I HATE MY TEAM - sports thread!
Welcome to Red Sox Nation! We're everywhere. The team is all characters, and even if you don't like baseball, you'll love these guys. And management does seem to understand how to put an actual team together, and not to just have a bunch of stars.
The fans tend to be characters too.....but we're fun.
Wait, the Giants have a star player? Who? They used to have a pitcher named Barry Zito...whatever happened to him?
Screw Red Sox Nation. You guys are fun and all, but you're slowly becoming the one thing you hate: Yankee fans.

Does it matter who is playing on the Mariners? I think not, Lori. The heartbreak is the same, whatever the names...
Gus... exactly. (re Zito)
Actually RA, I don't hate the Brewers. And I could count on being able to see them play in SF during the regular season. I'd only get to see the Red Sox IF they ever happened to get into the Series against the Giants (not fucking likely, the Giants are going to suck for a long long time if this keeps up).
:::sigh:::::

Ooo! Now there's an idea... I could go back to being an A's fan. I was an A's fan growing up. My dad was a Dodgers fan. I know, it's weird, but... a long story. Anyway... I hate Oakland, and I hate A's fans... but... hm....

I agree with Gus in that the Red Sox fans' annoying behavior has got me sympathetic for the Yankees...never thought that would happen...
I grew up a Mets fan, having lived 5 minutes from Shea Stadium. For a while, I appreciated the Yankees, but their fans make me want to kill. Now they've become whiny and fatalistic, the way the Red Sox Nation used to be.
Christ, if the Sox win again this season, the RS Nation will go into full-blown Evil Empire mode.

NB.... how can I stay a Giants fan when their management seems hell bent on keeping them one of the worst teams in baseball??? I swear, I want to fill their office with a load of rotting garbage!!!
I feel your pain, Charissa. It's that bad management that made me swear off my beloved Knicks. Bad management not only ruins teams, they ruin the fun of rooting for a team, no matter how good or bad they are.
But it's so good to win, and we waited so long in New England to have a winning baseball team that didn't choke right after every all star game. What made everyone hate the Yankees? They were winners. Winning's good. Go Sox.
Speaking of baseball...Paul posted a link to an article titled "10 Things You Need To Know About Murakami" in Kelly's review of the superbrilliant "Wind-Up Bird Chronicle." This is part of that article:MURAKAMI OWES EVERYTHING TO BASEBALL
On April 1, 1978, he was watching a baseball game at the Jingu Stadium, in Tokyo, on a warm, sunny day — the Yakult Swallows against the Hiroshima Carp. An American player for the Swallows, Dave Hilton, stepped up to bat and hit a home run. In that instant, Murakami knew he was going to write a novel. “It was a warm sensation. I can still feel it in my heart,” he told Der Spiegel earlier this year. He started work that night on his debut novel, Hear the Wind Sing.
Here's the link...thanks to Paul.

one of the few advantages to living in los angeles is that i don't have to pretend to care about baseball/basketball/etc.
Varmint, you don't need to live a big city to not care about sports.
Just saying.
Just saying.
i played played football and basketball poorly in school. but that was years ago. i have no interest in being a spectator, watching overpaid rapists run back and forth. eye glazingly dull.of course i think moto gp is the most exciting thing in the world. and schedule my vacations around races.
Wow a baseball discussion. Let me say that being a lifelong Phillies fan has been tough. That makes it all-the-better to watch them sitting (although tied) in first place.

Say hello to 2nd Place.
Mets win! Mets win!

Those Mets and Phillies are really starting to hate each other, eh?I love the fact that Prince Fielder and CC Sabathia weigh more than some teams' entire infields.

I wouldn't say the teams hate each other, but we New Yorkers (even us former ones) just don't like Philly. At all. And the feeling is mutual; Philly folks don't like Philly, either...
I read that CC Sabathia "weighs" 280 lbs. My ass he does!
Someone needs to make sure neither Sabathia nor Prince Fielder attacks one of those sausages during the 7th inning Sausage Race in Milwaukee.

