little slow but still interesting I thought). Leviathan was cute but not really my thing I guess.
Maybe you and I are a little bit alike CJ. I'll try out Iron Duke and see if we're completely on the same page or if I break away on this one and really like it.
I also still want to read :
Thanks Stacia for making me feel like I'm not alone in my tastes. I'd love to hear what you think of The Iron Duke after you've read it.
I believe that
and sequels by Philip Reeve are considered steampunk, even though they are set in a future where cities move around on wheels and eat other cities.I really enjoyed them as a teen and there's a little bit of underlying romance. I've been meaning to go back and reread them at some point but need to get my hands on the books again.
Those are on my list. I've heard they're good. Would you consider them more middle grade like a Percy Jackson type of book? This doesn't bother me because I loved the PJ series, but I was just curious at what age/reading level you'd put them at.
I'd say that they're a bit more complicated than the Percy Jackson books, if I remember correctly, but not by much. It's been at least 6 or 7 years since I read them, though, and only one since I read all the PJ books, so my view of their reading level might be off. Having said that, I'd definitely lump them in the early teens level rather than young adult.

Good to know about Steamed. I'll probably give it a pass, since there are other steampunks out there that have higher praise.
looks good. That cover is beautiful.
There are some great steampunk romances out there but I heard Steamed isn't one of them so I never picked it up. There's a list on Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/59...
Hi :) I'm new here, but I just wanted to chime in real quick on the Iron Duke. It's a great book, with fabulous world building, and Rhys is a delicious hero. Also Samhain has a steampunk book coming out tomorrow that looks promising by Moira Rogers called Wilder's Mate.
Speak for your self Stacia ~ I'm totally crazy... about books :) Welcome Roxie!!! Can't wait to hear what you are reading
This movie looks like it almost has a Steampunk meets Anime vibe. The cinematography looks like it will be stunning...no clue if the story will be any good. I'm almost thinking of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow when looking at these pictures.
Finished the Iron Duke, I loved it! Steampunk is definitely my thing. I heard good things about this book too
western steampunk kind like the Wild Wild West...love the old tv show.
Awesome, I will grab a copy soon then. I have seen them, but I have always thought they were YA.
Iron Duke is hot, it is a great romance with really good sex scenese -- oh and the world is very inventive. It dragged for me about 2/3 but then I skipped some of the fight scenes and it got interesting again. ;) The prequel is very good too. I think the name "Sucker Punch" is pretty bad though.
