Welcome to a group devoted to all things Heroine's Bookshelf! Won't you introduce yourself and tell the group who you consider to be your favorite literary heroine?

Rebecca Rasmussen | 1 comments Ooh...I love Jo March! And I am so glad to be here! xo

Krystal (kmthomas06) | 1 comments Hello all! I'd have to say Anne Elliot from Persuasion has always been my favorite :-)

message 4: by Marie (new)

Marie Capet | 1 comments I became addicted to Anne of Green Gables long after it was age appropriate. I think I was in high school and I somehow hadn't gotten it on my radar until I saw the movies on PBS and I had to read all the books.

Lucy Pollard-Gott (fictional100) Thanks, Erin, for the invitation! I would say Jane Eyre is still my favorite heroine, judging by the interest and excitement I can muster for all the different film interpreters of this role, including the newest Jane, Mia Wasikowska. I admire many other heroines, so I will enjoy reading what everyone has to say about their favorites!

Laurel (laurelann) Hi Erin, thanks for the invitation to your greoup. I so enjoyed reading and reviewing The Heroine's Bookshelf. http://wp.me/p8oRe-3bp I am a bookseller and I am so excited about your book that I have selected it as my staff recommendation for December with a goal to sell 100 copies. I'll keep you updated on the customer reactions and progress.

Ellen Brown (ellenfbrown) | 2 comments Hey Erin, This is a tough call. Of the ones in your book, my sentimental favorite has to be Mary from the Secret Garden. Her story absolutely transported me. I've been itching to re-read it since I read your book. But my all time favorite is Sara Crewe from A Little Princes. I chose the house we live in now because the attic has been converted into bedrooms and it reminds me of the pictures from the illustrated version my big sister gave me.

Sharon | 1 comments Hi Erin, Thanks for the invite to the group. I am loving your book and my favorite heroines that you've included: Francie, Mary, Lizzie and Scout. One of my all time favorites not in your book would have to be Antonia Shimerda of MY ANTONIA. Her courage in the face of great hardship have inspired me and helped me better understand the plight of my immigrant grandmother. I often reread my favorite passages when I need a lift.

Buried In Print (buriedinprint) Thanks for the invitation! My favourite literary heroine as a girl was Anne (of Green Gables), although I wondered later why I wasn't more of an Emily girl. It was probably simply that there were family copies of the Anne books, but I had to get older to get my own copies of the Emily stories; I loved the talk of Emily's "flash" and the way that she always turned to her writing to make sense of things around her. I think my newest literary heroine is Pippi (Longstocking). I've only recently discovered her and am planning to read All-things-Pippi before long. Talk about feisty: my jaw literally dropped when she pulled out her pistols! Had I discovered her when I was a girl, I might have lived a very different life indeed!

Julie Thanks for the invitation to join this group, Erin! I haven't had a chance to read your book yet (it is high up on my to read list, I just have a pesky dissertation to write), but I think my favorite heroine in a recent book is Flavia de Luce from Alan Bradley's books.

Anne Elliott, Anne Shirley, Jane Eyre, Sara Crewe, Antonia Shimerda, Pippi Langstrumpf, and Flavia de Luce. That's quite the stable of strong heroines!

Just a reminder that this group will be "official" through the 21st and that I'd love to answer your questions about the book, the writing process, and just about anything else.

message 12: by ModCloth (new)
