I finished it!! I won't give anything away and I will post some comments once some other people leave posts, but I am so glad that we read this novel, it was really fantastic!!
LOL. I finished it this week too, Trisha. I think once you got to section 16 or 17 or so, it didn't make sense ot put it down anymore.I actually took extensive notes as I was reading, btu haven't posted my thoughts for this week yet either.
I'm dying to know what all of your final thoughts, everyone! This is my all-time-favorite book and I've been trying to bite my tongue and not say too much throughout. I hope you all loved it as much as I did! The characters are like family when you revisit and reread. lol
I finished this section last night and boy was it a doozie!! I wanted to keep reading but I was in the tub and I was so prunned I had to get out...lol I'm planning on finishing the book today. I can't wait another week to see how the boys make out. I'm praying that Tom finds Stu and takes him home. Then again, I think Tom had already gotten well past that point.
I actually remember crying at this point in the book, which hadn't happened to me at all at any other point.
Yeah, I think, now that I can look back on the whole thing, Stu ended up being my favorite character, with Glen Bateman a close second.
Glen made me proud! I'll leave it at that since I can't remember if that was the end of 17 or the start of 18. He is a good, strong, smart man.
Agreed. And I have a soft spot in my heart for intellectuals--his little tangents about the beginnings of a new society all throughout the book made me very fond of him.
If the story had continued and in a different direction I could easily see Glen's character evolving to include some type of leadership position more then what he did previous to the trip.
Yes, I sort of think he would make the perfect "right hand man"--sort of the equivalent of the White House Chief of Staff. Not the person who is the face of the government, but the behind the scenes guy and trusted advisor who helps the leader make responsible, informed decisions.
Wow.. I had completely forgotten the details of the ending. I was saddened by Stu's accident, but knowing he's got Kojak looking out for him, makes it all a bit better if possible.
And for the record..
I truly HATE LLoyd. He's a trigger happy sonofob*tch and it broke my heart knowing Glen lost his life to him. But at least he went out laughing.
And Flagg got to be scared now!! I love that!
Glen went out laughing and knowing he got Flagg! Flagg wasn't expecting Glen's contempt. He was way too arrogant to expect that!
Yeah, but he died with a whole lot of dignity, and probably in a much less painful way than he would have otherwise... Glen was totally my hero after that.
