Finished by David Lodge last night. Bookmarks gave it 4 stars and I concur. I initially put this on my TBR list because I have done a lot of work with medical interpreters of both foreign spoken languages and American SIgn Language and I thought it might be interesting from that perspective (it is a novel about a man who is losing his hearing). But it was more than that - it was a touching and humorous story about a man who learns to come to terms with his flaws, his own aging, managing an elderly parent and other life perils.
