Reading and enjoying the first book in the series, The Crown Conspiracy, right now. I definitely plan on reading the second next month.
Not sure. I haven't read the first book yet and I don't like to jump into series in the middle. Plus I'm still under my no new books to the end of the year ban. I've gotten confirmation that my no new books ban means even those that are free. *grin*
Finished the first one recently, and really enjoyed it. Hopefully I'll be able to read it along with everybody next month.
For those who are not familiar with the series - You can definitely read Book #2 without reading Book #1 - This book has been in a number of bookclubs that have done just that. There are appopriate cross refenences to any important information you need to know about from Book #1.So glad that this was the winner - I was starting to feel like Susan Lucci ;-)
Looking forward to the discussion.
I read this in April 2009. My review found here. I won't be re-reading but may join in the discussions.
I'll have to check out book 1, I can't stand reading out of order. This is a series I've been meaning to check out.
I have just started reading this series. I am reading Wintertide right now. I finished Avempartha Thanksgiving weekend.

Y'all need to look no further than the thread in this group for the series: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...
There's even a discount for GR members if you follow the links. And they're personally signed copies if you order from the author's site.

Nikki wrote: "does it work to read book 2 and then book 1 or are they sequential? I just ordered them and plan to participate in discussion in January! I know many many people who have read them 'in reverse' - mainly because they started with Avempartha and liked it so much they wanted to know what came before.
That being said - they are sequential - so reading book 2 will provide some "spoilers" to book 1 - so if you can read in sequence you should - but if you "miss out" on book 1 you won't be "lost" as anything that happened in it that you need to know about is revealed -- you'll just miss some of the "inside jokes" that readers of 1 will get a kick out of.
Yes, as a "small press" offering it generally is not "sitting in the bookstores" - you can have them order it for you, or go to an online source like Amazon B&N or book despository, or you can get signed copies (15%) from this link:http://www.michaelsullivan-author.com...
Getting it in the bookstore won't be a problem soon as this series has been picked up by one of the big 6 NY publishers. Once they put out their version (won't happen until Fall of 2011) it will be in every bookstore around - or so the theory goes ;-)

Hmmm . . . I like what I've heard so far of book one. I'm wondering if I should just hold of until next fall for those easy to get copies. Do you know if they will be in massmarket paperback?

Yeah!! This is a FANTASTIC book - so glad it won - this is a "must read" and I can't wait to talk to others about it.
OMG!! Just found out that Book #5 of the Series: The Emerald Storm is a 2010 GoodReads Choice Awards Nominee for Fantasy!! For those that don't know Michael is published through an "indie" press - and is the only non large press book in this list! Here are some of the others listed several NYT Bestselling authors!! - Weeks, Sanderson, Jordan, Guy Gavriel Kay, Brett...Unreal!Voting is open through the end of the year: Vote here
Zero chance of winning against such heavy weights - but it is truly an honor to be in the same company!
Read the whole series so far. Love it! I don't think I'll reread Avempartha at this time, but I'll watch the discussion and comment if I have anything to add to it.
I read Avempartha because of the free offer, and because I don't like skipping around a series, I read The Crown Conspiracy first ... good thing too, since although Avempartha stands alone, it does include spoilers on the first book, which was a dandy fantasy.
Started it but after reading this thread I am going to get the first one in the series then read both.
I'm so excited...I'm even going to go back and do a re-read even though I've read it so many times in the past.
Shera, do you have a ereader? The ebooks available from the link here on GR are very well priced. Now that I have to watch what I buy I am so happy when I find great books for a great price.I have never read a series out of order before, but I started Avempartha a couple days ago without reading the first. I am having no trouble keeping up even though I missed the first. I am just over halfway and I think it is very original and entertaining so far.
I'll be on board with Avempartha. Have not read the first book in series but I have heard rumor it is acceptable to jump right into number two.
You'll learn a lot of how the first book ended, so if you're a fast reader, it's a good idea to go for both, IMHO.
I'm currently reading Avempartha. I found the first book meh, but am generally liking this one better. Also - I agree with stormhawk. There are a lot of spoilers for the first book in the second, so I wouldn't want to read them out of order, personally.

If you hurry, there may still be free ebook versions: Kindle | Nook | Also available for ipad on iBookstore
