Joan Lerner (goodreadscomamonguswomencom) | 4 comments I am often asked why I named my novel, "Among Us Women." This ah ha moment came to me one day when I realized that how often women will preface a revelation of an intimate problem with the words "among us women." The three women characters in the book have heart wrenching problems like an abusive husband, a dilemma about having an abortion and homosexuality.
It is available on amazon.com/amonguswomen and you can learn more on my website www.amonguswomen.com. It is available in paperback as well as a kindle edition.

Karen B. (raggedy11) I can't afford to buy your books anymore because of my limited income. I'll admit I am begging. But if any author wants to give me a copy of your book I will happily read and review it here. I do participate in the goodreads giveaways. I am hoping to save for an e-reader, but don't see having that as soon as I would like. Sorry to beg, but I know there are authors and publishers out there who give away books to get reviews.

I feel so greedy, but like I said. limited income. on disability which doesn't pay in July and August.

thanks for putting up with my begging.

Hi Karen, no need to feel bad, we've all gone through bad times. Don't even want to mention how often I had to borrow books from my friends who could afford to buy them. Anyway, in my writings is the first 3 chapters of my ebook "The Mystery of Hurtleberry House" which is a Christian "cozy" mystery. Check it out and if you're interested I'll be happy to send you a .pdf copy and you can review it. I'll just need to know where you want me to send it. By the way, you don't need an ereader, both amazon and barnes and noble let you download a free application to your computer so you can read e-books there. There are also a lot of e-books you can download for free

message 14: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) thank you so much. I do have the app from Amazon but I have great difficulty reading online. Kind of hard to explain. I'm one of those who gets something good that's 5 or 6 pages and has to print it to read it comfortably. But for some reason, PDF format I don't have the same problem. But if you wait, I think I am going to get an e-reader. I just came right out today and asked God for one. Crazy I know. But yesterday I learned that I don't have to be raptured to be in God's presence. I am enraptured if I choose to allow myself to be with Him. He never moves, but sometimes I look away. So I mean who else could I ask? So I asked Him and I have faith maybe 1/100th of a mustard seed *LOL* but strange I did find a contest to enter a few hours ago where the prize is a Nook. And I did enter it. He works in mysterious ways. Odd too because I wanted a Nook or Kindle as combination mother's day/birthday present and my daughter who has the money acted like I was out of my mind. But the contest ends June 15th and my bday is June 16 so that just might be how He answers the prayer. So just wait for now. thank you thank you.

message 15: by C.L. (new)

C.L. Okay, just let me know and I hope God answers your prayer. Feel free to check out the first three chapters in my writings to make sure the book interests you.

Karen, hard times abound, no need to apologize. If you'd like to read a sample of my book, and like the sample, let me know and I'll hook you up. I'd love to get a review. It's a YA fantasy, not sure if that's your cup of tea.

Trine Daely (TrineDaely) | 5 comments No worries, I know how it is!

message 23: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) Thanks Trine. That is one of the main reasons I want an e-reader. I had asked my family to give me one for my birthday. Oh my goodness, you'd think they cost about $500! The two daughters and ex husband all think that it's a luxury. I also have a problem with my shoulder so if I have a large print hardback book (which is what I prefer) I have to prop my arm up because I have trouble holding the book. Sorry right now I am really mad at the three of them. I guess I'm annoyed at the younger daughter because she is a recently published author and I KNOW she has the money, not that I'd want her to go into her advance that she might have invested but come on. The lowest priced Kindle or Nook is not THAT high. Sorry about that.

message 24: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) Trine, not only that but if you have had big book signings at Barnes and Noble, don't you think you could ask them for a deal for the revenue she's brought in to them? And NO I won't say who she is or her book title, after my trash talk. *LOL*

message 25: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) I apologize to the group because I don't like to say anything bad about anyone usually. In fact, recently I did a review of a book by one of my FAVORITE authors and had to give it a one star and felt guilty! Anyway we will just blame it on my being a "mature" woman who is tired and in pain at the moment.

message 26: by Trine (new)

Trine Daely (TrineDaely) | 5 comments Wal-Mart is now selling Kindles and Nooks, too bad they got rid of layaway. My Kindle was bought with my tax return money, that was my big purchase this year.

Since they usually pay for author appearances, I guess she could have negotiated for a Nook as pay.

Don't sweat it Karen, I promise I deal with far crankier people on a daily basis (especially if I include dealing with myself!).

message 27: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) Thanks Trine, every once in a while I just need to dump. She is such a good arguer though. We have told her she would have made an excellent lawyer and she has a way of making me feel guilty for wanting an e-reader. She is one of those who talk an Eskimo into buying two freezers, and I don't mean salesmanship I mean through logic.
Can't tell you how happy I am that she has done so well. Walmart has them? Wonder if they are cheaper than through Amazon and B&N would you know? Seems Walmart has almost everything cheaper. *LOL*

message 28: by Trine (last edited May 29, 2011 05:36AM) (new)

Trine Daely (TrineDaely) | 5 comments I think it was about the same. Only difference is you don't have to wait for it. The one here had both Kindle and Nook, as well as a few other e-readers that are cheaper. I've heard good things about some of the Sony ones. Doesn't hurt to go look at them in the store and figure out exactly which one you prefer the look, feel, and features of. There's always programs to convert e-books to a preferred format.

Sarah Kernochan (professorbunny) | 1 comments Hello everyone...

My new book, Jane Was Here, comes out next week.

Jane Was Here by Sarah Kernochan

A little bit about Jane Was Here:

A mysterious young woman calling herself Jane turns up in a small New England town. She claims a fragmentary memory of growing up in this place, yet she has never been here before in her life. Upon her arrival, strange and alarming things begin happening to some of the town's inhabitants. As Jane's memories reawaken piece by piece, they carry her back to a long-buried secret, while the townspeople hurtle forward to a horrific event when past and present fatally collide.

You can read the first 7 chapters for free through Goodreads ebooks.

Karen B. (raggedy11) Elizabeth, if you can save the money I strongly suggest the Kindle with Offers. It's 114. The offers don't get in the way of reading. But they have had some wonderful deals that I have taken advantage of. I got a Father's Day gift for $30 in the tools section and they took $20 off when I redeemed the coupon. There was also an order to spend $10 and get a $10 gift card. I have a few special offers right now that I wrote and grabbed before their offer expiration, but the redeeming of them doesn't have to be right away. I am debating on a skin. The skin is 19.95 and I think it's a $10 credit but not sure. Problem is I got spoiled and loved the Nokey Skins (the decal covers the keys and the letters/symbols are written on the decal) It's so much easier for me to read.
There's also a deal right now which I believe is spend $10 on special offer e-books and get a$10 gift card. All of these offers were only available to those who purchased the Kindle with Special Offers.
