Hi all. Here is a thread for you to rant about whatever you want.

@ G4B: I asked back in the evolution thread what was the craziest experience you've had with a creationist/fundie?

Amina (journalistam) I want Saaaaaad :'(

People who pronounce "frustrated" as "fLustrated". Politicians who make up words like "refudiate".

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha. Yes, I can't stand it when people purposely mispronounce words either. I live in the south, so people do that a lot here.

Kylee (kyleeraereader) I hate, hate, HATE the word "fag"... it's so stupid and kids today think it's funny to call each other it! It's absolutely horrible! It's teaching children that being homosexual is something bad and to be ashamed of!

the word fag is a shortened form of faggot. during the burning times (witch hunts) homosexuals would be tied up and thrown on the wood pile to serve as kindling for burning the witch. So every time I hear the word fag I think of burning human flesh...and get ill.

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 158 comments Is computereze ruining the english (or any other)language? Are acronyms a language? The English language spellings varied for many centuries until Samuel Johnson's dictionary. Now there is the Oxford Dictionary and in the U.S. Webster's where spellings were regularized and everyone learned to spell it the same way? Is computereze with it's newly shortened spelling ruining the language? Is there a dictionary of computerese? Is this a return to word anarchy and is that necessarily a bad thing?

Oh my god, that is one of the worst things I have ever heard. I never knew that.

Another thing about kids calling each other that or talking bad about homosexuals, how do they not know that their friend sitting next to them isn't gay? They could be really hurting someone without even thinking about it, just because it's so "cool" to say it.

I completely agree! Using "gay" and "retarded" as generally negative terms also bothers me to an insane degree.

Random fact! Apparently, "fag" can also mean "cigarette" in British slang. I don't hear it too often, but the few time I have heard it, it was quite jarring.

Emma (zeeberg) I completely agree! Using "gay" and "retarded" as generally negative terms also bothers me to an insane degree.

- I agree. I'd rather that people say "Screw you you fucking bastard" than "You homosexual retard". At leats with the first, they're just throwing random, somehow meaningless insults, that are more or less ignorable (if that is a word). With "homowsexual" and "retard" it becomes something else. It becomes a bad thing to be either. And though retards might be, well, reatarded, they're still very sweet people. They just don't function in the same way as most other people. Still dosen't meen they aren't people. As for homosexuals... They're exactly like us, 'cept they like their own gender. An really, so what?

message 12: by Kylee (new)

Kylee (kyleeraereader) I know, it just makes me so sad that for kids today, it has become alright for them to say that. I heard my little brother call one of his friends that on the bus and I chewed him out and embarrassed him so bad in front of his friends. But I haven't heard him say it again.

message 13: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) I know. My brother did the same thing to one of his friends and I git so pissed. I gave him the whole screaming lecture of how homosexuals are people like us, no difference yaayadayada. I haven't heard him say it again either :) The power of being a big-sister with a big mouth! Mwuahahaha!

message 14: by Kylee (new)

Kylee (kyleeraereader) Oh yeah I know! I love being the older sister... so much power, haha :)

message 15: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 158 comments Rowan wrote: "Oh yeah I know! I love being the older sister... so much power, haha :)"

I hated being a big sister: I was the one who had to be good all the time so I could set the right example for my sister. she had a lot more fun than I did. My folks didn't expect her to be perfect.

message 16: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Right on, Michele. Same here.

message 17: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) I agree with that Michele. I have five younger siblings, and I always have to be the responsible one, the good one. Everything I get, they get. But I don't get everything they get. Wait, that didn't make sense, let me give an example.

I got my first computer when I was 14, at my konfirmation. I'd wanted that computer for two years. I still have that computer.

My little brother got his first computer when he was 11 (he's 12 now). He only uses it to play games on.

My sister is 13. She's had a computer since she was 11, and now her dad is giving her a macbook Pro, no reason. No konfirmation, birthday or christmas. Just because "she needs one".

If I got, say, a TV now, all my siblings would have the "right" to get a TV when they turned 17.
If one of them got a TV now, I wouldn't have the same right.

Get what I'm saying? It's annoying.

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 158 comments when I was 4 and my sister 2 we were playing one day and my sister took my doll. I went to my mother and said, "susie took my doll". My mom said "you have to learn to share with your sister." So, since Susie wasn't playing with her doll, I did. She went to my mom and said "Michele took my doll" and my mom said to me"don't take your sister's toys" and that is the way it was for the rest of my life at home. If I had to wait to wear nylons and then finally got the right to wear them, then my sister complained and they gave them to her at the same time. I was always told that I was the older and had to understand why she never had the same rules I did and was praised for being such a good, understanding daughter. My sister and I are such totally different people. We see each other several times a year and call or e-mail each other once a week. After all, we are the only ones who remember our childhood now. We love each other but will never be best friends. I think if parents set age limits for certain privileges then those age limits should apply to all the children not just the oldest.

