Balkha | 93 comments I have a large list of to be read books and I really want to get to these books in the coming year. I will most probably open the year with War & Peace which I will be reading as part of a group read in another group and some other books on the side probably because I am constantly reading 2-3 books at the same time :-)

War and Peace will be a considerable task ahead. I too want to read it badly this coming year. But the book I have is a huge tome with yellowed pages and miniscule print which is putting me off

Balkha | 93 comments yah i know exactly what you mean. I already started it last year and read some of it, then got distracted by other books and haven't picked it up since. Am hoping the group read will motivate me to read the entire book though lets see..will let you know how it goes..

Balkha | 93 comments His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman consists of "The Golden Compass"; "The Subtle Knife" & "The Amber Spyglass". The first book was alright apart from that not sure the reason I kept reading the other books except that I am also reading War & Peace and needed something mindless to read on the side.

Balkha | 93 comments One Amazing Thing by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni ..this was my second book by her. I loved "Palace of Illusions" but this book just fell flat. All the characters some how merged into each other and I just could not get involved with any of them. The entire story felt unreal and not in a good way. All in all a disappointing read.
Will begin Lolita now coz it was the runner up book for the group read..yippeee

Balkha | 93 comments A is for Alibi- Hmmm...didn't like it. The killer was predictable and the writing was mediocre.

But somehow am addicted to Kinsey Milhone. Though many of the mysteries in the series are mediocre, I eagerly read about her untidy habits and junk food consumption :-)

Balkha | 93 comments lol...Yah in that sense it is a bit refreshing that the detective is a woman who is not a leggy and glamorous blonde (no offense).

Balkha | 93 comments The Insanity Defense: The Complete Prose by Woody Allen. I did not finish this book so technically I should not list it here but wanted to make a record that at least I attempted reading it... I rarely leave books half unread but short stories are my bane..for some reason I can rarely finish a book with short stories.
