Please use this thread to discuss part two, chapter's 13 to 19 of

Flapper: A Madcap Story of Sex, Style, Celebrity, and the Women Who Made America Modern by Joshua Zeitz.

I really liked Part Two. I didn't know much about the actual fashions and where they came from and the advertising. It was interesting to read about all the different people who helped to shape who this new woman was. I really liked the one artwork by Gordon Conway (and who'd've guessed that name was a woman's?).

What is always most amazing to me is how, when certain individuals remain absolutely true to who they are -- no matter how outside the milieu or how outcast from the norm -- they can wind up changing the world single handedly.

I think it must take an enormous ego -- or some indestructible seed of self-confidence -- to sustain their obsessive & passionate goals... it would be impossible to achieve the results without it.
