What's your relegion? Why do you have it? Is it because you're prents believe it, because your friends do, because you feel it's right, or something else?

Mine's Islam (you noe very well :P)Welll, my parents blv it and I think it's rite, so both of those reasons
I'm atheist, for several different reasons. In the absence of logical explanation--for me--the default response is non-belief.
As I've said before, I was raised Roman Catholic but do not go to church anymore. I still believe in God and follow some of its tenets because I believe there is a higher power and the beliefs often fit with my own moral code. It's far from perfect, and it does not control my every move, but it adds a little something to my life.
Emma (Soul of sunshine) wrote: "Yeh, but why? I mean, what is it about it that makes you think it's right?"Well, I couldn't actually say because there are multiple points to your qeustion. I'd have to go on forever.
Mianly, I beelive there is a higher power... like Gatorman. But I'm specific, as in Islam, because most of my questions have answers that - may not have a logical explanation - but sound right to me.
I'm not sure what my religion is... I guess I'm atheist but I'm not against God or religion, I just don't really believe it in. I accept the possibility of God but I can't make myself believe something I don't.
I'm part of my own religion....i created it to fit my own beliefs...
@Donatello: You.re... jewish? *Totally amazed look* OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD!!!*Hug tackles*
I luuuuuuuuuuuve Jews!!!!
I love myself too!!! Narcissism rocks! jkand as a skeptic, Rowan, I don't really believe everything my religion says. i believe certain parts of the Torah are just fables, and that certain miracles were caused by natural forces, not G-d.
I think that's really cool that you are kind of chosing your own path in your religion. It's great that you are thinking outside the box and not blindly following :)
Thnx! That's my main goal in life, not blindly following.i'm taking a class in religious school called Judaism vs. Science. We have a lot of interesting and thought-provoking discussions. We talked about Lot's wife, the Flood, Jonah and the Whale, creation, stuff like that.
Here's an interesting tidbit: questioning G-d isn't wrong. When G-d was about to destroy two cities (i forget their names), Abraham doubted Him and argued with Him. Took a lot of courage, in my opinion.
I'm a liberal Quaker. I believe that every person has an "Inner Light"/"Inner Voice/ that sort of speaks to you (in a figurative manner), guides you, and can help you understand the nature of the universe. For all I know, it's just the subconscious, but I just have a gut feeling that it's something more than that. Do I have any evidence beyond my gut feelings? No, and that's why I wouldn't try to convince others that I'm right and they're wrong. Learning more about the nature of God and the physical universe is very important to me. Learning and discovering and developing a deeper understanding all somehow seem connected with my beliefs. It's hard to explain.
I think one of the main reasons I choose not to be religious is because I feel the need to be my own person and make my own path in life. If I base my moral standards and goals off something someone else tells me to, I feel as if I would lose myself. I want to make my own decisions and be a good person because I choose to be, not because I'm afraid if I don't I'll go to hell, or anything along those lines. I'm going to question many things in my life and want to actually find answers rather than just accepting what I'm told. I want to feel in control and free to do as I wish.
Rowan wrote: "I think one of the main reasons I choose not to be religious is because I feel the need to be my own person and make my own path in life. If I base my moral standards and goals off something someon..."I agree qith everything you just said.
Rowan wrote: "I think one of the main reasons I choose not to be religious is because I feel the need to be my own person and make my own path in life. If I base my moral standards and goals off something someon..."It's not just what someone else tells u, but what ur creator told u. the one who gave u life. The really relegious people arent good because they're scared of going to hell but becase they feel that we should be good anyway. u can ask questions in relegion too and the relegion will give u answers. no relegion bounds u, as u make it sound, it just has a moral code of life. Something that isn't gonna turn ur life upside down if u follow it.
Something that isn't gonna turn ur life upside down if u follow it. - By... I dunno, sickness or death or whatever?
maybe if the person dies, the world will be better in a small way for it. like, he could be a good person, but he might insult someone or one of his actions could indirectly lead to someone else's death.
it'll make the person stronger and more determined, and it will also make the family members strong. maybe some will decide to become doctors to stop the disease. so in the long run, i guess it's for the best. no offense to survivors, because i have no idea how it feels to almost die.