Philly and NY are the two most passionate sports cities. When they are competing against each other for games of consequence fervidity rises to the forefront.
Anyone notice the Brewers have won eight in a row, seven in a row on the road? We swept the Cardinals. I have tickets for the Brewers/Cubs game next Thursday. It's the last game of a four game set, the day game, and it might be the hottest Brewers ticket since the day Miller Park opened. Whoo! Go Brewers!Oh, and uh, thanks for Ray Durham, Giants!
:)
Which team is your favorite, Nick? Or do you follow any special football players. Some are "mean and green" and some are GQ models, and some are just cute on their commercials. My local team has already reported to training camp. I'm assuming others are as well?? Our quarterback dates models, could be one, and has a lot of Super Bowl rings.
Well I am a die hard bear’s fan, Always have been, and no matter how many times they let me down I am still up for eating their heart attack nachos at Solders field. Currently the only thing I am following is the Hester refused to show up for training. Apparently he only makes 400K a year. Normally I cringe when professional sports players bitch about the money they make, but I think Hester has a point. He carried the team last year and he is the lowest paid? Typical of the Chicago management, they will keep eff'n around until he goes to green bay.
Football...as in the kind you kick or the kind you throw?
Pigskin season hasn't started, and I'm already hoping for its' end. I hear one more story about Brett Fucking Favre, I'm going on a shooting spree.

Convertible porsche? In what dimension?:)I'm from Chicago...I love the 85 Bears. A little tear comes to my eyes when I remember those times...sniffle...

I'm totally with Nick on paying Devin Hester more. I know it's not saying much on the current Bears' incarnation, but he's their best offensive player by far.
And Gus...if I never hear of that diva hillbilly Farve again, it'll be too soon...I live just north of Milwaukee now...he's never off the news.
Hey, last night Ray Durham went two for three with a walk and scored three runs for the Brewers. What team was silly enough to give that guy up, anyway?:)
Hahahaha! Wriggly field sounds so cute! That's exactly how I feel at a baseball game, too, wriggly with boredom. I used to go with my dad, but I'd always bring a book. Hey, it was the Mariners, I had to do something to keep myself awake!
It's actually Wrigley Field, Nick, named after the chewing gum magnate William Wrigley, Jr.

Charly, uhm, yeah... funny in a way that make me want to stab him. Pitchers are all such head cases. Nobody should give them large sums of money. It just encourages them to be spazes. Pitchers should be locked in a cage at night and tossed scraps, made to watch reruns of One Day at a Time to make them mean enough to pitch properly.
Pssst. Charley. The Angels are wiping the floor with you guys this year.We didn't need that prospect...he could only play first base and left field...where we've got Fielder and Braun.
Wrigley Field is a tourist trap but a decent place for a baseball game. I lived two blocks away for a year and about a mile away for three years.
Wrigley Field isn't a problem as much as the fans that go there...drunken frat boys more often than not.
Wrigley Field is a tourist trap but a decent place for a baseball game.killing me, RA. Killing me.
Yes, the Cubs are in 1st. Sadly, they were up in first by 7 or 8 games... Now, tied (i think ) with the brewers for first.
i smell a typical Cubs downward spiral.
Four game Cubs/Brew set this week, BRMB! We have tickets for Thursday. Living near Wrigley Field sucked. You had drunks peeing on your lawn, people barfing on your car, etc. In fact, BRMB...you look kind of familiar....
Mmkay, I'm just ducking in here to say primly, on behalf of my northeastern brethren:It's beirut, not beerpong.
We prefer names to be as cold and sadistic as possible, clearly.
Now back to your regularly scheduled team bitching. Which I will not join in, as bitching about the Mariners is like howling at the moon these days.

Ray Durham has been my favorite Giants player over the past several years. He has been reliable, solid, and humble. Really a joy to watch and so many times pulling a hit in a clutch. Nothing flashy. Just a great ball player.
Once again, the management of the Giants, in their INFINITE FUCKING WISDOM have paid a huge sum to a moody star player, and are trading their nuts and bolts for unknowns.
I HATE MY TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm seriously considering becoming a Red Sox fan. I can't fucking stand the management of this team.
