Saffy sat in her crate, arms folded as she waited in the uncomfortably small space. "I wish they would let some sunlight in here." she muttered. "Even firelight. These electric lights are horrible."

Sora and Umi sat in a park. Sora was eating ice cream, in her heavy winter coat. Umi watched Sora unblinkingly.

Trin was on her back in her crate, looking at Saffy from an upside down point of view. "I know. I almost wish they'd turn the lights off."

Trin frowned, "I'm sorry, Kal. I'd give you my water, except I don't have any. When was the last time they fed and watered us?"

"I just want different light. Electric light does me no good- my photoreceptors don't react the right way with it."

"I wonder what horrid test they'll make us do next."

Trin nodded, "I'll pretend I know what that means and just stick with being concerned." She smiled at Saffy, then looked at Li. "That's right, I remember that. They gave us one of those small bottles of water, and I swear, they put something in it."

"Kal, you can have my next water ration. I don't need it."

"Looks like they're giving Kal one right now," Trin said, frowning again. "I wish I could help, Kal."

"I'm sick of these bars. Honestly, I could kill the next person to walk in and try to test one of us again."

"Honestly, Kal, I don't need water." Just then, a white coat walked in.

Trin's eyes glimmered with an idea, "Actually.... that's not a bad idea. I could knock one of them out, then whoever's closest could grab the keys and get us out of here!"

Trin clammed up and glared at the white coat.

"I second that motion," Trin said, her violet eyes hard and glaring.

The white coat walked up to Saffy's cage and fumbled with the keys as he looked for the one to her crate. He was one of the newer white coats. He opened the door to her crate and Saffy tentatively stepped out before clobbering him over the head with her wing, knocking him out immediately.

"Nice blow, Saffy!" Trin said, smiling a genuine smile.

She fanned the keys and started unlocking the crates. "Thanks. Now let's get out of here before I pass out."

"Let's," Trin said, stepping out of her crate. "Ah, feels good to actually stand up!"

"Kal, why would you want me to pass out?"

Trin smiled and stretched, "Gosh, I'm sore!"

"Kal, you all right?" Trin asked.

"I think they gave him all the keys…" she handed the keys to Ray.

"Okay," Trin said. "So, any other experiments here? 'Cause if so, we gotta bust 'em out."

An alarm started blaring. "We'll have to find out on our way out of here. The coats are going to come soon."

Trin nodded, "Kal, can you make it out of here?"

"Maybe we should split up. Kal definetly needs to get to water, and the best way to make that happen is to get her out of here."

Trin picked up Kallie, "Dehydration, probably. Your part fish, which makes it worse. Come on, guys, let's go! We can always come back for others."

"Kallie, you need water. And we're running out of time. I say we come back for them, that will give us time to rest and gain our strength back, so we don't get ourselves and others killed."

"Trin, would you take Kal andget out of here? The rest of us will find any others."

Trin looked over at Ray, then the others. "All right. I think there's a lake not too far from here. Meet me there in an hour, or I'm coming back!" She picked up Kallie and saluted, smiling grimly, then ran down the hall and out a door, opening her black wings and soaring towards the lake.

"Soon," Trin said, pouring on the speed. She landed next to the lake and waded out, then laid Kallie in the shallow water.

Trin smiled and hugged her back, "I'm glad you feel better!"

"Hey, Saffy was the one who got us out!" Trin said, smiling. "But thanks!"

"You should stay here. You need to rest and have more exposure to the water. I'll go back and get them."

"Ray, would you like to do the honors?" she said as she walked up to the door Kal had mentioned.

"Depends. Who are you?"

Trin flew back to them and followed them into the room. "Hey. More experiments?"

Saffy unlocked the crates. "Nice to meet you."

"Well, if you have wings, bust 'em out, 'cause we're about to fly out of here. If you don't, speak up, and one of us will help you out."

"Have you enough strength to help others get out?"

"Alright, let's get out then. Who's flying with whom?"

Trin nodded, then turned to Caleb, "Guess I'm helping you. Come on, let's get out of this dump."

Blaze pushed her red hair from her face and looked at the others. "Yeah, let's blow this joint."

Trin smiled at Blaze and grabbed Caleb's hand, running outside and jumping into the air. "I'll show you where Kal is!"

"I guess so. Let's head out." she ran outside, then looked up and stared directly at the sun.

"Saf, you okay?" Trin asked, looking down at Saffy, holding Caleb aloft.

"Who do I go with?" Blaze asked.

She grinned. "Yes, I'm fine. Better than fine, actually." even though the sun could be seen reflected in her eyes, the light was being soaked up.

"Go with Jack!" Trin called down to Blaze, then shifted so Caleb wasn't pulling her down as much.

Blaze looked over at her brother, Jace, "Guess I'm stuck going with you again, Jay-Jay."
"Like I'm thrilled about this, Hot-Stuff." He shot back, using her goofy nickname that he and Blaze's now dead best friend, Ronnie, insisted on calling her.