Exactly. That's what I'm saying. It makes ahuge difference in a persons life. Yeah, it might make one stronger and more determined, but it completly turns ones life inside out or upside down, or both. Which is why I was asking about it. 'cause Amina wrote:Something that isn't gonna turn ur life upside down if u follow it.
So I just wanted to know what you'd do if your life had already been turned upside down.
Rj Amina wrote: "Rowan wrote: "I think one of the main reasons I choose not to be religious is because I feel the need to be my own person and make my own path in life. And due to the fact that there is no proof of God, I don't believe in him. But has God told you things?
Because you are asking questions and religion is giving you answers, you're not really questioning your religion then. It's like a circle you're stuck in and never really break away from.
And what do you mean that something won't turn my life upside down if you follow it?
Emma (Soul of sunshine) wrote: "Exactly. That's what I'm saying. It makes ahuge difference in a persons life. If I survived cancer, I would probably just get on with my life, because I'd be grateful to be alive and determined to make the most of it.
@Donatello: Of course, and one should. But life would still have been turned up-side down. Everything'll completly change.
to ur question emma. those wo have proper faith in God wouldn't look at illness as sumthing that 'turned their life upside down'they consider it as a test, as a way of puryfying themselves (because sins are crossed out wen ur in pain or ill) and a way to make u stronger.
therefore, ur life wld not already be upside down. it's like dat in us muslims... the ones wid firm beleive in God.
Oh but I'm pretty sure they would Amina. Trust me, if someone gets cancer their life will be turned upside-down and inside-out. Yeah, it might make them stronger, yeah it might change how they look at things. Everything'll still be changed.
@rowan"The one who gave me life is my mom and she told me to believe whatever I want. And due to the fact that there is no proof of God, I don't believe in him. But has God told you things?Because you are asking questions and religion is giving you answers, y"
actualy our holy book quran is a word from God.. so yea God has told us things.. and we try our best to follow themm....
as for ur we are stuck in a loophole... dude we do question our religion but the thing we hav bin giv all the facts that we need to believe in our religion..
But that's not what I said was it? I said that it'd still be turned upside-down, no matter how the world looks to them.
no, as I said those who have full faith in God, they wont see it as their life turning upside down. they will keep faith that they'll be well soon enough, or will go to heaeven if they die.sounds a bit harsh, but it's true
No Amina, I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I'm not saying that they'll turn into bad people or loose faith or anything. But cancer will make your life turn upside-down. New view on life and people and yourself. Its such a huge change, there ain't no people who wouldn't get their life turned upside-down or inside-out or both. Imagine it just for a sec: You loose all your hair, and your eyelashe and -brows. You look pale and sick. That's just the looks though. You don't know who your are anymore, you don't know if you'll live or die. You're nausous all the time, and will possibly have something removed (Leg, arm; entrails), which won't make it any easier. I'm not saying that it'll make you loose faith, but I am saying that it'll turn your world upside-down. And again this isn't necerserily gonna make everything suck for the rest of your life. It'll make one stronger in mind and more content with life, both good qualities. But the world will still change for that person.
And you didn't get what I'm saying. But first lemme ask: what's ur point? What I mean is, that yes, his/her life will change drastically. But if that person beleifs in God, then that upside-down won't affect him as much as it will a person widout faith... because this person will beleive that there life has changed for a reason and that whatever God does is for a very good reason.
The upside-down thing you were talking about:Something that isn't gonna turn ur life upside down if u follow it.
I disagree. I think something as big as that would turn anyones life upside-down, regardless of believes.
There's a huge difference between changing the color of your hair, and getting Cancer Fariha. What I'm talking about aren't little changes, it's big changes. With a thing like cancer or AIDS or the death of a family member you'll never be the same.
Fariha wrote: "@rowan"The one who gave me life is my mom and she told me to believe whatever I want. And due to the fact that there is no proof of God, I don't believe in him. But has God told you things?Becaus..."
How do you know that the quran is true? How do you know it wasn't written by someone lied? How do you really know what is says isn't a lie? Where is the proof?
