It's a bit difficult to find, but Melting Stones by Tamora Pierce is really good. It's also a bit of history, because it's the first book to be released by audiobook first and then released in print after. If you enjoy fantasy stories, I'd suggest that one. Tamora Pierce usually writes in quartets, and the main character has been introduced in earlier ones, but the book still has enough information to get you the background as it were. There are a number of different voices for the dialogue, which helps keep the tone from being too monotonous, as I've found with other audiobooks.
Oh, also the audio book for Anthony Bourdain's A Cook's Tour or another book he has Kitchen Confidential. I'm not usually interested in people going around the world and talking about the food there, but these were amazing. It's a bit of an education in history and current culture, and the views of a professional cook he's quite the character! Also, one of the few audio books where I thought that the author did a fantastic job reading his own work.
I recommend any James Lee Burke book read by Bill Patton. The books are cop mysteries - set in New Iberia La. The voice is amazing.

History of Love is a great one to listen to. I also loved People of the Book and Year of Wonders both by Geraldine Brooks.
Libby, I added History of Love to my audible wish list from another post where you mentioned listening. Will also add the Geraldine Brooks titles as well. Thanks!
I don't listen to books, but my husband does sometimes when he has long drives. He listened to The Passage by Justin Cronin The Passage and liked that a lot (I read it and loved the book). He played some of it for me in the car, and it sounds like it's well done.
I'm listening to Unbearable Lightness by Portia De Rossi. Excellent in her own voice. I don't listen to audios often. I have this book and was reading it when I saw the audio at the library. I thought I would return it right away, but I'll probably finish the audio.

Find I like the nonfiction better on audio most of the time.
If you are looking for non-fiction, my husband enjoyed Never Have Your Dog Stuffed: And Other Things I've Learned and Born Standing Up: A Comic's Life. Since they are read by the author, Alda and Martin add a little zing to them.
I am listening to Fall of Giants by Ken Follett - loving it! It was great company travelling to Wales and back.