message 19: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) I think my parents aren't that strict. I mean, I can't actually remember getting anything that my sis got in a younger age. But I do have to set a good example. And if my sibs do anything particularly wrong then the blame goes to me for 'not being a gud example' lol

message 20: by Kylee (new)

Kylee (kyleeraereader) I'm the middle child and I don't fight with my siblings, but they do. I like to read, I'm pretty quiet and stuck in my own head a lot, I get really good grades, I do stuff outside of school, I'm a nerd, and I have plans for the future. Because of this, I'm my dad's favorite since he is fairly similar to me. He tends to spoil me sometimes and play favorites but that's just how it is. But then my older sister gets spoiled by my mom and my brother gets spoiled by both because he is the youngest. So I like to think it evens out :)

message 21: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Well, I'm my dads only girl and his first-born. He dosen't exactly play favourites, but I know how to twist him around my pinky-finger :) But the same goes for my bro and my mom.

message 22: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Omg same Emma! LOL. I'm the eldest and I was named after his mother since I was born just as she died. So he has a soft sot for me. But urghh, that just means he annoys me :P sumtyms it's cool but sumtyms it's reallllyyyy annoying.

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 158 comments one thing about dads of daughters: they never approve of the guys you date/marry at least not at first. They are never "good enough" for THEIR daughters.

message 24: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I get the 'its because your a girl' thing. That reeeeally annoys me, my mum says she is stricter with me because iam a girl, like my brother has never been grounded in his life and when he was my age he would do the same stuff as me, worse even, and he never got grounded, yet i get grounded for not tidying my room! its so unfair. And i'm not alot to go certian places because i'm 'the girl' like the new years street party, i'm not aloud to go there this year WITH my brother, its so annoying i cant wait till i'm 18 lol.

Soooo true!! Until ur bf/ husband does something great to please them lol :P

message 26: by Kylee (new)

Kylee (kyleeraereader) I've never been grounded... my parents just take away privileges like cell phones or my laptop or stuff like that. But they aren't strict about it at all.

message 27: by Lauren (new)

Lauren my mum and stuff arent strict either i have only been grounded a few times so its not too bad lol. My mum has threatend to take stuff away from me but she never does... haha.

message 28: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) We don't really have 'grounded' in our culture. I just get told off... not evn that anymore. I'm pretty much allowed to do whatever I want... I don't go out so I rly dnt care if i'm allowed or not. Doesn't make a difference.

@Michele: so true. Our prince charming's nvr enuff for daddy :P

message 29: by Kylee (new)

Kylee (kyleeraereader) What do you mean, you don't go out?

message 30: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Both the things u can assume. I dont go out as in bf/gf thingy. and also wid frends.

message 31: by Kylee (new)

Kylee (kyleeraereader) How come? I figured it might be the dating thing, but why not with friends?

message 32: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Ha-ha! I only have virtual frends and the real frends i have live too far away.

message 33: by Kylee (new)

Kylee (kyleeraereader) Awww thats kinda sad... I love hanging out with friends :(

message 34: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) I have never been grounded. My parents don't believe in groudning kids. I haven't been hit (or swatted) either. Or gotten things taken away. I've lot previliges a couple of times, but I'm generelly a pretty decent child, so they rarely have reasons to do any of those thingies there :)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 470 comments Pah. My family forgets about me. I have so many other siblings that are much worse than me that I pretty go under the radar. If I am grounded, my doesn't even enforce it. Preeeetty sweet.

message 36: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) I have five younger siblings, so there's a lot to look after there too. Explanations of being the oldest can be found on this very topic. However, I do get praise for getting good grades, doing good things, helping out etc.

Fariha (damn you SketchUp!!) (fariha1234) | 1212 comments I hav never bin grounded in my life... Well except in 7th grade when I got bad grades but lol it was me who forced my parents to ground me so there will be less distraction and I can study more!! Lol!!!

message 39: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) lol far!!

message 40: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Awww. Poor you

message 41: by Lauren (new)

Lauren thats such bad luck lol. Did you not just explain the situation? lol.

message 42: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Aww, well even though you got grounded, it is quite an ironic and funny situation lol, but sorry that u got in trouble for it :P

message 43: by Lauren (new)

Lauren ha, thats good, its lucky i have a laptop coz my house comp has a parent block thingy on it lol (i'm not good with comps, can you tell? haha) but unlucky for my brother, he has nothing lol.

message 47: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) My parents sometimes check... they have reasons too :P But they trust me, I can say.

message 48: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Wait... what? They check what you're doing on the net! :o I'd kill my parents if they ever violated my privacy like that.

Fariha (damn you SketchUp!!) (fariha1234) | 1212 comments i dont think its a big deal if parents check what you're doing on net.. not that my parents do but if they want to then ther welcome to it lol!

message 50: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Yeah see I don't get that. I would think it's a very big deal if my parents checked what I'm doing on the net. They can check things like my facebook, 'cause that's not exactly private anyway. But if they went on my facebook and checked my mailbox too, then I'd come after them with pitchfork and burning wood. But, they'd never do that, so I don't have to worry there :)
