Debbie wrote: "I'm going to start with

I am going to read it for 1 of my face-to-face book clubs. i have avoided it because it is in a series and i heard it is good and then i'm afraid i would get addicted to the series
lol, the series is very addictive so you're right to avoid it. When is your book club starting?P.S. I've always wanted to be in a book club but I don't know how to find one and I don't know many people who love to read so it'd be hard to start one.
One of my book clubs is going to read Hunger Games in April or May. I have been in it for about 3 years. I found out about it through "my connection" at my favorite book store. We meet at the library on the last monday of each month and are called "the monday night book club". Our library has book bags with 8 - 10 copies of the same book for check out to local book clubs which is good so we don't have to buy too many books. The library also hosts a gathering of all the book clubs in Kearney 2 times a year. It is great fun. We list the favorite books of each club for the past 6 months and make suggestions for what books we want the library to get for future bags. The other book club is at my gym. I started it for one of the instructors that was turning 50 and her youngest was leaving the nest for college and she needed something to do. We meet every other month. Funny enough, Beth, the lady we started the club for is now too busy to participate because her son come home with a pregnant girlfriend and she is now the proud grandma of little Harper.
You should talk to your local librarian or your fav book pusher to see if they know of any book clubs. Both my clubs are great fun and it is ok if you don't read the book for whatever reason, you are still welcome.
good luck in your search!
Thanks for the info, Debbie. I called my library branch and they currently do not have a book club :(. I also called my closest Barnes and Nobles (which is ten miles away) and they won't have another book club until February. However, my librarian did say that if I'm serious I could work with the head teen librarian and start something up :D. I still don't know though.
good luck with your reading :) i know what you mean about buying books faster than you read them. i have the same problem. my father made me a bookshelf for this Christmas and it is filled with the books i plan to read as soon as possible.
once again good luck
slow starting this challenge . . . just finished
Sarah's Key and loved it. i really enjoyed the style of switching each chapter from Julia's to Sarah's perspective and time frame. i really missed Sarah once her chapters stopped. I'm starting
Girl in a Blue Dress: A Novel Inspired by the Life and Marriage of Charles Dickens next. i've worked some of my first books of the year into a challenge in Historical Fictionistas too. it was great fun looking through my 2011 tbr shelf to find books that matched up to the different challenges within the challenge!
Hi, Debbie! I just took a look at your books that you plan on reading and they all look so good. I love historical fiction so they all sound like books that I would enjoy. Good luck on your challenge!
That is a good question. :o) There are a few that I really like:The Book Thief
The Four Seasons: A Novel of Vivaldi's Venice
Atonement
Fortune Is a Woman
Those are the ones that I can think of at the moment. What is your favorite hf?
Debbie I also liked Sarah's Key. I believe they are making a movie from it.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1668200/
thanks for the heads up re: movie. it should be heartbreaking. i read Sarah's Key for face-2-face bookclub but our discussion was snowed out and by the time we got together the next month the other girls didn't discuss it much because they had forgotten most of the details. i was so disappointed because i love it. we spent more time discussing Gravity instead, which i found totaly disappointing. side note, Gravity is also being made into a movie with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney and all i can say about that is "what the f*** are they thinking?"
