So I was looking through the topic threads, and I was surprised to see that we have no topic about amazing book covers.
So here it is.
Share with us your favorite book covers. Covers that will blow our minds!

Kate | 8205 comments Dial-A-Ghost by Eva Ibbotson Island of the Aunts by Eva Ibbotson The Secret of Platform 13 by Eva Ibbotson and pretty much any of Eva Ibbotson's books illustrated by Kevin Hawkes. He's such a good illustrator.

I also like Double Trouble Squared (Starbuck Family Adventure, #1) by Kathryn Lasky (Shadrach in the fireplace is great), First Test (Protector of the Small, #1) by Tamora Pierce (although that could have to do with the hours I spent drawing it for a project in fifth grade), and Ginger Pye by Eleanor Estes

I'm sure I'll think of more to come, but these just popped into my head.

I really like the twin covers for "Desperation" and "Regulators"

However, this cover of Misery is pretty cool, too: description

Moving away from Stephan King books, I really like Twilight (Twilight, #1) by Stephenie Meyer and Eclipse (Twilight, #3) by Stephenie Meyer

Also on the list, the Australian cover for Once: description

Kate | 8205 comments Oh! I just thought of another good one. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak So simple, but so good.

Kate, the Australian covers for The Book Thief is very good as well: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

message 7: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Those Book Thief covers are good. I guess it's just a great book in general.

message 8: by Jaiden♥ (new)

Jaiden♥ (helloimjaiden) | 301 comments Twilight has really good covers, although I'm not a fan of it.

message 9: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments The covers are interesting, but they have nothing to do with the books. (at least the first one doesn't) In my opinion the cover should be at least slightly related.

Kate, I believe the cover: Twilight (Twilight, #1) by Stephenie Meyer has a little to do with the book. This is what I made of it:
It symbolizes the apple that Adam and Eve ate in the garden of Eden. That apple is also known as the forbidden fruit, and Edward and Bella's love is 'forbidden'.

message 12: by Jaiden♥ (new)

Jaiden♥ (helloimjaiden) | 301 comments Ooh really? I didn't know that, that's cool!

Interesting. I still think the connection should be a little more obvious, but I will admit to being biased. I agree about Taylor's covers. I love good cover art. It's so fun to look at.

message 16: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I just thought of these... The Doll People by Ann M. Martin The Meanest Doll in the World by M., Martin Ann

(Taylor's cover for A Corner of the Universe reminded me)

message 17: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Thanks, guys! Cover art does a lot for a book... Plus, Kate's right: it's fun to look at. That's why I have all of my shelves on "covers" view... :)

Oh, I also love this cover for Pastworld
description

Taylor, you are spot on.
My shelfs are on 'covers' as well. Covers are extremely important. They are often what persuades me to pick up a book.
For example, Pastworld. I LOVE that cover, it caught my attention, and is one of the reasons I brought it.

Elizabeth Kolodziej (ejkolodziej) | 2 comments this is the cover for my book. if you click on it it will get bigger :) Vampyre Kisses by Elizabeth J. Kolodziej

I think the coolest cover I've seen would have to be The Price of Trust.

I do too so far. I'm reading the first book. I don't really get the first book's cover though. Is that supposed to be Tally? Isn't Tally supposed to be ugly-the whole point of becoming a pretty?

Jody Kihara (jodykihara) | 12 comments Ooh, great thread topic, I'm so into book art, and collect some books just for their covers! (And if I order a specific edition, and one with a different cover arrives, I'm gutted!)

Is the topic limited to YA? Because I love old pulp paperback covers like
Sabre-Tooth (Modesty Blaise #2) by Peter O'Donnell I, Lucifer (Modesty Blaise Series, #3) by Peter O'Donnell I, Lucifer (Modesty Blaise, #3) by Peter O'Donnell The Velvet Vixen by Carter Brown Assignment The Girl in the Gondola (Sam Durell #19) by Edward S. Aarons

My current YA faves are Fire (The Seven Kingdoms Trilogy, #2) by Kristin Cashore Ingo (Ingo, #1) by Helen Dunmore The Legend Of The Wandering King by Laura Gallego García The Secret Countess by Eva Ibbotson Angeline by Karleen Bradford

Thats kinda the point. She isnt actually *UGLY*, shes just like a normal person, but because she is told so by society, she believes she is hideous.

message 28: by Jody (new)

Jody Kihara (jodykihara) | 12 comments I think the third cover is particularly good, although I don't seem to remember the Specials having facial tattoos...?

Rarietty | 319 comments Oh. I get it now. I'm now over halfway done and they explained that ugly people in their future are like normal people now. Ohhh...

I had never seen her illustrated covers, only her YA books that have photos on the covers... I'll have to go looking for the ones you mentioned!

message 31: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments On a similar topic, is The Secret Countess the same as Countess Below Stairs? I know Magic Flutes became the Reluctant Heiress.

message 32: by Jody (new)

Jody Kihara (jodykihara) | 12 comments Yes, several of hers got renamed - I guess they thought the newer names were more interesting/intriguing.

message 33: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I would have stuck with the originals. It's less confusing. And I know I like the name Magic Flutes better, as well as Countess Below Stairs.

message 34: by Jody (new)

Jody Kihara (jodykihara) | 12 comments The Secret Countess sounds mysterious, which I like... but I agree about Magic Flutes. I think it's weird in general to re-title books; it's kind of like saying we have to update everything for the next generation. Whereas classics are classics!

message 35: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I agree about renaming books being weird-sometimes it works/is necessary but for the most part, you should just leave well enough alone. There's nothing wrong with the name the Secret Countess, but it sounds more like a pure romance story, I think, while the Countess Below Stairs...well, I think it adds another layer.

I really like these covers. I don't know what the cover is for Trauma Queen, which comes out around the 27th, but supposedly it's not going to be the same with the jumping girl minus face.

I love Island of the Blue Dolphins!!! It is sooo sad though! I read it 2 times!!

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

As a self published first time author I knew nobody and really struggled to find someone to do my cover. I was lucky enough to stumble upon an incredibly talented young art student called A J Hateley who produced a wonderful cover for me. Jake West The Keeper of the Stones by M.J. Webb Sorry for mentioning my own book but this thread gives credit to the illustrator and I think it's credit that's long overdue and richly deserved? Thanks
