I don't read a lot of horror but I have read a couple of good ones over the last few years - both are huge books in terms of page numbers. The Passage by Justin Cronin got a lot of hype last year but I have to say it pretty much lived up to it.
The Terror by Dan Simmons is kind of historical in that it follows historical events related to Arctic explorers but there is definitely horror in it.
I pretty much love all of Tess Gerritsen's books, my favourite title being The Bone Garden. Also enjoyed some books by Dean Koontz, Tami Hoag, Carol Goodman en The Perfect Husband by Lisa Gardner is on my TBR list. (Now how would I put any of these titles in a link...?)
Above your comment box, on the right hand side there is a link that says, 'add book/author'~ Click on that, a search engine will appear, where you can choose the title of the book, or the author. At the bottom of the new box, you have a choice to choose displating a link~ Or a book cover... Like this

Some really good "medical horror" that I was into is anything written by Robin CookHe wrote the original books that the movies, Outbreak, Coma and Contagion. He writes this that are just a little to close to what actually may happen. Scares the begeezus out of me.
Ooooohhh! Anne Rice is a good Horror author. She's one of my mother's favourites, and I have read a few of her novels. I really liked Interview with the Vampire. I often enjoy John Saul, Dean Koontz, and Stephen King too.
