So (to give an example) I will start.
I nominate Laurie R. King who has two series
The Kate Martinelli series: http://www.goodreads.com/series/42220...
and The Mary Russell series: http://www.goodreads.com/series/40966...
as well as some stand alones. (My favorite is Folly. Might be one of my all time favorite mysteries!) So there is a lot to choose from.

I vote Enid Blyton's The Magic Faraway Tree

The nominations are different this month, Tyele. You need to nominate an author, and it must be an author that writes Mysteries, Thrillers or Crime novels.

Can you add a few links please, Louisa?

How about some classic Edgar Wallace, there is a plethora of cheaply available titles to choose fromIt would be good if the screened MO was dropped for the voting as personally, I feel disinclined to vote under that handicap - takes away all the fun.
oops, forgot which forum i was in. Sorry guys!

Hahaha! You know you are in too many groups when...

We had a few months of strange happenings in the voting (not just in this forum either), so we decided to "hide" the votes. I was thinking about leaving it open this month and see if the situation has improved!

I was thinking of nominating Val McDermid, but as i see Louisa got there before me, i'd like to suggest Stephen Booth, who sets his detective books in my back yard, the Peak District National Park. The first book of the series is Black Doghttp://www.stephen-booth.com/
I nominate Michael Connelly.Since reading his THE CONCRETE BLONDE many moons since I have been a big fan of his. He is the best crime and thriller writer writing. I know of no one who compares. Although he is prolific and his characters and plots get bogged with sentimentality, they are well worth wading through for the experience of the whole. The Concrete BlondeMichael Connelly
I nominate Jane Haddam who writes the Gregor Demarkian series, the Armenian/ American ex-FBI profiler. She started with a holiday themed series, in that the story was set during a specific holiday, but has changed that since. A perfect Dec one would be Not a Creature was Stirring
I'd recommend Cody Mcfadyen,Shadow Manand his follow ups The Darker Side,Abandoned and The Face of Death
I would like to nominate Ruth Downie and her Gaius Petreius Ruso series set in Roman Britain. There are three books in the series in print now and a fourth publishing in December. The first book in the series is Medicus. http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/293...
I also nominate Cody McFayden because he has written one of the most thrilling mysteries series I have ever read. His books are stand alone, but if your read them in order the characters evolve more smoothly.1) Shadow Man
2) The Face of Death
3) The Darker Side,
4) Abandoned
I love Robert Crais... his Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series are great and he also has a couple of stand-alones. Robert Crais
I would like to nominate Reginald Hill. As well as the Dalziell & Pascoe series there are several stand alone novels that are interesting to readReginald Hill
I wan to nominate Edge by Jeffery Deaver. Edge: A Novel. I love the one shots he does and can't wait to read this myself. It would be even better if I could discuss this with others here.

Chris, we're nominating just authors this month. Do you want to nominate Deaver?

Oh yes then. Deaver is a great author and has a ton of great mystery thrillers to choose from. I nominate Jeffer Deaver.
Jeffery DeaverHere is the link to his author page and few of my favorites. Sorry for not including it in my last post. The Bone CollectorThe Bodies Left BehindThe Cold Moon
Joanne Fluke is who I would like to nominate. Her Hannah Swensen series is perfect for the month of December into mid-January with its comfort and coziness.

Hi IHayes, I'm confused. If someone nominates an author do you have to nominate another one or just vote on one someone else nominated?
Hi Judy, On Dec. 3rd Hayes will set up a poll with all the authors that have been nominated and everyone will get one vote on which author will be our "group read author".
If someone has already nominated the author you would have nominated you can either nominate someone else or just wait for the voting.

The Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series is one of my favorite series. I haven't read Folly yet, but I'll put it on my list for next year upon your recommendation. I may even own it. Geez.
I nominate Cody McFayden who has the following series:The Smoky Barrett Series: The Darker Side, Shadow Man, Face Of Death (Cd)Lib, Abandoned.
I just loved this series and Smoky Barrett is one of my favorite characters.
Chris
There's a list of the nominated authors at the bottom of the first post. Check the list so you can avoid duplicate nominations!

I might need a little help with that, haven't added links before. You might have to post an idiot's guide!

Really easy Louisa.
1) Go to you message. In the bottom right corner you should see: reply|edit|delete|flag*
2) click "edit", and a comment box will open up with your message already written out.
3) at the top of the comment box you will see:
add book/author
4) click on that and another pop up window will open.
5) fill in the information you want. The easiest thing to do is to type in the title of a book by Val McDermid and click search. Click "add" next to the correct book. Then hit the author tab, and McDermid's name should already be there and click "add" next to that too. Both of the links will appear auto-magically at the bottom of your message.
6) dont forget to click the grey "edit post" button under the comment box, otherwise your changes will not be saved.

I nominate Margaret Frazer. She has two medieval mystery series: Dame Frevisse and Joliffe Players. From time to time the two series overlap. The first six books or so were written by two authors, and then the Margaret portion dropped out. Later books in the Frevisse series are much better than the early ones.http://www.margaretfrazer.com/index.html
Gerrie wrote: "I nominate Lee Child."
Dalene already nominated Lee Child. Do you want to nominate another author?

I nominate Anne Perry she has two series. One with the Victorian policeman Thomas Pitt and his high-born wife Charlotte and another series, which I haven't gotten to read yet with private detective William Monk and nurse Hester Latterly. William Monk and Hester Latterly is also set in the Victorian era and earlier than Thomas and Charlotte's time if I am not mistaken.Yes, just double checked my information and Monk and Hester Latterly's adventures take place 35 years before those of Thomas and Charlotte's.
The Cater Street HangmanThis is the first book for Thomas and Charlotte.
The Face of a Strangeris the beginning novel for William Monk and Hester Latterly.
Henrietta wrote: "I nominate Anne Perry she has two series. One with the Victorian policeman Thomas Pitt and his high-born wife Charlotte and another series, which I haven't gotten to read yet with pr..."She's also got a series about WWI and it looks like a series of Christmas stories.
Thanks, JanC! I've read from her Victorian series, but didn't know she had started a WWI series. Something new for my tbr pile.

December-January Group Read: Nominate an Author
Nominations open from Nov 28 to Dec 3;
Voting open from Dec 3 to Dec 9;
Reading period from Dec 15, 2010 to Jan 14, 2011
This month we will try something a little different. Each member of the group can nominate an author . The winning author will be the "theme" for the group read and the discussion will revolve around any or all of the author's books.
Don't forget that the nominator of the winning author will be the discussion leader, so nominate an author that you know pretty well. No self nominating, please.
Please nominate authors who have written at least 4 books, which will make it easier for everyone to find something to read. Include the link to the author (using the "add book/author" link tool above the comment box), and the link to the series, or at least the link to the first book in the series, and/or any favorite stand alones.
