Carol (actutor) Are you reading anything riveting?

message 2: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissa419) | 123 comments I am reading The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan.

message 3: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Look Me in the Eye by John Elder Robison. Loving it!! I'm probably the only person that didn't know he is the older brother of Augusten Burroughs. I can't wait to get back to it.

message 4: by Tina (new)

Tina (lancejrmommy) | 59 comments I'd know you anywhere by Laura Lippman.
Its pretty good, I'm about halfway through.
I seem to be reading a lot of books about kidnapping lately.

message 5: by Liz (new)

Liz Just finished "Top Producer" by Norb Vonnegut - a financial mystery. I think they may have called it a financial thriller, but I think of a thriller as fast-moving & this wasn't. But it did keep me quite interested. Right now I'm reading "Stay" by Allie Larkin - a bit of "chick lit" I think. Next up is either "The Bride Collector" by Ted Dekker or "Evidence" by Jonathan Kellerman.

message 6: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I finished "The Promised World" by Lisa Tucker, which is a very effective contemporary novel focusing on fraternal twins. Now I'm trying to finish "The War Against Miss Winter" before it has to go back to the library.

Is the author related to Kurt?

message 8: by Liz (new)

Liz Not that I could find from anywhere on the book cover or his acknowledgements. Obviously I wondered the same thing.

message 9: by Marybeth (new)

Marybeth | 3 comments Hi, all: Am about 40% of the way through "The Confession" by John Grisham. Haven't read any of his books in ages, but this is a quick read about capital punishment. Can't wait for the new Dennis Lehane and Stephen King books which come out this month. Lots of great reading at Turkey Time!

message 10: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jml_417) I'm going to start In the Company of Cheerful Ladies (#6 in the Ladies' Detective Agency series) tonight and when this one is done, I'll be moving on to A Thousand Splendid Suns.

Jenn

message 11: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (gkonkler5) I've got about 20 minutes left of listening left of Room. I'm liking it. Think this would be a good "book club" type read. I have so many questions yet no one but a 5 year old to answer them!!

Still working on We Don't Live Here Anymore by Andre Dubus. Like it lots too. About marriage, affairs and friendship. Good readin!! His son, Andre Dubus III, does the introduction(House of Sand and Fog) and was wonderful.

Gaahh! New books.. Dennis Lehane and Stephen King??? Gonna have to go see what they're about.

message 13: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (laureljean) Halfway through A Ship Made of Paper and while I might not go as far as riveting, I do find it extremely interesting. And I'd rather read it than trying to figure out what to pack for the trip.

Spent last night in Urgent Care. 2nd chest x-ray in 3 weeks. Cannot stop coughing and then I can't catch my breath. I'm now on my 2nd round of antibiotics and this one, they say, has had "success with pneumonia." I have cough syrup with codeine, too, which does seem to help a slight bit. Also, had a test for whooping cough. And I leave Friday a.m.!

message 14: by Marybeth (new)

Marybeth | 3 comments Well, the new Dennis Lehane book picks up the story in "Gone, Baby, Gone", about 10 years or so after the first book ended. The new Stephen King is a book of short stories, I believe. Either way, in my opinion, you can't go wrong!

You need to get better fast.

I think Hawaii itself should be able to finish curing you.

message 17: by Annika (new)

Annika Yikes - I wrote a whole big reponse to you, Laurel, and it seems to have vanished into cyberspace. I hate when that happens. Anyway, I essentially said that I hope you get better soon so you can enjoy your trip! Take care.

Maybe our replies to Laurel crashed in cyberspace. It looks like they were both sent at the same time!

message 21: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (laureljean) Thanks to you all! I hope I feel better soon, too. My main worry now is work. I really need to go in these next 2 days (I missed today), but I'm still coughing and feeling horrible, whole body, including head aches from the cough. I think I need to chance it though. Toughen up....

Oh, Laurel, I'm so sorry you're not feeling well. Feel better soon!

message 23: by Libby (new)

Libby I just finished listening to The Girl With no Shadow by Joanne Harris. It is the sequel to Chocolat (which I never read, but I did see the movie). I really enjoyed this book. It is told from three different perspectives and kept me interested the whole time. I just started The Book of Love by Kathleen McGowan. It is the sequel to The Expected One. So far it is not moving really fast, but I do like it.

Marybeth, I saw that Lehane wanted to go back to his old series, and I am glad he brought things into the current day. I never read King, but I might. When I read, On Writing I developed an appreciation for his craft. When my students become frustrated about revising their writing, I usually mention how King might revise a page up to 20 times.

I haven't read King's fiction in years, though I'm a fan of his earlier works. I really liked "On Writing," and have at times assigned portions of it to my students. He can be pretty funny.

message 26: by Sara (new)

Sara (rstjm4) | 70 comments Where do the weeks/days go?? Anyone else have this problem? I really want to be more active on here but it just seems that I either forget, or I don't have time!!! AUGH!!

Anyway, I am reading the 5 greatest warriors by Matthew Rielly. He is an australian author that I happened to stumble upon and have loved his work since!! Up next - probably Rich Boy.

message 27: by Mary (new)

Mary | 236 comments I agree, Sara: The days/weeks are just flying! And I've got an exceptionally busy couple of months ahead of me. I've just started Tatjana Soli's THE LOTUS EATERS -- only a few pages in so I don't know what I think about it yet. It's nearly 400 pages with small-margined pages so this baby's gonna' take me a while!

message 28: by Elise (new)

Elise I'm reading Revolution. It's a YA about the French Revolution. Quite good. Not sure what's up next...
