Emma (zeeberg) I thought it would be interesting to see peoples reactions and opinions on this subject. Should prostitution be allowed? How do you feel about prostitutes, and why?

- Personally, I don't really care. If they want to sell their body to whomever, it's their choice. I would never do it, and I think it's kinda low. There're better ways to get attention, especially from the opposite sex. There're also better ways to get money. But if that's what people feel like they should be doing, then it's their choice really.

- One thing I'm against with all my heart though, are those who "import" people from other countries and sell them, earning money off people who didn't want it. That's illegal and wrong and it disgusts me that someone would sell another person like that.

David jones | 135 comments Well, i think its wrong. Especially the last part when people kidnap humans and sell them into the sex trade or something. Its disgusting and nasty. (btw, a similar scenario happened in the movie taken with liam nessan, just say lolz)

Emma (zeeberg) I don't think it's the best way to live, but people who choose this of their own free will... *Shrugs* It's their choice, and though I personally would never do it, they're free to do whatever with their bodies. It's a cheap way of buying attention, but it's their own choice.

'Cept the slavery thing part. That's sick.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree, Emma. For the most part, if someone wants to sell their body, it's not my business. But I hate the idea of kidnapping people and forcing them into that world.

@ David-yep, that was an awesome movie.

message 9: by Lauren (new)

Lauren i dont think it should be legal, because of the sex trade business, they cant shut those places down because it is legal...so i think it should be illegal

And i have seen Taken, it was a really good film.

message 11: by Nate (new)

Nate I agree with candace & Emma, you want to sell your body thats your business, but I dont agree with forcig others into it and I would also add that it should be safe, so to some extent I guess if it were leagal then at least they would have to meet certain regulations.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Exactly; that like with the legalization of marijuana. If it was legalized, the government would tax it, etc.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha, can you imagine getting taxed for . . . that?

message 14: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman For the most part, I agree with the comments here. I find it a rather sad way to live but it should be legal and regulated (tax-wise and medically). I don't make the comparison with legalizing marijuana, though. Two very different things.

message 15: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) those popel shld just be banned, not taxed. It's a low way of earning... I think there are loadssss of other petty jobs that one can do instead stopping so... loww

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree that they are two very different things. I was just having a hard time thinking of something else that people argue the legalization for.

message 17: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Candace!! u didn't read my stry :(

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry, I've been furiously trying to get my word count. Trust me, it's at the top of my to-read list. Don't you want tons of comments? :)

As soon as I finish my word count for today (which might take an hour or so...) I'll read your story. I promise :). I'll read all the chapters you have put up.

You put up more than one chapter, right? I don't wanna stop reading when I get into your story (like I had to with the two chapters you posted previously :P). I'm gonna curl up with a blanket and read like a madwoman.

message 19: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) LOOOOL@madowman. erm, where have u read till, coz I posted chap 8 just now :)

aww, good luck wiv ur word count. I myself am falling behind, but m so tired *yawns* gonna strt again in a wile :/

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, I saw :O. I left off at the end of Third Child, which means I'll have tons to read. But I'm glad because you're story is incredible and now I get a big chunk of it at once :).

I've met my word count each day, but I want to finish this chapter before I allow myself anymore distractions. :) So, I'm off to the NaNO world. Will emerge . . . eventually :).

message 21: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Me too :/ I'm probably on track, but I have set my goal to 2500 per day, wich is much. so i'm kind of falling behind bcoz of myself :P

message 22: by Nate (new)

Nate Let me clarify when I said regulate, I was thinking more along the lines of medically, so that diseases wouldn't be spread. The idea of taxing such a serves never entered my mind. LMAO. (btw do u pay taxes on serves? ..or just items required to preform a service?...nevermind thats opening up another can of worms.)

message 23: by Kylee (new)

Kylee (kyleeraereader) I just think it's sad that people feel like they have to sink down that low and sell their body...

message 24: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Well sometimes there isnt another option for people, there are people that have really hard lives and have to go into prostitution. And some are sold into it.

message 25: by Nate (new)

Nate It is sad @Rowan. However it's their choice, but I don't agree with anyone being forced/sold into it. That's a crime. & same goes for age I think that the person should be of leagal age before they can make that choice.

message 26: by Kylee (new)

Kylee (kyleeraereader) I agree too about the age thing. But I'm trying to place myself in their shoes and think about why you would ever feel the need to be a prostitute... maybe sometimes it is the only option.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 244 comments I think it should be legal for consenting adults to choose to sell their sexual services this way if they want to. I think it's degrading, but that does not mean it should be illegal. I find the few minutes of Jersey Shore that I've seen (never again...never again), along with those other reality shows designed to basically mock people's lives and make others feel good about themselves, to be degrading. That doesn't mean that they should be illegal. AS LONG AS NO ONE IS FORCED INTO IT! Forced prostitution is slavery and should be banned and fought against.

