Emma (zeeberg) When the word AIDS or HIV is mentioned, some people tend to freak.

Now, I have never personally eperienced it, but I have seen a show about it and read some different articles. Apparently, some people get thrown out of public pools, schools, kindergardens, Public bathrooms etc. 'cause they're suffering from AIDS or HIV. Some kids with HIV are picked on in school and threatened. People are sometimes afraod to touch, even be near a person with HIV or AIDS.

Personally, I think that is so, so wrong. They're sick, but they're people just like the rest of us. If anything they should be treated with more respect and care than others, seeing as they're fighting a daily fight against death. You wont get HIV/AIDS by hugging or kissing a person with it. You also wont get it by bathing in the same pool or using the same toilet. I think treating someone badly because of a sickness they have is horrible. If anything, the persons who do that are the ones who are sick.

What do you think? Do you think it's okay to treat people with HIV/AIDS that way? How should they be treated? Do you know anyone with HIV/AIDS.

Lauren A lady with HIV came into my school once and gave a talk about this, about how people treated her, she talked about how she got broken up with as soon as her boyfriend found out she had it and how other people treat her differently now just like you described. She talked about how she is a normal person and she is fighting through it, and i think that it is discusting how people treat those living with HIV or AIDS, for all the ubove reasons, its not easily cought so i dont see why people panic over it, and if a person has a serious illness they should be treated better than before if anything, i would want to be conforted if i found out i had HIV or AIDS.

message 5: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Yeah. Well, I've never actually talked to a person who held something against people with AIDS. But I think it's sick that people would. Do they do the same with people who have other terminal diseases?

message 6: by meri (new)

meri (meri_is_a_saltedfish) | 127 comments nah...they love cancer patients...they just think that people who have AIDS are dirty people (you know, bicthes)...that's how a lot of people in my community view them...it's as if they want to have that kind of illness...it just made me angry whenever i touch this topic..how could they be so close-minded?!

message 7: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) I agree. It's sick. Even if they're against sex, people with AIDS/HIV don't neceserrily get it from sex. They can inherit it.

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 470 comments Oh believe me, the immaturity only gets worse in high school.

message 13: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Ehm... I'm not in High School, so I can't confirm or not. I'm in gymnasium though, which is ages 16-19 (mostly), and people here are alright. I mean, of course we act like dorks most of the time, goofing around. But people are generally serious about problems in the world, and education, and politics and stufff.

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 470 comments Nono. It's like this
So in middle school the immaturity is really stupid
and then through ages
14-15/16, things are pretty bad. Nobody really cares.
Then whoa! Once you're a junior, about 16, things get better and you can actually have an intelligent conversation.
Now, I'm a senior(17-18), and we're all super immature, all the time, but I guess we also talk about relevant things...

So. Yeah. I'm not sure what my point is.

message 15: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Well, I'm 17 too, and in gymnasium. And I have to say this: If you reach this age and think you're too cool to be a kid, then, in my opinion, you're wasting your life. Though it's important to take things seriously and use your brain, it's important to have fun and do crazy things too. It's important to life.

well i have seen alot of different school around the world.. and the people over there loves to segregate and put a label.. over here its not like that.. sure people have their friends group.. but generaly everyone knows each other in their school.. i knew almmost everyone in my school.. and my school had above 500 students :)
plus people over here are super friendly and we dont realy care about person background colour race or what kind of disease they are infected with.

Emma (zeeberg) A couple of wuestions here for you Fariha:

When you say "over there" and "over here" what are you reffering to exactly?

And when you say you have seen a lot of different schools, is that because you have been to these schools?

And by the by (heehee), neither do we here. I'm curently in a school with more than 600 people, and I've talked, chatted, lauged, etc. with a lot og them, though I have a hard time remembering their names ;) And I just started this year.

Fariha (damn you SketchUp!!) (fariha1234) | 1212 comments by over here i mean pakistan
by over there i mean mostly schools in us.. i have bin there for a day or 2 but couldnt stand all the stupid labeling, i find our school systems much better!

lol i know what you mean! i recognize them by their faces mostly :P.. but its fun when everyone knows one another ryte!

message 21: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) I like my school system best :) I think it often depends on where you grew up. I've been to an american high school too, plus I have friends who live there, and friends who've stayed there for a year on exchange student programs.

I dunno.. Sometimes it's great that people know each other and know who you are and stuff.. But other times it's not so great.

message 22: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) LOL, I remember saying hi to a hundred people as I walked thru holidays. names, though? erm.. no idea :P I suck at remmebering names!

message 23: by Anna (new)

Anna Banana | 156 comments Ugh, i can't even begin to describe how much I despise people who does that kind of stuff. And to sick people!! ARGH. Thankfully, I have never met one such person.
