Oh my gosh - Cummings was an ass (evidently it runs in his family, eh?). So do you think Sheila killed him??? I do.

And I'm not sure who I hated more: Cummings or Elizabeth's dumbass mother.

I was hoping her ship would hit a rock and sink on her way out of the harbor, lol.

Just finished part II. Yes, Cummings was a major arsehole and really deserved the end he got and yes I think Sheila done him in.

I rather liked the switch to the next generation, IMHO there's only so much that could be done with Pat and Mayrah with her language barriers.

I really like Sheila and I like how Elizabeth has come into her own but Colin seems to be such a non-entity. Only there for the purpose of wedding and bedding Elizabeth so she becomes a member of the family.

Yes, Colin wasn't much, was he other than handsome? I thought Sheila and Elizabeth's relationship was just lovely, though.

I agree, especially when her parents died and how strongly she reacted to it. She wasn't quite so tough as we thought at the end.

I have to say that the jumps between sections are rather jarring, it takes me a while to figure out where we've got to. It would have been nice if he'd labeled the sections with a year or something to let us know where we'd got to next.

Good point, I would have liked to see Mayrah more with her children. And you are right, they were quite elderly and feeble by the end. I didn't think Pat was that old when they first married.

I just hope I don't walk away from this using some of the language for a while like I did from Outlander.

You know, the age thing never occurred to me but I think you're right....there's a disparity there somewhere.

So I just finished reading part two. I agree that Cummings was an arsehole, but I have to say I thought he was a very two dimensional arsehole/bad guy!

I did find the section about killing the dingoes to be quite shocking. I am sure that it fits in with the period, but I struggled to reconcile that as a modern reader.
