This topic is open for ranting. Got something you need to get off your chest. Well now you've got a place to rant about it.

I'll start. I went with my step mother to go get her state ID today. After standing in line for nearly two hours we were told that she couldn't take the picture because she was missing some documents. So now I'm aggravated and my feet hurt.
Hmm, I got one. I am working today, New Year's Eve. I was suppose to work from 5p - 3a. Yeah, nope, but I will be working from 8p - 3a; which is my day off so they didn't want to pay $$ for the overtime. I will be losing money and only working 4 hrs of overtime and then about 2 hours of double time and a half. Quite bothersome since we have to come in on our day off and not get serious pay..

Where I live, you have to stand in line to get a ticket. Before they give you your ticket, they review your paperwork, forms, documents. If you don't have everything you need, they tell you to come back. Also, I don't know if I have good DMV luck, but we've never waited more than 1/2 an hour there. I always bring books, but barely get to read them.
Okay, I have decided that I definitely do not get paid enough money to do my job and Obamacare is going to make me become bald. Yes, I feel like ripping my hair out or beating my head against the wall. This entire week I have heard nothing but complaining about peoples copays with their insurance going up. I'm sorry, but I have no say in what the insurance company says you owe to you MD and people need to learn not to shoot the messenger. Just because you yell, scream, and are down right ugly with me is not going to change things or make them better. Is it February yet?
Sounds like you had a bad day, Lacy. I hope you have fun tonight and that tomorrow is a better day for you. Go read a good book and sip a glass of wine or something. :)

Me too. Of course, it does sometimes lead to backtracking the next day... "My bookmark says I'm on chapter 24, but 20-23 are a little fuzzy."
niquea, I just bought Spellweaver. Gah! Maybe I'll take it back and get another book to replace it. You can take books back within a certain time frame and as I just bought it today and haven't read it... I'll just wait till it comes to my library.:(
Lisarenee, if you didn't have a problem with Book 1 and you don't mind a similar story and similar characters in your series books, you might enjoy it.
DRM and e-book formats that are now defunct! Grrr. A couple of years ago I had purchased the Hot Spell collection by Emma Holly, Lora Leigh, Meljean Brook, and Shiloh Walker for $9.95. It was DRM'ed and had this odd file extension that does not seem to work anymore (.etd). I, being too new to e-book formats, thought saving the .etd file would be enough to "back-up" my e-book. Now, the e-book store I had purchase this book from no longer has this book available for download, and I have no access to the book myself. I contacted Customer Service and while they try to be helpful, they are replacing the Hot Spell collection with the Hot Spell title from Harlequin. It's so frustrating!

