I think I read the first one as a book of the month in another group. It was ok, but nothing great, IMO. Might have to try the second one since people seem to really like the series.
I requested it from my library. I like the theme of the covers, and the last one especially fits the title, imo.
It seems like book 1 doesn't fit though. I haven't read them yet. I don't even know what they're about to be honest, but I thought you guys might have talking about them.
I read the first one because I just finished Vampire Academy and I was craving some more 'vampire boarding school' stories. All the boarding school stuff actually began in the second book, but I still enjoyed the first book. If you like Vampire Academy then I think you will like this one
These are fun books. Someone in a different group compared them to the tv show Supernatural, it was a good comparison.
I heard that and I think that is why I read the first. I didn't see it though (except for what happened to her dad). Maybe it is more like it as the series goes on?
I think the comparison to Supernatural comes from what Dru did with her dad before the book began,or the way Dru explains/describes what she did with her dad: running around killing things that rightly shouldn't exist. But once the book really gets going I don't think its like Supernatural at all.
I'm almost done with the first one now and I like it for the most part. The only thing that kinda irks me is that it's first person and she interrupts her story with italicized thoughts. Sometimes they're funny, sometimes just jarring to the story.I like Dru a lot, she's a great heroine and I've already requested the next one from the library.
I read the first one. It was okay. The only saving Grace it had was the wonderful Graves. I love that kid.
Cristophe can go to hell.
Haven't read the rest yet. Not a real priority. It kind of gave me a headache. So much happens at once.
I am on the Graves bandwagon too. He is a funny kid and really there for her when she needed a friend.
Exactly! And he's so resourceful...who else could set up a home in a mall and not get caught?
He's so sweet
Yeah, the poor guy. I just want to give him a hug. Screw Christophe. He's such a....ugh. He's such a drip.
I have not heard anyone called a drip in ages! I love it! But, I don't love him. But I don't get Graves and his push/pull behavior towards Dru. Boys.
Oh, I just finished the 2nd, Betrayals. I'm really enjoying this series. Not much happens plotwise with this one, but it deals with some of the emotional stuff Dru's been through and you find out more about the worldbuilding.
Okay, I know there are a couple of fans of this series here, so I thought I'd post a new interview with the author.http://readingawesomebooks.blogspot.c...
Of particular interest:
"I will say this, though: nobody really understands the lengths Christophe’s willing to go to for his little bird."
very interesting...
If you all didn't like these so much I would have put the first one down in the beginning. It's starting to get better so I'm glad I stuck with it for y'all. (There, I added some Southern to the conversation.) Anyway, I'm just over 100 pages so far. I'm not LOVING it, but it looks like it has potential now.
So I am over halfway finished the second and it really drags for me. Does the book (or series) get better? I am just not that interested as of yet.
It's only to the third book, but I'd say it gets relatively better. It's not a 180 or anything, so I don't know if it'd be enough to change your mind....
I haven't tried book 2 yet, but I was left on the fence with book 1. I see the possibility for potential, but I'm not leaning toward liking it just yet.
I only read the first and liked it just okay... Some say it gets better and others say the opposite...
The second one was better than the first in my opinion. I love this series. It was really quick and easy to read
All I could think when I read your response, Mairead, was "well. mean." and then I pouted. Defiantly even, ha!
Well, I bought it the day it came out (thanks, Kindle!) and even though this is still one of my favorite YA-series, this one definitely wasn't the strongest of the bunch. Now less than a week after this book is released I can't wait for the next one, lol! At least I only have to wait until November. *fingers crossed*
On a sidenote, I wonder how frustrating/wonderful it is for an author to work on a book for several months/years only for it to be devoured in a matter of hours by the readers and then have them eagerly waiting for the next.
I wondered that, but then I realized they're probably just happy that people are reading their books.
I finished Defiance last night and as much as I love this series, I was kind of "meh" on it. I don't know if its that I haven't read the series in so long or what but it took me forever to get into the rhythm of the book. It felt like nothing happened. (Well. Until the end. Thanks for cliff hanger, Lili St. Crow. Always a pleasure) And Dru seemed so all fired WHINY. I just wanted her to SHUT UP and go find GRAVES. I did very much enjoy the conversation between Christophe and Dru (view spoiler)
Yeah, Tya I felt like this was Christophe's time to shine and the last book kind of felt like it was more Graves's turn. So I guess she'll really being leaving it to the last one.I also wasn't as impressed with this one. I think the author is at her best when she writes the angsty-love-type scenes, which were few and far between in this one. (view spoiler)
Heather wrote: "I wondered that, but then I realized they're probably just happy that people are reading their books."That's what I thought, but I guess it would only get annoying when they start nagging about and demanding the next one right away.
I just picked up this one today at the library and am reading it now. I have ignored all of your comments and will post mine when done.
I finished Defiance and really thought most of it was filler. I agree with you Samantha that this book was all about Christophe. I don't really care for him and think all along he has had a secret agenda the whole time. Like Tya, I wanted her to find Graves and quit talking about it.
I was happy with the ending, although I do wonder how things will go in the next one.
Was anyone else happy with what happened to Ash? This is one character that has snuck up on me. I really like him and am glad to see the new developments there.
I was happy with the Ash development! I really did like the book, despite (in spite of? I can never remember.) of the slow start. I'm excited for whats going to happen next now. So. I just feel so badly for Graves! After being stuck with Sergej for all of that time must have changed him.
I keep looking for tidbits as to who she's going to pick, because like you Darcy I'm a Graves fan. So this book was a little less to my tastes. (view spoiler)
It took amazon.com a long ol' time to send the last book to me and by the time I got it I was so completely spoiled that I'm having a hard time getting in to it. Saintcrow spends so much time on the love triangle and knowing how it ends makes it hard to focus on the other things going on. The triangle feels more prominent in this book than it did the others.
I think Reckoning was supposed to be the last book in this series but I really hope St. Crow continues with these characters. I did not feel even close to resolved at the end of this.
Colleen wrote: "I think Reckoning was supposed to be the last book in this series but I really hope St. Crow continues with these characters. With how that book was I am glad that it is done.
I didn't fall in love with the first one. I have the second one listed as to read eventually, but I keep putting it off for some reason. Maybe I'll devour the whole series someday.
I bought the last one, but I haven't heard very many good comments (plus I peeked at the end...not happy), so as far as I'm concerned it was over with book 4.
