What books are you reading?
Book of Lost Things by John Connolly
I am reading Sarah by Orson Scott Card. Very interesting historic novel. I am really enjoying it so far. It is neat to get to know his version of Abraham and Sarah and see his ideas about their lives. I highly reccommend it.
I saw that several friends from Church & GR are reading it. I will have to pick it up
I liked the Women of Genesis series, too. Rebekah (the one after Sarah) was my favorite!Right now I am reading "Peace Like a River" by Leif Enger (from seeing a couple of my Goodreads friends read and enjoy it). The writing is simply amazing, the characters instantly likable. My mom read it right before me and thought it was kind of heavy, and I could see that (it's dealing with some hard issues) ... but so far, I really like it.
The Book Thief
The Bell Jar
Choke

I'm starting Island of Flowers by Nora Roberts for a light read. After I finish it I will hopefully start on The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
Kasi: Let me know what you think of Boot Thief.

The Initiate Brother ~ Sean Russel
People of the Eart ~ Kathleen O'Neil Gear and Michael Gear
Kidnapped ~ Stevenson
Stone of Tears ~ Terry Goodkind
Cat's Eye ~ Margret Atwood
The Jungle ~ Upton Sinclair
Water for Elephants
The Fires From Heaven ~ Robert Jordon
The Name of the Rose ~ Eco
Prettymisslara: I am nuts. I read one book to my son everynight for 30-60 minutes. I leave one book at work and read on my two breaks and lunch. I read when the kids do homework & break when they need help (I have missed this but they start school again soon). I read before bed and am alternating between three books usually try to read a chapter a book-which is utterly insane because I usually read three plus chapters and get no sleep. My teen stole Twilight so I am on break until she is done. I really need to cut back the amount of books I read and just concentrate on one book at a time maybe two and leave one at work still.
I am going to have to read Peace like a River I have heard too many good things about it.

I am like 15 pages into The Book Thief and I need it to go somewhere to keep me interested. But we'll see.
I never thought of the car. I will have to add that!
I jsut got Peace like a River at the used bookstore on Saturday. Very excited to read it, along with thousands of others but it's easier for me to read when I own it!
Prettymisslara: Actually reading at the stop lights work great! Thanks a bunch. I am now finding more minutes to read!

I've started The Funhouse by Dean Koontz now. I've been very very picky here lately about books and I think it's beacuse I feel overwhelmed so much by my TBR list...SO, I am going to take it easy and just ready whatever I want to for a while. haha
Hello! Hello! I am new to goodreads and this group. I am always looking for new recommendations and can't believe I didn't find this site before now! lolI am currently reading:
Edith Wharton - Hermione lee (a biography)
First Among Sequels - Jasper Fforde
Wicked - Gregory Maguire
And sporadically the Shadow Rising by Robert Jordan
I have a short attention span sometimes so having a bunch going on at once allows me to drop one for a bit and read something else for awhile..
Jenn: you sound like a bunch of us! Read-a-holics! The best in the world :)
Oh yes, this site will keep me adding and adding to the to read pile... guess it's time to start cutting back on iTunes..lolI've always been a big reader and I read fairly fast, which is lovely when you want to read everything and everything right now..
Now, if only there was a way to not sleep and not go crazy...
I'm reading Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. I really like it so far. I also just started Children of the Mind by Orson Scott Card.
Currently reading House of Leaves and A Dirty Job. I keep having to break from House of Leaves...it's just soooo much work.On stand by I want to read The Book Thief, The Stand and about a billion others. By the time I log off GR there will be even more books I want to read and I'll have changed my mind about what my next one is.
I too am having a hard time with House of Leaves. I have taken a rather long break from it. REally into Heart Shaped Box.
Almost done with heart shaped box. Really good!
I just picked up Annie Proulx's "Close Range: Tales of Wyoming" and Khaled Hosseini's "A Thousand Splendid Suns." I'm about half-way through "Splendid Suns" and thus far I like it!
I just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. At first I had a hard time getting into it but it picked up in the middle. Right now I'm reading Moose: a Memoir of Fat Camp, which is pretty good too.
I am also one of those people that reads multiple books at once...you just never know what you might be in the mood for! Right now, I am in:
Wuthering Heights
The Short Stories of John Cheever
A Prayer for Owen Meany
The Double Bind
On audio (2 hour drive each day):
Lisey's Story
I am reading The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers, and I'm listening to Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. On the back burner is a reread of Eragon by Christopher Paolini.
It's also 1001 books to read before you die.
I just finished Never Let Me Go. It was one of those slow, meandering books. I enjoyed it, but for me it was really only a three star.
I have Inkheart. I am going to start reading it to my son.
Inkheart was great! Now I'm reading Nation by Terry Pratchett. A little different than his usual Diskworld novels, but very good.
Currently reading 'Thanking the Monkey' about animals and how we treat them, 'Paddington abroad', a scrapbook book and put on hold for quite a while, a Dr. Phil...Getting my Master's degree this Friday so then I will have more time to read :-)
Fiona, how's Stiff going? I'm going to start it after I finish My Sister, My Love (Joyce Carol Oates).
I know what you mean Fiona. I read a lot more fiction than nonfiction. I am excited to read Stiff, though. I'm going to read it while reading a fiction book to mix it up a little!
That's what I thought...not a good bedtime story! Bedtime will be for my light fiction book...maybe Twilight.
congrats Christina! That is a wonderful accomplishment! :)
Thanks Emilee, right now I just want it over with. I have to give a lecture this friday so I'm struggling with that while also having the flue (and a 3 month old daughter...!). So really looking forward to getting it done!
I am getting over the flu if it's the same as mine I"m so sorry!
