For half of the year, till the end of June, I was overwhelmed with work and academic courses, so I had very little time for writing. I even failed the April Script Frenzy - barely got past ten pages. But I wrote some good stuff in the OFW challenges, and produced a few decent short stories for an future anthology. After that, writing picked up. I wrote first drafts of two novels, including the 2010 NaNo one, and I'm in the middle of editing one of my backlog.
2011 will be the year when all of this writing and editing actually starts to produce some income (he said hopefully). I'll be editing and submitting the 12 short stories as an anthology, editing and submitting the six novels that have completed first drafts, re-editing and re-submitting (notice a common thread here) the four completed film scripts.
In addition, I have four more film scripts, two short stories, a novella, a novel and a proposed linked anthology of stories in various stages of preparation, all of which I intend to complete this year.
No courses planned, no major changes in work schedule, so with luck and barring injuries, all should be well...
I accomplished two of my greatest goals in 2010:1) I finally completed my first book, a YA fantasy novella that took me about three years to write. I edited it, and got it ready for submission.
2) I was published! That same book, "The Chosen," was published by Solstice on December 14, 2010. I am now officailly a children's author :)
I can't imagine anything topping this in 2011. I only hope to complete the next story in "The Chosen" series, which I've already started, and the book I started writing in the 2009 NaNo. I would love to see both of these books in print, traditional or electronic, by the end of 2011.
Happy new year everyone! I hope all of your goals for 2011 come true.
Congratulations, Andrea. Well done indeed.Raises glass in toast...
That is a tremendous accomplishment.
That sounds great, to both of you. And congrats, Andrea! And I'm sure that 2011 can top this year, and probably in ways that you wouldn't expect.
Reflecting on my own writing this year, I didn't write nearly as much as I expected or wanted to. However, I know how to kill two birds with one stone and writing a historical fiction novel by transforming a story that I was going to edit and possibly rewrite anyway. Also, I managed to write 25 pages of a script for script frenzy, which was more than last year by about five pages, and this time not winning was not due to a simple lack of motivation. I successfully completed Nanowrimo for the third year in a row, and most of it was written in about a week. I learned that I am capable of writing a 10k short story, although that's not that short. I also ended up with 13 stories, some of which definitely have potential after editing. Finally, and one thing that I'm quite happy about, is that I feel like my writing in French has greatly improved, even though I didn't write that much outside of school.
As for 2011... I think that I will just try to keep writing whatever I can, and defintely get going on that historical fiction...

I wrote A LOT this year, despite a few months where I didn't write much. I made up for it at the beginning of the year, when I was editing Soulfire like crazy for the ABNA contest, and in November, where I completed NanoWrimo 2010 :) Despite ups and downs, overall, I am really proud of myself for this year. I did some things I never thought I could, but especially TWO major things.1- I made it to the top 2,000 out of 10,000 entries in the ABNA contest - meaning I beat about 80% of the competition, which, while a far ways from winning, still means I beat a lot of people :)
2 - I wrote 50,000 words in a novel in one month (granted, that novel isn't finished and needs A LOT of work, but hey, I'll take it)
So, overall, I think 2010 was a pretty productive year. Different than 2009, but I'm still really happy with it. I didn't do everything I wanted to, but what I did do, I'm happy with.
And so.... I guess for 2011 I want to work more on editing/finishing my preexisting novels, (the Soulfire Trilogy, my Nano 2010 story, etc.,) and then work on getting published! :)
Well, I didn't accomplish as much writing-wise as I'd hoped. There were a lot of things I meant to finish that I … didn't. At least I finished writing Jump! But I did start a few stories that seem promising––like Unraveling, Rage, Sky-Fall, Spill, etc. So I hope to have luck with at least one of those this year.
I also spent a lot of time with Sella and Acacia and Ilana this summer. The most amazing summer of my life. <3 It was a dream come true to be with all of them!
The greatest accomplishment I made this year (and in my life, really) was making the top 100 in the ABNA contest, getting the review from Publishers Weekly and everything. I mean, getting to the top 1% in a contest that was mostly adults? CRAZINESS! It was a really eye-opening experience, like, "Wow … Maybe I have a shot at this writing thing!"
So, I didn't get a ton of writing done, compared to the past few years. However, I still accomplished some pretty important stuff!
As for what I'm going to do in 2011 … Eh, I'm too tired to think about it right now. 12 minutes til 2011! (for me, anyway)
Oh wow....I kinda feel like it was only yesterday that I got the notice to join this group at the beginning of the year!! And now it's already 2011! I feel like I did a lot of writing, though it wasn't what I had expected to write. It was travel notes and journals, poems and short stories, which I had no plan to focus on at the beginning of the year. But I like all of the ones I wrote, even though some of them were homework assignments and required. Haha.
Woot! Congrats everybody for reaching some or all of their goals!I know this year my writing has matured a lot and I know a lot more about it then I did at the beginning of the year, so looking back on my goals, some of them seem just childish in a way.
But I did complete a few and I'm really excited for what 2011 will bring!
I'm still waiting for 2010 to start and its already ended.
Congrats to everyone on meeting your writing goals. I am so proud of each and every one of you.
This year I "have" to put the finishing touches on the second book in the "Sons of Avalon" saga, and I'm also working on the third book in the series.
Wrapped my Mustang around a tree in Jan.; Went on holiday to Cancun in Feb.; been nursing my dog back from Kidney failure since March.
Along the way, I really have been writing...honest :]
Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with in 2011.
Hugs,
Dee Marie

How do you feel about what you wrote in 2010? Did you find things that worked well or didn't work at all? Did you have to change your goals at any point throughout the year? What will you change and what will you keep the same for your writing goals in 2011, if you choose to keep the goals going? If you didn't start in January, then how is your writing coming so far?
You don't have to think about them yet, and you don't even have to post with responses, but you can if you want to.
There are also one or two things maintenance-wise. I'm guessing we're not going to do an overhaul of the group like last year, because I think we've managed to stay pretty well organized. However, as a heads up, the group name will change to "Write in 2011" once the new year starts. If you would like a fresh start with a new topic at the beginning of the new year, please vote yes on this poll. Your old topic will not be deleted, but instead moved to a different folder labeled with something like "2010."
Good luck writing for the next few weeks and into the new year!
