Jessica (jessicashook) Well, after seeing what a huge hit the movie was and hearing was an amazing book Atonement was, I decided to put myself on the list of 60 people waiting in line at the library to read it. Finally, #60 came up and I got the book. the first bit of the book is kind of interesting, where the story is actually developing. Then suddenly, it hit this awful lull...FOR THE REST OF THE BOOK. It was so boring and I wanted to put it down so many times, but knowing what a amazing reviews it had gotten, I really wanted to finish it thinking that it would have to get better. I never felt it. I got to the end and wished that I hadn't wasted my time. The movie was so much better because it was only 2 hours...
Anyone else have an experience like that? I hope I'm not the only one...

Shelley (baron) Hi there, I'm new here but spend alot of my spare time reading. I actually loved Atonement - book and movie, I'm a big Ian McEwan fan. But the one I just couldn't get into that everyone else was raving about was 'The Vitners Luck' by Elizabeth Knox. What did you all think?

I've never finished it either, and I do try to read a lot of Kiwi fiction. Gotta support your own crowd, right?

Susan (sissan) | 5 comments I haven't read The Vitner's luck but atonement I have to say I agree with you jessica, It just wasn't interesting at all. I think the end of the book was good, partly because it ended but also I like the irony and that sense of just simply being too late, but I felt that the book did not even nearly create that sense like the movie did.
