John Carroll (johncarroll) | 27 comments I can't decide which is proper, or why:

"The tunnel was about a hundred feet long with a door at the end."

"The tunnel was about one hundred feet long with a door at the end."

Pat Whitaker (whitakerbooks) | 54 comments In my (uneducated) opinion, this depends on your writing style. I would generally use both, "one hundred" in narrative and "a hundred" in dialogue - although the latter is dependent on the character of the speaker.

The big thing is to be consistent.

John Carroll (johncarroll) | 27 comments Okay. I'll read it a couple of times and see what sounds the best. Thank you Pat. :)

Jin | 8 comments I agree with Pat, narrative vs. dialogue?

John Carroll (johncarroll) | 27 comments Okay. It's in narrative and the "one hundred" does sound better. I'll keep it separated for each. :)