You know it Sans!! I've got 15 mins left and then I am free for the weekend. There is a bottle of vodka with my name on it and I am going to drink it until I can make myself think that I love my job. Thank goodness I don't have to see the place again until Mon. If I'm really lucky it will be Tues. *please snow, please snow..*
Same here! I'm counting down the minutes. Only 18 more until I leave for the weekend! I really hope you get snowed in on Monday, Lacy. I work in HR and Legal at my company and I hate dealing with the health care stuff. I can't imagine working in it all the time like you do.
niquae wrote: "I want to open a Kindle e-book using Nook Study so that I can take notes and highlight, but...I can't! I feel like throwing something against the wall. Stupid proprietary formatting and DRM'ed e-bo..."Niquae, I read somewhere online that you can do that. It's not easy, it's kind of like hacking into your Nook. I have no clue how to do it though, but I know it can be done.
If you're like me and purchasing books by the dozens.... NEVER...I repeat NEVER look at the total you spend on books on a given year. Let's just say my jaw drop at the total I spent in 2010 and while I now know it is offically offical I have a problem and I fully admit my addiction...I don't plan on stopping buying books anytime soon (I did admit I have a problem lol)...but I am going to try to be more patient and try to read more books from the library.I tend to request books and then go buy them cause I don't want to wait for them especially new releases I just have to have them the day they are released. Plus I read exclusively on my Nook and the ebook selection at Overdrive is lacking most of the times especially with new releases that aren't best sellers. So until they add more of an ebooks selection to the library I guess I'll be using my new found knowledge to motivate me to go to work every morning with a smile on my face. =) Job = Books
Tai, I refuse to add up the total of what I spent on books last year. I don't even know if I could. Not gonna think about it. ^o^
Sans, Now that I have a Nook I get almost all my books from B&N so adding them up was pretty simple I just shouldn't have done it. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. :)
I only spent about $1000 last year. But that includes children's books. It was the first year I put myself on a budget. During the school year- curse you Scholastic Book Clubs!- I don't have much money left over after buying kids books.
I feel so mad about this book. I feel irrationally mad, which isn't good when you try to write a somewhat objective review *coughutterfailurecough* Why do I still feel like stomping around the house shaking my book at the walls?
Wait, niquae. Why did the book make you angry, or is that your review? I'm missing something here...
lol. The book did, specifically a secondary character who seemed to have done an about-face from a previous book and really made me dislike a book I had been looking forward to reading. But I feel like I'm being mad irrationally so...
niquae wrote: "*WARNING: bitter rant forthcoming*Phones. I cannot be the only one to dislike them. I cannot be the only one who refuses to be enslaved by them. I cannot be the only one to think it is not unnatu..."
Your definitely not the only one. Most everyone I know is fully aware that I almost never answer my cell or check the messages and if it is an emergency and you need to get in touch with me try calling my sister.
I hate the phone even ringing. It grates on my nerves. Only my husband and the kids have our home phone number. If everyone's home, when I answer the home phone, I pick it up and don't say anything or scream profanities into it. Depending on my mood when I answer it. I figure, I don't know you and you're intruding into my home and that's rude. So, I'm rude right back.
niquae wrote: "My room has the cable modem which our phone line is connected to. That's why it's necessary that I have a phone in my room. I turned off the ringer because I hate to hear the phone ringing as well...."My grandfather had one of those flashing light things. I think you can turn the ringer off and just have the light flashing. I think we got it at Radio Shack, but it may have been at one of those home health stores. It wasn't that expensive.
Tai wrote: "If you're like me and purchasing books by the dozens.... NEVER...I repeat NEVER look at the total you spend on books on a given year. Let's just say my jaw drop at the total I spent in 2010 and whi..."I decided that this year I was going to keep track of how much I spend on books. Now I don't have a job, I do get unemployment but that goes to bills. I get financial aid for school and that leaves a huge expendable income. So far, I've added up everything I've purchased and as of today I have spent $238 (give or take a few dollars) on books. I don't see that as so bad since school text books cost be about $350 this semester but I still have the rest of the year to go. I do know that I won't be spending that much on book every month (I just don't have the budget for it). I am still shocked that I spent that much! I know I have an addiction and when I go into a book store I feel like I HAVE to buy something. Especially if they have deals (like Borders right now has the Romance novels buy 4, get 5th free) I've gone to Borders three times and did that. I went today to exchange a book (I thought I bought the first in the series turns out it was the third) and I almost bought 4 again! I think I'm going insane haha. But I tell myself that I do have an addiction and that it could be sooooo much worse. My fiance just laughs at me.
Niquae, I despise talking on the phone. I have to answer 3 people's phones at work (and back up 8 other phones if no one picks them up) including my own at work. I'm not going to pick up a phone unless I'm getting paid to do it. I'll text or email, no problem. But do not expect me to answer the phone outside of work hours, even if you're my BFF. Ain't happening.
Don't you just hate negative people? And don't you just hate when these negative people take out all their ill feelings on you for no damn reason? End rant.
Sashana wrote: "Don't you just hate negative people? And don't you just hate when these negative people take out all their ill feelings on you for no damn reason? End rant."In my family, we call people like that "misery spreaders". The kind of people who are made happy (or less miserable) by ruining other people's day or mood. The way I deal with them is to just smile. The more mean they get, the bigger I smile. Whatever they say, I deliberately misunderstand when I have to respond. If I can't, I just laugh and pretend they're joking and praise their sense of humor. (If I can, I throw a Sweetie, Honey, or Sunshine. I even do this at work because you can't get in trouble for being pleasant to people. What would someone do? Turn you in for being nice?) Drives them crazy!
Shay, I should try that. I just stare at them in silence, usually with an eyebrow raised a hair. When they finally wind down, I stare at them again for several seconds, then walk away without saying anything.
I always just let them know I don't have time for their negatvitiy. When they want to be more positive they can come back. Those who know me don't get offended and those who don't know me usually get pissed, but they eventually realize I don't take that shit from anyone.
Shay, I love that response. I probably would respond more like Sans. I now picture you with a southern accent, having a dazzling smile, and looking like a southern belle while spreading some southern charm. lol
I try to smile but it doesn't always work. Especially in this instance. The best I can do is ignore the person. It just sucks because I try never to disrespect people but obviously I can't be shown the same courtesy.
Can I just state that I hate the rain? I HATE THE RAIN! I'm not one of those prissy girls who normally have a problem with getting wet but in this instance I has my eReader with me while it was raining cats and dogs. Plus I spent $55 last week getting my hair straightened and now Bam! No more Straight hair. The worst thing is I had an umbrella but the damn hurricane-esque wind ripped it apart!
I love the rain! We need to switch places. Come live in west Texas. We have not seen ran in over three months!
Some people just never know when to stop and some never learn! Hopefully she will be one that learns! :)
I want to rant about a headache. I had a killer one this weekend into today. So I haven't been online that much. I hate when they just don't want to go away.
Niquae, I totally understand your frustration. I can't be near anyone when I'm tying to study. Oddly, I need background noise so I usually go to a coffee shop or put my iPod in. But if someone I know is in the room, I get frustrated when they won't stop talking. My dad does that a lot when I'm reading. He'll want to chat even though I'm obviously reading a book. Grrr.Lisa, do you get migraines? Maybe your doctor can give you some preventatives. That's the only way I keep mine down to a minimum. I hope you're feeling better!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRNow that that is out of the way. Work shifted my hours today so instead of working 7-7, I'm working 3-3. This was told to me at 10pm. If you do that math, 10pm gives 4 hours before I have to get up and get ready in order to be at work by 3. When I got the call, I wasn't even at home, so I still had to go home, get ready for bed, and all that jazz. End result? Working a 12 hour shift on 1 hour of sleep. I'm beyond angry right now and hope I can convince my supervisor to force someone else to come in early because I won't be able to last all 12 hours.
I'm sorry to hear that, Jessica. I hope your supervisor can fix it because it will seriously interupt your Goodreads time :)