Agreed

I believe the, um, trolling kind. Like, pick them up on the street.

message 30: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 158 comments I have heard the French have a good system. Evidently, prostitution is legal and they have to get monthly health exams to continue but pimping is against the law and punishable. Sex workers who participate as adults of their own free will is one thing. Sexual slavery is a whole 'nother topic. Pimps who sell underage girls are slime and should be thrown in jail. I'm reading a series where prostitutes are referred to as "licensed companions": it is strictly regulated and there are different classes of licensed companions w/rules about where &how you practice your trade and keeping up your licensing requirents. If you are unlicensed or violating your license then you are arrested &/or receive counseling. It might work, but what a headache it would cause .think of all the bureaucracy involved. Most prostitution is an act of anarchy.

message 31: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman "Most prostitution is an act of anarchy."

How do you figure that?

message 32: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 158 comments because it usually is an act outside of and against the existing system...it is (if done by choice) an individual going outside of and against the mores and laws of the existing society..

message 33: by Annemarie (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 470 comments I think the french system ^^ for it is cool.

message 34: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman No offense, but just because it goes outside the existing moral structure does not mean prostitutes are anarchists. I doubt highly that, if you asked them, they would say they are doing it to rebel against society or to create anarchy. They are doing it for more desparate reasons than that.

message 35: by Annemarie (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 470 comments Yes, anarchists doesn't really fit.

I was alluding to that point in my response to Michele's "anarchy" comment". I agree it is usually an act of desperation and not something done with the intent to send a message or take a stand against society.

message 38: by meri (new)

meri (meri_is_a_saltedfish) | 127 comments i don't really care if prostitution be allowed or not...even if we try to stop it's still there...

how do i feel about them? i sympathize them at times....i pity them sometimes...and i idolise them most of the time..yes it's their choice but we don't know the reasons behind their decisions...if you say that their job is against the teaching of God, then i agree with you...but you do not know that most of these people that we call prostitutes, harlots, whores: are the ones who believe in God the most...and if you suggest that it's better to die than be a prostitute, then think otherwise...it's our nature as a human being to do everything to do everything to survive...what do you tink is the real reason of our existence til now? isn't it because we(humankind) did everything to survive? it's our animal instinct to thrive for survival!

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 244 comments Amina wrote: "Even if ur dying u shldn't come to such as prostitution which totally rong... in my views AND relegion."

That's a good point, Lindsay. It also seems to bring up the point: Which is worse? Letting someone (or multiple someones) die or being a prostitute?

message 41: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Die. Because not living is better than liviing like dat. I'm sorry if i sound really cruel or watevr... but I think there's always a way other than this.

message 42: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Amina wrote: "Die. Because not living is better than liviing like dat. I'm sorry if i sound really cruel or watevr... but I think there's always a way other than this."

But sometimes there's no other way. And what if it's not about you? If you have kids who're starving, and this is the only way? I think i'd do amything for any possible children i might have. I guess that's the mother-instinct.

message 43: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman There may or may not be, but I would think that many prostitutes don't believe there is a better way, which is why they resort to it.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 244 comments Amina wrote: "Die. Because not living is better than liviing like dat. I'm sorry if i sound really cruel or watevr... but I think there's always a way other than this."

What if you're in a country without a financial safety net, like welfare or unemployment, and where there isn't enough charity to support yourself and your family, would it really be better to let your family starve?

message 45: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) I'd find another way and if I couldn't, I'd beelive in God and ask for His help. And I beleive that God doesn't burden anyone with what he can't take... so I'd find sum way in the end. Sumthing other than this.

message 46: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) God burdens people with things they cant take all the time. A lot of people di e, starve or go to some kind of extreme, because they cant handle life without whatever. So obviously they've been burdened with something thet cant handle.

message 47: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) No, they've been burdened what they can haldnle, therefore, they are alive. And if they die then it was in their destiny to die.

message 48: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) But if they die, obviously they cant handle it. Hench the dying. And you can be alive without being able to handle your burden. People get mentally ill because of some burden they've had in life, which they could not handle. Death is not always involved in not being able to handle something.

message 49: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Exactly... so death cums wen it is supposed to come. And I don't know anyone who has been burdened with more than he/she can handle. It may seem too much at that tym, but we get through it. ANnd in case the ending is bad, then that person goes to paradise for trying.

message 50: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Well maybe you dont, but it so happens that i do. Well, did. I also know people who were burdened with some seriously shit and got trough it. But you dont have to know anyone personslly to know that some people go trou more than they can mentally handle.
